She is in pain with a UTI and can't help it. Hopefully the meds will kick in by tomorrow, otherwise ask the vet for a different antibiotic because there should have been some improvement by now.

Mita I am so sorry for your loss of Gracie. R.I.P. Gracie.

I've been using Sentinel Spectrum since it came on the market and before that, Sentinel (before it became spectrum). I've never seen a flea on any of my dogs. Thanks for the link to that website. Good prices and no delivery fees. Sounds good

TB I had a girl who had a couple of UTI's and I started her on Cranberry tablets. Bio Organics have a 10,000mg plus acidophilus tablets..or they are more like caplets than tablets. She's never had another UTI since I put her on these and I now give them to all the girls as a preventative.

No Fear5100 you need to take your dog to the vets for advice and a general check up. Don't waste your money on flea collars, they don't work and many dog are allergic to them. Fleas are everywhere, including Abbotsford. A product such as Sentinel Spectrum is effective against all worms, heartworm and is a flea contraceptive so fleas can't breed.

I was at the Glen Waverley store on Saturday and they had a few small bags of Eagle Pack but no Ziwi Peak. -

My Baby Has Been Diagnosed With Syringomyeila

I have 2 CKCS and live in dread of this disease. My two seem to be ok. I'm so sorry that your dog has this and hope it's not a severe case. I've only read about it and it's certainly scary. Poor little Chanel. What treatment has your vet suggested? I wish you the best with her and hope you will keep us updated. -
I disagree with removing a dogs food once you've given it to them. That proves to the dog that you can't be trusted not to steal its food. Mydogs eat in peace. I don't think it's ever occurred to them that we will take their food away. None of them object if we are right next to them or touch them while they are eating.

Sorry to hear about Jess. Godspeed sweet girl.

Perhaps you can cook some Lennards pet mince and then feel through it with your fingers. You'll find that the bone bits are very hard and quite sharp. They could do some damage to the intestines. I wouldn't take the risk.
-
Feed the Lennards mince raw with vegies etc., It's not for cooking because it contains bones and they can cause problems if fed to the dog cooked.

I can't agree with the statement that you will be paying money for nothing. If there is a problem you can deal with it in the early stages. If there is no problem then the diagnosis is priceless :p Can't put a value on peace of mind

I would have the vet check for cruciate ligament problems.

Is she locked inside for 8 hours a day every day? She won't be able to hold it that long. Are you able to have someone come in and let her out to toilet during the day when you are gone for 8 hours? The part about the 'lots of little wees' would see me taking a sample of her urine to the vet to check for a UTI.

Puppy Bleeding From Anal Passage
cavNrott replied to doggie_lover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
At the risk of being called rude along with the others, the story does not add up at all. If the vet wanted a urine sample then they would have no problem in getting one. Vets don't wait for the pup to 'go' they would take the sample directly from the bladder. Secondly, if the pup was pooping blood then they would want a sample of the faeces containing the blood, not a urine sample.. unless of course the pup was passing blood in it's urine as well as from the bowel, in which case this pup was probably gravely ill. Thirdly, if in the opinion of the vet the puppy had an infection then they would prescribe appropriate medication. They would not wait for three weeks to see if the infection had cleared and take the risk that the infection would kill a young puppy. Doggie Lover, many of the people on this forum are very knowledgeable about dog health and veterinary procedures that normally take place with common health problems. To call people rude when they are simply trying to assist you is rudeness in itself. efs -
Puppy Bleeding From Anal Passage
cavNrott replied to doggie_lover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A healthy puppy does not have a number of bowel motions in quick succession that contain all blood. There is something very wrong with this puppy and PLEASE take her to an emergency vet if your regular vet is closed. This is not something to be diagnosed over the internet. This pup requires URGENT vet attention. -
I apologise, I didn't intend any offence in my comment. I have edited it out of my post.

How could you 'forget' to give your dog his dinner Miine are on a raw diet too. It's all a matter of getting the balance right so they enjoy the vegies in their meal. I think if I tried to feed blended vegies only with no meat content that my dogs wouldn't be too keen either. Agreed Showdog Our dogs are domesticated not living in the wild. I wonder how many of the proponents of fasting a dog fast themselves for a day. I just can't see the benefit in letting a domesticated dog go hungry. edited to remove a comment

All my dogs (2 Rottweilers and 2 Cavaliers) live inside the house. None are crated though the Cavaliers have crates with doors always left open. No damage has been caused inside the house by the dogs because they have always been loose in the house and know the rules. We are in Melbourne and it's too cold outside at night for the dogs. That plus I like having them around where I am. They sleep in my bedroom except for my old rescue girl who prefers to sleep on the couch. Why do you want to put your dog outside at night?

Dog Grooming Clippers What Do You Recommend
cavNrott replied to oscamia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oh where are you in Melbourne BC? The reason I groom my Cav myself is that the two groomers I've been to want to clip my Cavs. Hence I've been grooming them myself but would love to go to a groomer who understands that Cavs should not be clipped. I've been using the thinning shears but I'm not very good at it. I would love to see my dogs with a really professional groom. Please tell me where you are and hopefully you won't be too far away. -
Dog Grooming Clippers What Do You Recommend
cavNrott replied to oscamia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Do you mean good groomers would NOT clip a cavies coat? I have taken my boy to a groomer only twice and asked that she trim with scissors - no clipping. I groom them both myself now and would never use clippers on them. -
Why not have this pup inside with you when you are home. It seems she needs your company rather than being outside 23 hours a day. It also sounds as though she requires more exercise. She is probably chewing due to teething and perhaps some boredom.

Optimum is probably one of the better supermarket brands but it's not a good quality diet. I would suggest you feed Eagle Pack, Nutrience or Royal Canin. They are all premium or super premium foods. efs

Stevie's Lump Has Been Diagnosed
cavNrott replied to Katdogs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't think they can do a biopsy without a GA. A needle aspiration doesn't need anaesthesia but my old dog was anaesthetised for a biopsy.
