  1. Excellent posts - my takeaway is that in future for my tenants, to ask for references to dog clubs / dog experience and be able to determine how savvy they are as dog owners... "we've always had dogs" is more a red flag than a comfort. As a renter, I moved with references from the previous agents and landlords which always got me past the first hurdle, even past the agents who for whatever reason was not fazed by the adorableness of Panto's face
  2. I forgot I had these - free to rescue, pick up city fringe, Sydney. Will give to rescue resource or a country pound unless any takers here, especially the prescription diet which may be of use for a special needs. 8 cans - black hawk grain free chicken - esp 2018 12 cans hills prescription diet u/d - exp 11/16 12 cans hills science diet light - exp 11/16 5 cans hills science diet light - exp 3/16 (I don't know if others have experience using 'out of date' cans - was going to throw out but if they can be of use happy for someone else to make the call) eta pics Hi,
  3. Oh PM, so very sorry for your loss, my heart breaks too. I love that photo in your avatar Run free Perry
  4. So sorry for your loss FM, I've only just seen this. Sending big hugs. Run free beautiful boy
  5. Only now in hindsight reading your post, have I realised that they have been paid more of my money, other than my current landlord, than any other person or institution for services/products provided. And I feel good about every experience I've had with them throughout despite the heartache associated the reason for being there and the sting of paying at the time. It's been awhile now but they're bl00dy awesome.
  6. Oh Boronia, I've only just seen your lovely tribute and that dear Mac had departed too. I'm so very sorry.
  7. Oh MW, I am so very sorry for your loss! I have only just seen this. Biggest of hugs and positivity your way run free dear Fleming
  8. So very sorry for your loss, and a celebration of the wonderful life he had with you, so loved and cared for. In my thoughts. Run free, good boy
  9. That's a good point there PK. I've never seen that level of 'obsession' in him, whilst he loves it, once it's turned off he will happily interact back with people and walk outside and refocus. He's only young and if there's any chance it could go down that path they would put a stop to it - they may not be aware of the condition so I will pass that article onto them. For country folk, they're incredibly tuned to his welfare and give him a lot of priority, they'll certainly be interested in it. Thanks for sharing! Sorry, I didn't mean to be callous about Mal's condition - it's great to hear you have it under control.
  10. It is awful to see the severe anxiety. We have had good success with clomicalm, after trying xanax with no good results, plus other adjuncts too (DAP, thundershirt, music). I also allow sleeping in the bedroom when it is a bad thunder night. In a much better place now, but took a bit of trial and error, and I'm glad that the medications have helped. One day we might get off them. It is. There was one which just dulled her faculties but I could still see fear in her eyes and I just held her. I can't remember what that one was now, but we did find one which just made her sleepy rather than dull. It really is plain horrible to see them in such a state of fear. Molly is so bad she associates heavy rain with thunder so that sets her off. We started giving her a beta blocker to stop a heart attack after a consult with a veterinary behaviourist. And because we are rural, a farmer shooting also triggers a strong fear response. I know what you mean about the heavy rain - we experienced the same here. But actually on the meds the heavy rain anxiety has almost gone completely! This is why I wish we had started the meds sooner rather than later - it was like it started a dissociation with the cause of the fear and it wouldn't exacibate on itself! PK - that's hilarious! We have good friends with a BC who chases light on a wall - they have this amazing wine cellar with a disco ball and when we go down there he barks for it to be turned on so he can play chasies with the pretty lights!
  11. For the one that didn't work? It sounds like the same thing but I don't remember the brand/drug name, it was too long ago now.

  13. I didn't know that about the static! At the end of the day my only regret is not learning to medicate her earlier so I got the dosage/medication right sooner before the phobia got worse. I was conditioned to start stomping when I saw lightning to disguise the sound of thunder and play games with her - at least until I could reach the stereo to turn it up! I realised how conditioned I was when I would be in the supermarket and started stomping when I saw lightning/heard thunder... That's what I use with Malcolm and it does seem to help a little. My parents are also using one of the puppy albums for their puppy. In that case there seems to be a fair bit of classical conditioning involved... pun not intended but awesome all the same. :D It was initially played when the puppy was tired and relaxed and sleepy and now when it goes on it's the signal to relax. This is so awesome, I love it. Thanks for the link! US and Canada. It hasn't even been released yet!
  14. I giggled at the music idea and thought I might just turn it off - but the best way we distracted Panto from fireworks/thunder was to turn the tv/music on loud to drown out external noise... so maybe there is something in that? I couldn't turn the sound on to listen, but the idea of them explaining it is making me cringe. Does anyone have a similar crate here in Australia? I am considering making one that is similar to this and painted to suit our decor.
  15. Right!? I think with the proper training, it's an assistance tool, not a fixer. My girl's fireworks phobia was so bad drugs and cuddles was the only solution at the end of the day. But if we'd had something to help in earlier days, I wonder if it would have got as bad?
  16. It's not a fix-all, but how fabulous are the considerations?? https://www.kickstar...anxiety-dog-den (I did consider general for this post, and may request a move later, but popping it in here for now).
  17. Crate training, when done right, is for the benefit of the dog and the added benefits are for the humans. It's their safe place and sanctuary, not a 'cage' or place of convenience like locking them up in the laundry. Plenty of great literature and crate training threads in this forum, highly encourage you to read some of it. It will be highly beneficial when you're having people come over and you're wrangling a child (or two or cooking while the doorbell rings....) etc etc. It's not the be all and end all to every problem, but have a good read about it before you make a final decision.
  18. Whilst amazing news for rescue, a concern certainly for other pets travelling with jetpets. There is only documentation for international travel on their website regarding vet checks and certification. Just because we don't see it, doesn't mean it's not being done though - rescue have been using jetpets already, the same way non rescue dogs and pups have been, we just don't hear about the documentation required.
  19. I used to pull apart inner health plus tablets and sprinkle directly over food. If it's quite bad - and you have the space to allow a little mess, try yoghurt directly onto the skin. It's cooling and soothing if from the fridge, and the probiotics get straight to work. Alternately, sprinkle some inner health plus onto a lotion that you can rub on her skin/paws.
  20. Darn! Didn't know you would be there, sorry to have missed you! Who did you bring with you? Demi wasn't with you was she - she is still on my desktop wallpaper with my panto  I looked that up online. Labrador x Poodle. I think Tamaruke may be the kennel name. I stopped to talk to them for a bit, they've been testing and breeding for over 10yrs and sound quite responsible, they didn't like the oodle nickname that has become common so really using the kennel name to refer to them. The dogs at the stand were trained therapy dogs and one of them was in training to be placed with a family with a child with autism once training was complete. Yes you were, tried to swing by to say hi again but you were 2 deep in people waiting to talk to you - lovely meeting you! ]Good to see you huski, wish I could have come back on Sunday to meet Blaze!

  22. Just on this - I don't think it's a bad thing, I think it means less confusion, with so many rescues that pop up then disappear, at least the general public have something to go to, to adopt a rescue. Friends/colleagues who have adopted a rescue have said they found their dog via PR, they wouldn't have known where to look otherwise, short of going to the pound and taking pot luck at a dog when they don't know enough about choosing the right dog for them. Unless of course, I've got this totally wrong and you meant that the general public might be confused that PR is the rescue organisation themselves...
  23. Aren't football fields treated with chemicals and pesticides, which wouldn't be good for doggy paws anyways? Also, unfortunately not every dog owner picks up their poop - club members have a higher chance that they do etc, but unfortunately they get the blame for every other joe that uses the park/fields. Also, as someone who utilises football fields for sport, and pay high club levies, as well as being a responsible dog owner, I would prefer separate green spaces. I think this is difficult in areas where green spaces are very limited though.
  24. So sorry Jules May memories of Renae wag in your heart for a long time to come.
  25. Nope - I politely disagree - Once it's open and air is circulating it is more than plausible it will go off faster - similar to UHT milk - its fine and stable to sit there - but should be used within 7 days of opening. I've often thought the same thing. This one dodgy face book article backed me up ;) Actually very true - you never know what sort of contaminants are floating around the consumer's home environment, they could live in a filthy state and expect shelf life despite poor storing conditions. There should be a date stamped on all bags sold legitimately though.
