  1. Oh Trifecta I'm so glad Sophie's story helped you on your journey with Rogan. It means a lot to me to know that my darling girl and her story were a comfort to someone travelling the same path. Posting about Sophie was my outlet when I was dealing with her mandibular osteosarcoma. I had a lot of support from people in that thread and it helped me through a difficult time. Thank you again.

    Ebony

Sorry Tess, Rest In Peace Ebony.
  3. Enzyplex is pricey Jules, if I recall it's around $90-100 a tub. A tub for my Cavalier lasts for at least a year because you use very little at each meal. It's well worth the money. Do a search on the net and see who's selling for the best price. Remember to factor in the postage costs. My pancreatitis dog has never had any problems for 3 years since she's been on Enzyplex and she can eat virtually anything now, though I do stick with low fat food for her. She is fed mostly raw and at the moment I'm feeding her raw roo and some cooked turkey mince. I've just come home after being in hospital for 10 days and while I was away she was fed Canidae Platinum dry food which has a fairly low fat content and she had no issues at all. This of course is dog food. Not sure about cat food.
  4. I have a pancreatitis dog too. She gets Enzyplex enzymes with her meals and has no problems at all. For treats I use pieces of cooked chicken breast.
  5. Disappointing that Zymox is not available in Australia afterall. There has been a hitch with customs on one occasion, they did withold the Zymox. I called them and explained the situation and why I needed it and they sent it on to me. This took about a month. Usually it arrives from USA in about 12 days from my order. I buy it on Ebay. Edited to add: I note on the Aussie site link they charge $36.50 for shipping. I pay the Ebay USA supplier $10.99 shipping costs. The product itself is more expensive but overall it amounts to a saving of $13.42 to buy it on Ebay.

    Atlas

I'm so sorry for your loss of Atlas Teebs.
  7. I'm so sorry Trifecta. I also lost my beloved Rottweiler to mandibular osteosarcoma. I'm so very sorry you lost your boy.
  8. I've been using Zymox for my Cavaliers yeasty ears. It works a charm. I had no idea it was available in Australia and have been having it sent over from USA. Thanks for the Aussie link.
  9. I have two Cavaliers and in reference to the teeth/dentition issue, my boy is now 8 yr + 2 months old old and my girl is 7yo. Neither Cavalier has ever needed a dental. Their teeth are checked every six months in the course of their health check and all teeth are in perfect condition. No misalignment. Both my dogs are from registered breeders. My boy had never had a sick day until he ruptured a disk in his spine at 5yr +7 months old. He had surgery and recovered perfectly. He was diagnosed with a grade 1 murmur soon after his spinal surgery and was checked 3 weeks ago, still grade one at present. My 7yo girl is deaf but has not had any other health problems that were not due to outside influences i.e. obstruction surgery due to eating fruit stones and one attack of pancreatitis 3 years ago due to a visiting child feeding the dog cheescake. No further pancreatitis issues. I've had less health problems with my Cavaliers than I had with my beloved dog of a different breed who I lost to cancer at 7yo. She was from a registered breeder and had joint issues well prior to the cancer that took her.
  10. Thanks for thinking of me Inspector Rex. All is well, I've just been doing stuff. I'll shoot you an email tomorrow night. About to give the dogs their goats milk/yoghurt nightcap and I'm off to bed.
  11. She's a very pretty girl. She looks so intelligent and attentive.
  12. That is the prime site for flea bites. Your dog probably has a flea bite allergy. You need to take him to a vet and put him on a monthly flea preventative. Poor dog must be very uncomfortable. Sure vets are expensive but we take on the responsibility to provide vet care when we choose to take on ownership of an animal.
  13. Take a specimen of his urine to the vet. He probably has a urinary tract infection.
  14. The vet messed around with my old rescue girl, Faith's indolent ulcer for 5 weeks, to no avail. He eventually put her under a general anaesthetic for grid keratotomy which failed. He then suggested stitching her eye closed for a couple of weeks but I didn't like that idea because we wouldn't be able see if any healing was taking place, so he sent me off to a canine eye specialist. The vets bill came to around $1700. Probably because we were having twice weekly consults with flourescein tests each time plus the consult fees. The specialist said he could fix Faith's ulcer and she wouldn't need a general anaesthetic. He said rather than close her eye he would insert a contact lens to protect the eye. The following day Faith had a corneal debridement and second grid keratotomy, contact lens was duly inserted. He carried out the procedure with only anaesthetic eye drops. Faith was a very calm accepting dog who stayed perfectly still while he worked on her eye. 8 days later at post op check up her ulcer had healed perfectly. It may be worth asking your specialist if Maui can have a contact lens instead of stitching her eye closed. The specialsts bill came to under $800 including the first visit and the post op check.
  15. My little Cavalier boy had a noisy stomach last night. I took him onto my bed so I could monitor him during the night.
  16. Sorry Erny, I can't remember the dosage. I documented all the supplements I used but not the dosage rates but it would have been calculated going by her weight Thanks for your kind thoughts. I still miss Sophie every day.
  17. My Cavaliers had a dental check last week. Vet said their teeth are perfect. My boy is 8yo and my girl will be 7yo in a couple of weeks. They have never needed a vet dental. I now give them ProDen Plaqueoff and it's evidently working well.
  18. I have my doubts since this thread is 3 years old.
  19. Though we didn't have the Baer test done, reason being there's no doubt she's stone deaf. The vet believes her condition is congenital. I'm not a breeder so there was no reason, considering she's stone deaf for me to have the testing done to assess her level of hearing loss. There sure is nothing wrong with her eyesight. She'll be 7yo in a few weeks and her vision is as sharp as it ever was. She is a quiet dog. The only time she ever barks is when she sees a bird sitting on her fence. My other dog also a quiet dog(same breed)is her ears. Whatever he does, she does.
  20. My dog was a Seratos Anka pup. My girl was from her second litter. I lost contact with Seratos Anka's registered owner some years ago. I heard she was studying opera overseas. Not sure if that's accurate information but the person who told me is reliable. Some time back I also tried to contact her but to no avail. Sorry I'm not much help to you.
  21. My Rottie was also taking Transfer Factor. She outlived her cancer prognosis by 11 months but she was taking a number of supplements so I don't know what, if any, part the Transfer Factor played. The vet was happy when he saw Transfer Factor on my list of supplements Sophie was taking. He said it was an excellent supplement.
  22. I have a deaf Cavalier. There's no white on her ears or anywhere else on her body, she's black and tan. It really isn't too difficult to train a deaf dog. I find my girl responds well to hand signals. However I would speak to the breeder as everyone has suggested. Hopefully you bought your pup from an ethical breeder who will be happy to discuss the matter with you or suggest you return the puppy. My girl was not deaf when I got her as a pup, it was something that happened when she was about 2yo.
  23. I can not see a problem with the product (of course I can't guarantee it) if you are getting it for personal use and it is not for re sale. I don't see why there should be any problems either but people have had a single product seized by over zealous customs officers. Why I don't get is even though it's now available in Australia the price here is prohibitive. They are charging as much for a 40gm container as we pay for 180gm from the UK.
  24. I ordered another 180grm on 2nd May. I hope customs doesn't seize it. It got through ok last time but we're starting to run a bit low here too so though I would take the risk and order from the same supplier.
