Glad to see I'm not the only one that has a girl that humps :D Stella does the hump the air thing quite often. IMHO I think it is just a feel good/excited type of behaviour because it is always after a game or first thing in the morning when she first sees me. Sometimes she will be playing with Sonny & all of a sudden as soon as the game has stopped, she also does it. Only last a few seconds. I haven't tried to stop her cause after all she isn't actually doing it to anybody. I agree Aussie3, it isn't disturbing & after all she is a dog

Can't Find The Paralysis Tick
BC Crazy replied to littlesev's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Also double check right up underneath the stoppers on his front legs. Another fav spot for ticks. I agree there is no better way to check for them than with your finger tips. I am another that is suprised the vet let you take him home. I would maybe trying another vet as well asap if he is still showing signs of a tick. -
Very cute persephone

How Much Is Fair To Board A Pup For 2 Weeks
BC Crazy replied to mini girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was unable to pick up Stella until she was 12 weeks old. Her breeder made it quite clear that she didn't have a problem looking after her for that bit longer at no extra cost to me. I had already paid for her in full at 10 weeks of age. If I did board my guys at our local establishment I think it is about $30 per day. $12 sounds suspiciously cheap to me. -
Oh no kirty....I am ever so sorry for your huge loss I am just so shocked. You gave Stevie such a wonderful life. You 'showed' her the world. She saw everything through your very patient, loving eye's. I followed your amazing efforts with her right from the beginning with the greatest admiration for you & your beautiful Stevie. What a heart breaking thing to happen to such a courageous girl. R.I.P. Stevie girl. You were such an inspiration girl & so very brave

Wonderful, heart warming story What a great job the RSPCA are doing to help these poor people & their beloved dogs when they have been a bit down on their luck. Some people just need a leg up & they can get back on track again & some just want to be with their dog & pretty much left alone. That's OK too as long as the animal is being cared for. Thanks for sharing samoyedman :)

Oh yes the "throw away" dog. When you are done with "it" you just give it the flick. Nothing angers me more....... And it is ALWAYS the poor dog that suffers every time
-
Oh yes, very limited eye / verbal contact while correcting this snappy faced behaviour.

Same here.... Sticky dogs ..... LOL

It's terrible isn't it Aussie3? I have never had a dog do that like Stella used to. She would even do it if I was out in the yard if doing something with my back to her & she spotted me she would run at me flat out & launch herself on my back to get to my face & snap, snap, snap. Little bugger  I soon learnt never to turn my back on her till I got this under control.

Not Aussie's. Not sure what they are apart from poor little puppies in a bloody pet shop

Stella was the absolute worst with the bitey face thing. Countless times I have had the skin removed from my nose/blood noses etc from her as a puppy. It was a big game to her at my expense. She would literally run at me & leap in the air straight at my face with her mouth open if I had been out for 5 mins. She was that excitable So what I did was give the "sit" command with a treat reward is she complied & I wouldn't say anything else to her but I would stroke her quite firmly with both hands. More of a calming pat if that makes sense. I did this every single time I greeted her. You MUST be consistant & firm.I never sat on the floor, you must keep upright. Sitting on their level IMO is an open invite to the bitey face game. As Stella also used to jump up, the sitting position soon fixed that problem as well. Over time this method worked a treat for us.I found that Stel at first used resist me but gradually she began to respond by sitting automatically. I had to also learn that until she got the message I wasn't to do my usual greeting, "Hi honey" blah, blah in my excited voice. Only getting her more excited. Just very little conversation until we got the message that all this snappy face thing is not on. Make sure everyone that interacts with him does the exact same. Stella seldom does bitey face now & if she does it is more of an air snap not directed at me & she rarely jumps either. She is still very excited when she greets us no matter how long we have been 'gone' & she is still very 'talkative' but those other 2 very annoying habits are pretty much a thing of the past. I am wrapped as I was sick of people asking me what happened to my face

Awwwww.... Reggie is beautiful Sometimes it is so hard to get good pic's of BC's as they don't stay still for very long. I always try it when they are too tired to resist. My boy I can do anything with, dress him up, he loves it but Stella is like, "get this thing off my head right now"

Nz Animal Welfare Group Teaches Dogs To... Drive Cars?
BC Crazy replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in In The News
I saw this on the news last night on tele & couldn't believe it ay first. Apparently the message they are trying to convey is that rescue dogs can do anything. They taught a couple of these dogs to actually drive these modified cars by clicker training. Amazing. They were even changing the gears & Steering it. With their seat belts on of course :) -
I have seen this story but hell I could watch it over again. Just beautiful What a wonderful partnership ....

OMG k9angel I have just burst into tears after reading your last post It just astounds me, honestly. How could anyone be so bloody heartless Poor Mal girl Some people don't deserve the right/pleasure of dog ownership EVER. Yep & that's the thanks that poor old girl gets after years of devotion & loyalty Shame on them I don't know how you held it together K9, I would of completely lost it with the selfish bitch.

Beautiful pics once again. So tranquill. Love the one with the reflection of the tree on the water with the pelican :)

We use both Thundershirt & meds with Stella with some improvement. She definatley doesn't get to the same level of intensity & she recovers quicker now which is good.
-
Very lucky here as both mine are a dream to do their nails. Sonny doesn't like but stands like a statue while I do them. Stella is wonderful too. OH usually just flips her over onto her back & scratches her belly  she will lay like this all day so I do hers then, she doesn't move a muscle. Unorthadox perhaps but works like a charm :)

Stella was going o.k. with storms as a puppy but when she was about 6 months old we had a very severe storm which we do get here at times & it came from nowhere, extreme winds & thunder. Stella was inside with us but I think that night was when she began fearing them. I was very frightened that particular night so maybe she could sense that too. Total blackout, me rushing about for a torch etc. now she is very storm phobic unfortunately. Although she has always been very noise phobic. The slightest sound & her first instinct is to panic / whine & run. So sad really & I do feel for her as it musn't be a very peaceful way to live. I am unaware of anyway you can counter condition that behave though.
-
Santo thats interesting. As I understand it even though this little lab was breed from 100% storm proof dogs this particular pup was still noise phobic sometimes, so it also must come down to each individual pups temp as well as the genetic link. Correct me if I am wrong.
-
My Stella is very noise phobic. She is a mess emotionally in storms like last night. She doesn't predict them though & her nervousness starts when the storm does, not before. I tried everything to conditioner her as a pup the same as I did with Sonny & he loves them. She is just a totally different dog. She just shuts down. I hope it doesn't storm again this afternoon as I'm off to a wedding, my brother is getting married. I won't be there long if the bad weather returns though. I will make sure she is secure before I go & lucky it is only minutes away. I was unaware that this phobia was genetic. Learnt something there. Stella's mum is quite highly strung I have found out. Maybe it is coming from her.
