High Potential Dogs In Low Potential Homes
BC Crazy replied to Lollipup's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Geez, I would've thought dog sports owners would be right onto any sign of weight gain. The added stress on the dogs heart, joints etc. Not to mention it would slow them down & make it that much harder for the poor dog. I'm suprised again to be honest but not in a good way. -

I must say Megan I am also very shocked re trialling an obviously injured dog. Poor thing Why would anyone do that? Firstly, the discomfort factor for the animal. Surely that would have to be a responsible dog owner top priority. Secondly, the big risk of causing further injury. They must just get overly competitve perhaps. Best times at all costs perhaps. Very sad if that is the case. -
I use a Coleman camping table LOL. No restraints. Both mine put themselves up onto it as soon as they see the grooming bag come out. Bit crowded, LOL so the younger one opts to hop off till it's her turn. Oz grooming world was the best value when I was in the market for one :)

I tend to put the guilt trip on myself a lot regarding my ownership of Border Collie's. I just adore them. I know that both of mine could so much more in experienced hands. Even though they get tonnes of attention one on one with me, 3 hours walk/swim/tug/fetch every morning without fail. I often think they are missing their chance to shine at some form of dog sport. I am hoping to live that dream with them one day. Also hope they aren't too bored in the mean time. They do seem to be very happy dogs in themselves though & very content :) Yes, they have a great life. Lots of fun activites, love & attention. So I guess in the scheme of things that is just as important. -

Has Anyone Ever Tried Any Products From....
BC Crazy replied to Tara8430's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Not yet Tara though I have just ordered some Fur Tonic :) Let you know how it goes OK. -
I use CC for whitening & CC Black on Black for black obviously  Plush Puppy would be my 2nd choice. They make a white shamp. & black one as well. Great products too. If your whites are stained in any way try PP Wonder Block. Great for getting out any yellowing or discolouration. PP Deep cleansing shampoo is good, I use it as a pre wash. You only need to use a small amount of any of these products I have found. But I don't dilute them. I always do their black first & then their whites. With the white one I leave it on for about 5 mins then rinse off. Brings the whites up lovely. I also do their feet twice. I also put a little bit of vinegar in the final rinse as I find it helps to remove all the chemical residue out of the coat & leaves coat nice & shiney :) I use Lazor Lites lanolin conditioner on the pants & tail as mine are big salt water swimmers but you wouldn't need to do that as it would make Hamish's coat too heavy :) Must add that I don't show my 2 PME, just like them to look good. Oh & just make sure that you are careful with the Black Shampoo which ever one you choose as it could stain your whites if you accidently spill some say on their, rinse it off immediately :)

Another one with Silver Eagle cool coats here. I love them & do find both of mine are more settled on extremely hot days wearing them. I never leave them on when unattened & regularly check them to make sure they are still damp. I have also stuck them in the fridge in a plastic bag after wetting them overnight in readiness for the next day during a really hot summer :)

Don't worry LDork, takes more than that to turn me off a product anyway LOL. I have actually been on Vans website & was unaware they made a Kanagroo Sensitive skin raw dog mince that I am going to buy when I find out where I can buy it :) Also might add the Vans oil blend as well at first to give him that bit of an extra boost as his coat is really suffering :) -

I am glad I stumbled across this thread as I may have found a reason for why my boy's coat isn't looking very good ATM & I have been having trouble with it for some time now. I was unaware that Kangaroo meat was low in Omega 3 & that is what I mainly feed Sonny. So maybe he is lacking in Omega levels, who knows. He does get eggs, sardines etc once or twice a week but might not be enough for him. I will add some supplements, Omega 3, 6,& 9 to his food & see how it goes. -
The trainer I spoke to has a 7 month old German Shepherd and a 7 year old Poodle cross...and she offered to bring both of them to socialise Poppy, which was nice of her. Also, she lives in the same suburb as me and I can see her once a week :) Sounds like you are off to a great start Ldork & she is close by which is really good too. I haven't been for ages so you I am trying to get to see my trainer next month if she has spare time. She is very busy, pretty much all the time but I am lucky as I am at home most days so I can arrange myself around when it's suits her. She is 1 hours drive away which doesn't bother me as she is marvellous :)

Yes I was thinking the same thing re the harness issue. They allow halti, infin's & alike but I don't think harnesses :)
-
Gee that is reasonable Ldork. Im in a similar situation regarding local clubs . Its 4o min away. We only have one & they are still in the dark ages regarding the methods they use. I choose to pay for private tuition. My trainer is very busy though & don't get to see her as often as Id like to. I would like to go regularly.

Vets All Natural - Perfect Puppy Nutrition

It is generally too low in fat for puppies. I would definitely not feed it as a primary protein source, or even a secondary protein source. Oh, hope I didn't do the wrong thing feeding my 2 then roo then . Although they did have a very varied diet & still do. it certainly wasn't there only source of protein, not their 2nd or 3rd. They also have chic, fish & beef. I did give some Lamb too when they were little which is more fatty. They are perfectly healthy according to my Vet :) My puppy gets roo meat every day. I'm about to trial my girls onto VAN when I can feed them both the adult variety and the same thing each day and the meat source will be Roo. I'm a fan of Roo as well Donatella -

My thoughts exactly Haredown Whippets. Even if Owey's tragic story saves one poor family such despair but educates many. I would be wrapped. I don't know how to organise to get this thread pinned but it deserves to be IMHO.

Bumping this thread again.

I actually brought one of those Sporn harnesses LDork for my daughter in laws Amstaff. Works wonders on "Thumper". She actually has a lot more control with him now & he hasn't had much training or anything. I love the Infin8 halters & use them all the time but you can't use them on dogs with short muzzels, like Amstaffs, Boxers or alike. With the Infins they will rub their face etc at first but you just take it slowly, 5 mins at a time & gradually attach the lead etc I find they work really well. Plus I love the fact that once they improve on lead you just remove the nose band & they are working on a martigale collar then as both mine are now. Sounds like your need to find a new dog club, rednecks errr.

I used Kangaroo when both mine were puppies, right through to adulthood, they love it & have had no issues. Its low fat/high protein. I also feed premium dry food ,chic frames & meaty raw bones as well on occassion. I too fell into the trap of feeding as per the suggested guide lines on the packet. As they are just guide lines you need to monitor your dog closely, feel him, if you can't feel ribs, cut him back a little :)
