  1. Has anyone heard of companions for life? I haven't heard of them before.
  2. Thanks everyone, all great options! I'm going to do my best to guide them through the adopting through rescue process, there can be a lot of questions and considerations! dogmad, how old is this family's BC? Sad situation not being able to find rental accom.
  3. Thanks Kirty, might not hurt for him to give them a call and discuss.
  4. A colleague and his wife have put a lot of thought and consideration into the right time to add a four legged member into their family and have decided now is the right time (and by now, they're not in a hurry). They want to rescue, though his wife does have her heart set on a young border collie. He has previously owned a working dog type (kelpie x). They have a baby and a fair few dog savvy friends (a couple whom I know). He came to me months ago to ask for how to get a rescue and has diligently had a look at some websites and asked some questions (I had sent him AWDRI, coolie rescue and petrescue). Whilst not bound by what I am going to send him, I thought I'd put the feelers out there to see what's in foster care, or if there might be any litters in care at the moment. Ideal would be a BC pup / young one, but I think they'll be wanting a dog under 1 y.o. Other links / material I can send them to consider as new fur-kid parents would be welcome too. Thanks in advance!
  5. http://www.viralnova.com/guide-dog/ The look in this gorgeous dog's eyes. Just... Bless. More than $27k has been raise according to the link in the article...
  6. if resuce up there doesn't work out, I have a friend from sydney here who is spending christmas up in coffs, I can ask if she will be happy to transport it to sydney for any sydney rescue to pick up from me. I won't ask her unless you find a confirmed taker that's happy to collect from a sydney location though. Hope Happy Paws works out though! Nice to keep it local :)
  7. hmm, given that it's ABC news (rather than the tele or SMH), it could literally have been what the RSPCA officer said, who could have been exaggerating a bit maybe?... either way, glad the poor little poppets have a better chance at life now, well done magistrate Daly. Hope they can enforce this. the before and after photos from the article: (what a cutie!!)
  8. Oh Rach so sorry for your loss, gentle hugs to you and the pack. Rip Zeuss

  11. oh how heartbreaking for the family Hope all goes well. Will spread the word with some cat friends.
  12. Asking a lot of questions then bombarding them with information (that shows they obviously didn't know) can make them quite defensive and close off... the difficulty in successfully carrying this off is making sure they still feel like they're on top, or, somehow being able to let them lean towards wanting to learn from you... the 'gosh I couldn't do it to my dog' etc whithout any tones suggesting she is intending on being cruel to hers, might be a good approach. Just want to say good on you for wanting to give it a go anyhow. You never know, if it does work (or even if it doesn't), what you begin here might down the track help this person stop someone else in her position... "you know, I used to want to breed mine too til someone in puppy class said..." etc.
  13. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2013/11/texas-school-principal-charged-after-dogs-leg-rots-and-falls-off/ Texas School Principal Charged After Dog’s Leg Rots and Falls Off [/url]By Tina Chen Nov 6, 2013 3:41pmThe principal of a private school in Houston claims it is “unfair” that she is being charged with animal cruelty after her three small dogs were found to be in deplorable condition, including one dog whose injured leg appears to have rotted and fallen off. Rosa Martinez, 57, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of animal cruelty after she took the dogs to Houston’s Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care. A veterinarian at the center alerted police, according to court documents. KTRK/ABC News The worst off of the animals was a female brown and tan Maltese and poodle mix named Rainy, which had only two legs. Court documents say that Rainy was in a malnourished state and her left paw had exposed bones. The report also said that Rainy’s right rear leg appears to have rotted off after an injury had exposed about three inches of bone and it went untreated. A foul odor emanated from where the leg had been, the report said. It was unclear what had happened to the dog’s fourth leg. In addition, the dog had thinning hair and hair loss over her mid to lower back, the court document stated. Another white Maltese and poodle mix male was found suffering from a chronic ear infection and chronic staph infection, while a third dog was found severely underweight and suffering from sores, the report said. Martinez told Police Officer Suzanne Hollifield that she had “over-committed herself to work and non-profit organizations.” She had “seen the dog limping but did not check on it,” she told the officer, according to the court document. The officer also wrote in her report, “Defendant’s son had seen the dog on October 11, 2013 and told Defendant he could see the dog’s bone and that she needed to do something with the dog.” Martinez maintains she didn’t know what happened to the dog, but surrendered the animals because “she was upset and realized she could not care for the dogs.” Martinez could not be reached for comment by ABC News, but she defended herself to ABC News’ Houston affiliate KTRK, “It appears to be an accident that I was not aware of. I tried to make it right,” she said. Courtesy Harris County Sheriff's Office “It really upsets me,” Martinez said. “I know you have to have advocates to protect them. In my case, it’s not fair. I didn’t do anything wrong.” The three dogs have since been released to Red Collar Rescue to obtain additional treatment. Martinez posted $3,000 bond. Martinez’s current employment status could not be confirmed by Houston’s Tenney private school
  14. If you have a good neighbourly relationship already, this is great advice. I have given longstanding and reliable neighbours my phone number and introduced them to my dog so that they know to call me if she's barking out of character (which they may notice as annoying) or if we have a visiting dog that we're sitting for, in case they turn out to be a day barker whilst we're out. Cheap wireless camera - a colleague has this set up and I've seen it work. She logs into the IP address via her iphone. http://www.kogan.com/au/shop/cameras/ip-cameras-webcams/?gclid=CNufqqGOwroCFYchpQodFmIAbA

  18. I didn't see the puppies but someone had commented the previous day there were more, so where did the others go? And that he was transporting them in a wheelie bin. The adult dogs seemed in good condition, I only pass them walking. I'll try post some of the comments, I just found them because I realised I didn't close the page from yesterday. (Can anyone else see the comments on the link?) eta: It's Martin Place and Elizabeth st, just outside channel 7 by the looks of it?
  19. http://www.dailytele...2-1226741292586 Walked past this guy in the city this morning walking the two dogs. Someone sent me this article yesterday which had had some interesting comments, not sure if they can be found again though...
  20. Says there are references available!? I wonder if the team at Stayme would be curious?? Also, saying she doesnt have any pets probably doesn't mean she doesn't have any, it could just be "they'll be rehomed" to make the move back to NSW?
