Doggy Treats For Lucky's 1st Birthday!
BC Crazy replied to k9angel's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Great job K9 Angel I bet the clients were wrapped, as they should be. Congrats on your first of hopefully many doggy catering jobs -
Totally agree Steve.. Also agree with a point made in a previous post. Desexing isn't a "cure" or quick fix for any behavourial problems your dog may have.

Wobbley, I think you confirm my thought's with Stella's issues being genetic. Thanks for the training compliments. Nice to hear once in a while :) I am trying as hard as I can. Giving her 110%. Thats all I can do. Just want to make her life as peaceful as I can :)

Steve, yes some quirks or less important behaviour's are probably not noted. Pers, from what Stella's breeder did tell me after buying her is that Stel's mum only had the one litter, which was hers & then she was neutered as she was a terrible mum in as much as she wasn't interested in nursing her puppies at all. So the breeder had to feed them every 2 hours. When I visited Stella before purchasing her she wasn't in her natural enviroment, at home. She was at a show. I wanted to see what she was like out & about for that very reason. She was calm then & happy/confident weird isn't it?

Groomers, What Do You Do About Cracked Hands.
BC Crazy replied to pesh's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I find Winter time the worst for my hands as well. Summer is the worst for my feet as I wear thongs a lot & they are a no no if you don't want cracked heels. -
That is really interesting Steve. What bizarre behaviour!!! Definitely genetic too. I did forget this but my girl's mum is a toy carrier & does carry a toy in her mouth most of the time but she at no time does she suck on it as if she is nursing like Stella does. I don't know if Stella just mimicked this behaviour some what from her mum or not.

God MRB, you cover a lot of ground !!! Have been to Riverwood Downs, won't be going back. Not a fan of that place. Lots of people think it is great but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Sonny loved it though. He pretty much swam the whole time we where there in the river as it was extremely hot when we went. We only live about 1 hour away if that. Yes & I agree regarding Stella & working on the outskirts of a dog park as I was thinking when I am recovered from my surgery I was going to take her to obedience training but not to compete. Just to lurk on the sidelines & let her soak up the atmosphere at first, then gradually incorporate some simple training exercises. She how she goes.

Hmmm yes I see Santo66. That makes sense to me. So if the dog is genetically 'sound' he would of bounced back so to speak from his seat fall & regained his confidence IYO.

This is such an interesting thread. I have a very curly question for anyone who is interested regarding this very issue. Genetic or not genetic??? I have often wondered what happened to my girl to cause her to be so reactive. Is it genetic? Did something happen upset her as a youngster? Both her parents show NO signs of anxious behaviour. My boy has the very same lines up until the very last mating, Stella's mum is different. Sonny has a beautiful temp.I went to see Stella at 8 weeks with several of her litter mates at a show. None of them have any anxiety issues . Stella showed no signs of anxiety etc. Just one very happy, confident puppy. When I brought her home at 11 weeks it was a very different story She was a fierce resource guarder. Showed sign's of this & anxiety immediately. Some of these traits I have been able to train out of her, ie resource guarding, others by giving her confidence, training & meds but she will always be fragile. She has carried a soft toy in her mouth from day one, all the time & sucks on it when she is tired or her anxiety levels get too much for her. She is just VERY different. So, is this genetic, to my knowledge NO. I have had lengthy discussions with her breeder & her ancestors breeders down both sides of her lines, came up with nothing. So she is a bit of a mystery. Could it be that something frightened her so badly in those 3 week's between the time I visited her to the time I took her home, that she never recovered? Or is it that she is just one of those pup's, the odd one out in her litter. If that be the case then why did she not show signs of this when I spent hours with her on my visit? By NO means am I intentionally taking over or side tracking this tread. I just thought my case could open yet another side to this whole genetic/ environmental discussion.

CBDog, Yes it is a shame we don't live closer. Sonny loves parties.... he sounds very much like Reg though, as long as their is a ball or a stick Sonny is a very happy chappy LOL. His life is just one big party. We make sure we have fun here every single day. Birthday or not. Time goes by so quickly. Sonny is 5 today & it just seems like yesterday I went to pick my very cute little panda bear from his breeder. I too wanted a clone of Sonny for my 2nd dog. I got the exact opposite, giggle. Stella is Sonny's BFF though & she has taught me tonnes so I wouldn't change a thing :)

I love the name Reg too Stans mum. It was my late Granddad's name who I loved dearly. I have a Happy plant in my kitchen called Reg in his honour as he was always a happy guy. He loved his beer, maybe thats why he was so "happy" LOL. Everybody loved him :)

Thanks for links Persphone. Will have a read when I get a chance tomorrow :)

I'm surprised following this thread at the negitive responses to desexing at 6 months of age. I have owned entire BC's, both male & female with no trouble, humping etc maybe I was just lucky. I had a rescue boy that I had for almost 15 years. He was entire when I got him at 16 months old. I had him desexed at 5 as he went girl chasing twice in as many days. I had a man phone me to say he had Redman in his b.yard as he had been "visiting" his bc girl that was in season 5 km's away. So it really depends on the dog. As I said with my 2 guys that I have now I had to desex them as per agreement. Both are from very experienced breeders so I don't know why they would say it was ok to desex at 6 months if it wasn't. Same with my Vet really. My 2 look fine to me. Maybe I'm missing something...

Oh Staffyluv, I have just caught the end of this thread. I must have missed it whilst in hospital. I'm so sorry to hear Zig has been so crook. We have all paws crossed here for a promising outcome to Ziggy's turns. Thoughts are with you both of you at this stressful time

Lovely to see Reggie again It's been a while but he is looking more handsome than ever. Happy Birthday boy ! sounds like your mum has spoilt you rotten. Beautiful collar & lead etc. & an organised play date to look forward too. Even cup cakes to munch on. You are birthdaying with the best as my beautiful Sonny turns 5 tomorrow. Don't ask me where that time has gone. Thats why I never waste a moment with my 2. Enjoy Reggie ! :)

There is NO way I could bring myself to view the video.... How could anyone inflict such atrocities to a totally defenceless dog is way beyond my comprehension. Also sickening me to the core is the fact that these poor, sick dogs are being left, suffering to die & not euthanised in the name of religion... Total lack of empathy & compassion. Do these dog traders think these animals are devoid of any feelings. That they do not feel pain/hunger/sadness/abandonment/cold... Such a pathetically sad example of the human race... All in the name of making the eternal $$$...

I had both my male & female Border Collie desexed at 6 months. They were both brought on limited reg. so had to be desexed. I discussed the most suitable to do this as I too was concerned with any negitive impact it could have on their physical maturity. Both breeders of my dogs & my Vet of almost 20 years agree that 6 months of age is perfect. Apparently there is no benefits waiting till after Stella had her first season or Sonny till after his body had matured completely, say 13 or 14 months of age. So I followed their experienced advice & both my guys have physically matured really well. I have no regrets doing either of them at 6 months :)
