  1. Considering the Rio Tinto boss can't/won't name the union that made the claim, I would take this report with a grain of salt. Having said that I have used my annual leave to deal with having to put a pet to sleep. I do know of people who have used personal (was called sick) leave days as well. I wouldn't expect special leave days though.
  2. Do Kelpies and Border Collies shed much?
  3. Jennifer, in the grain free range there doesn't appear to be large breed adult variety, only a large/giant breed puppy. Are you looking at developing one? I wouldn't want to start a pup off on a food and then have to change.
  4. This is a pure breed dog forum (ie ANKC registered dogs), the American Bulldog isn't a recognised breed in Australia. :)
  5. During winter my dogs are crated inside so have no water from about 10pm to 4am (my husband is an early starter). If it were me, I wouldn't limit water, I would go back and treat him like an eight week old pup, and toilet train from scratch. Meaning no unsupervised time inside until reliable and either waking up during the night or getting up early and taking him out for a pee, putting him back to bed to settle.
  6. For some of us who lives regionally and I have also in remote Australia previously, these sort online courses, forums and online streams have opened up a whole new world. We don't all live in urban areas with easy access to a range of different training approaches. There aren't even any certified dog trainers in my town, just volunteers with good intentions. The course in the OP seems like a nice course for someone to do with their puppy, it's not a thousand dollar dog trainer course!
  7. Just had a look on their website, I'm on a mobile and it's not mobile friendly so I could have missed it but it doesn't tell you bag sizes or where to buy? I would like to try this with my dog but at $120 a bag, I would prefer to try a smaller bag first! Where did you buy it, Yonjuro?
  8. I think the ad is quite striking. If I was flipping through a magazine, it would certainly catch my eye, which is really the whole point. Good on her for being an advocate for something she believes in.
  9. I use this one. Sorry I am not sure what grade of paper it has, I am still using the ones it came with. Doberdawn has the grade she uses though on her website. Mine are fine with the sound, one just hates having the dremel used on her front paws, we are working on it though. http://www.dremel.com/en-au/tools/pages/ToolDetail.aspx?pid=761-03
  10. A freight forwarder like priceusa.com.au may be an option. Shipito.com is another.
  11. It is raining here today and we are having a lazy day in, dogs have been asleep in their crates (door open) since about 8am, it is now 315pm here, they will start stirring at about 430pm when they think they should get dinner. If I had the door closed, not sure how it would be any different?
  12. My dogs sleep inside in their crates in winter, outside in summer but I use them for a variety of reason. Feeding, travelling, training and recovery. I had never used a crate before I got these two but will use them from now on regardless of what or how many dogs I have.
  13. I assess my dogs by their recovery. If they start becoming a bit stiff and sore after a jog, I cut back to taking them for a walk.
  14. Morons like that are best dealt with by ignoring them if you can. People who are walking their dogs are prone to crossing the road when I am walking with mine, which is fine because if they don't, I do. People who don't have dogs when we are out and about tend to just ignore the mastiff x, which is fine by her as she ignores them. The SBT, well, she wants to go for a look when we walk pass them but I won't let her because I am mean
  15. You do realise there isn't much use for a boat in Kalgoorlie? We travelled Victoria to Kalgoorlie, with a JRTx, two kids and no air conditioning!! We had the dog on a lead at all times. But none of this helpful to you, I suppose. Good luck with your trip.
  16. Gee, I didn't realise some dogs got such a bad reaction to bee stings! I have a dog that often chases and catches bees so has been stung a few times with no reaction at all. My other dog has never been bitten as far as I know. Knowing her though she will get full blown reaction
  17. Had a look at the Mars website and surprised to find how many brands they have. I would say that pet food is actually their primary market if you go by a brand name count.
  18. I have one that likes to pee on the footpath, won't go on the grass or dirt next to the footpath. Just squats and starts peeing, not too amusing for the people walking near us. I now take a bottle of water with me so that I can wash it away!
  19. Just awful. You have to wonder about what sort of person can do this
  20. I am sorry for your loss. There is something wrong with a country when it treats it's native animals this way.
  21. The article comes across, to me anyway, as don't spend your money on surgery, spend your money on my cure (plugging his upcoming course). Nothing wrong with that I suppose but the reader needs to keep this in mind. My JRT x (deceased) had cruciate issues and didn't need surgery, just management as recommended by the vet. My mastiff x has had two TPLO surgeries. First one I tried the conservative management pathway but after three months she still couldn't put her full weight on the leg, second leg, I just went straight to surgery. Both my dogs ruptured their cruciates while sprinting. They haven't just developed. Possibly it was genetic, who would know? Like most things in this world, individual cases should be treated differently.
  22. I wouldn't give her anything that she considers of high value until the behavourist assessed her.
  23. Well, I feel a bit ripped to be honest. I paid $4500 for a 35kg dog and they paid $5000 for a 1000kg bull
  24. I don't think I could cope with another pet there as I was so distraught when having to put my old boy to sleep. I had about half an hour in the car with him where I just sobbed. We then took him home for the others to see, we left him out for about half an hour for them. They just sniffed him and then didn't bother with him. I am glad that I did let them see him though, even it was to satisfy myself that they knew.
  25. They wouldn't have a hope in hell of getting any money out of the dog owners, if the dog owners chose not to pay up.
