  1. WOW Bianca the Prozac is pricey ! Endep is $22 for 6 weeks. Maybe you could inquire about it. Wouldn't hurt to ask. Save yourself some $$. Thanks for the info & links, I will read up on that :) Yes it is nice to know we are alone. I just knew something wasn't quite right with my sweet girl. I have had BC's since childhood & never witnessed behaviour like it It is very upsetting for all concerned. So a little bit of relief is a god send.
  2. I also saw this footage last night on tv Poor family concerned & I hope Buckie is returned asap, unharmed . I don't know why there Is always such a fuss about camera's etc. I don't have a problem with it at all. People say it's an invasion of privacy, blah, blah, blah. Only if you have something to hide IMO. If it wasn't for the footage some of these cases would never be solved. At least they have a lead in Buckies case.
  3. WOW, that's great !! Your a lucky girl I haven't used it sorry am no help to you, just wanted to say congrats. I have heard really good reports about it though.
  4. Yes, it's not just ocassionally that they are anxious, if your Molly is anything like my girl. Stella used to go off at anything. A bird could land in next door tree & she'd be off, not just for a second, Stella would run crying for hours.Frantic She also has literally flipped right over on lead as well. Usually does 360's & spins really fast. Snapping, snarling & carrying on I have to stay one step ahead of her when out & about. Check anything on coming, behind us & everywhere in between. She has improved on meds though but DA is still an issue with certain dogs. She is a lot more relaxed in our back yard, & even when we are out walking at times which is wonderful. Love the pic of Molly on your banner Biannca by the way, lovely :) Just had to edit: I haven't heard of Cholodin before. Is it an anti depressant? I was a bit shocked that you can use human meds on animals but seems to be working for us & have heard others have used it to. It is also cheaper than any canine version, so that's another plus I figure.
  5. Yes, I think if just a moment we slipped into the fathers shoes & witnessed the horror of this situation. I know even when I saw that poor puppy get killed that day on the beach, I went into shock, was a blubbering, numb, hysterical mess & I didn't even know the puppy or people involved. They'd have to lock me up in a padded room if something like this happened to one of my dogs. People react differently when "in" the moment.
  6. As a BT owner I totally agree with you and I do exactly what you do. I don't allow my dogs anywhere near unknown dogs - people probably think I'm very unfriendly but when another dog is coming the other way, I move as far away as possible. While I'm very confident of the temparament of my dogs, I still don't take chances because it's not worth it. Totally agree with above comments - unknown dogs with unknown temperaments = recipe for disaster. So hoping for good recovery for the poor puppy and his owner. My GSD can still be reactive and I have lost count of the number of times people have approached me with their dog with the common greeting "my dog is friendly" to which my reply is always "mine is not!!". Not always a good line to make new friends but they usually get the message. I have to do the exact same thing GSD as I have a very reactive girl also. Lucky we aren't out for a social gathering. Most people get it but you do get some that 'keep coming' to which I have to be more assertive with vocally. Just because she 'looks friendly' & she can be very friendly. But she can also be quite nasty & it's the unpredicibility of Stella that I have to strictly monitor. I have also witnessed an adult dog that had a brain snap, not a BT. The adult dog in the blink of an eye picked up an young puppy while 'playing' with him in the shallows at the beach & shook the poor puppy to death The whole scene will be etched in my mind forever. It was horrendous. Something I wish I hadn't seen but I have taken a huge lesson from. You can NEVER be too cautious with your beloved best friends.
  7. Hi Frodo's mum. Your new addition 'Luka' is awesome. Love his baby blues. You had better get yourself some shares in TOTW now, it looks like you may need them with the size of those feet
  8. Good on you for rescuing the big lad Beautiful pic's too. He looks like a very happy boy :)
  9. So very sad for 4 month old puppy & his devoted owner. Hope puppy pulls through & doesn't have any issues as a consequence of this vicious attack I can't help it but am 'out of there' at the sight of a Bully anything heading our way. I am afraid of them & they are just so powerful. Having said that any dog is capable of having a brain snap & it only takes a split second. I am always extremely careful & keep my 2 away from unknown dogs regardless of size/breed. Paranoid yes but you just can't be too careful. I hope the BT owner is held accountable for the expenses of this poor little puppy. It is the very least he could do IMHO.
  10. Stella opens her wire crate at times, only when she feels like it. They are such smarty pants :)
  11. Hi Lisa & welcome. Wire crates are stronger but uglier than the soft sided ones, yes  The only time I would put a cover over it is if it was pretty cold, winter time/ cold wind. It's too hot for them otherwise. I have an old sheet I throw over mine if need be as I have a very nervy girl at times, so the less she see's the better. I am not sure where you are at but unless you are in a cold climate it is not necessary & I find I just throw a blanket over top then if we get a cold snap. I do also use a good quality crate mate though so as they are warm when lying down. I use a Snooza Futon for a crate mate as they are cool in summer & warm in winter. IMO as far as crate training goes I wouldn't cover the crate. If you want to pretty up the crate a bit, I just brought both of mine a really cute, personalized blanket with paw prints around the edge that lies on top of their c rates that are inside where they sleep. Got them online. Hope I was of some help. Enjoy your Aussie :)
  12. Oh, many thanks Dancinbcs for clarifying this. I certainly don't want Sonny tail any thicker, or his pants for that matter. On Sonny's body , I have been shown incorrectly how to use the Coat King then as I was shown was not to lift the top coat up, but use MCK directly onto the top coat, no wonder it is growing back all patchy, not happy Will be following your method from now on. So wish I had known about it earlier. Sonny being neutered, it is really hard to keep his coat looking good, but I do put a lot of effort / pride into it. I like mine to always look their best. Someone we both know will confirm that for you :) :) & thanks for saving me some $$ & not running out buying the best thinning scissors when I don't need them. I have a cheap pair I use to get the little bits of dead coat from behind their ears. Had to edit, Sorry Sheena, didn't mean to hijack your thread but sounds like we are having very similar issues. Maybe we both have BC's / foxes
  13. Sorry to hear about your little girl PA hope something can be done to mend her.
  14. Yes laughtong, they are way too intelligent at times, you have to keep one step ahead of them otherwise they out smart us. It is just unfortunate because it is always the dog that suffers to the point of homelessness as in this case. They can be' a lot of dog' if you like for some. It never ceases to amaze, & you hear it far too often that people don't do their homework BEFORE purchasing a Border Collie. Sit down & really think it through. If in ANY doubt that they may be time poor or what ever, DON'T purchase a BC. Maybe buy something that is less work. My heart goes out to this poor dog going to waste, both mentally & physically. I sure do hope he finds the loving/devoted home he so deserves
  15. Such a shame to read this thread as a Border Collie is such a terrific dog. Very intelligent & make a fabulous family dog, in the right hands, with a family that had time to train/exercise & make them a loving family member. Sorry but just upsets me so. The Border Collie Club in NSW, not sure what state you are in, but they have a BC rescue . I'm pretty sure. Maybe you could give them a ring? If not I'm sure they could put in touch with the right people. Hope he finds the home he rightly deserves. Good on you for trying to help this poor fella.
  16. Sonny loves being brushed which is great. Stella not so much but I groom mine daily so they just pop themselves on the grooming table as soon as they see me get the grooming bag out  I am in the market for a decent pair of thinning scissors thought they might do a better job on the pants e.t.c. too. Thanks for the 'heads up' though :)
  17. Hi Bianca.a & welcome :) Re medication for Molly. My girl is on Enep & it's made a huge difference to her. She is much more relaxed & alot less anxious without it affecting her natural charactor, which is very alert, fast & switched on :) sorry am heaps tired cause been at bc show in sydney, will talk 2moz :) OK, Biannca.a I'm back in the land of the living  Just wanted to add that our Vet did say that Prozac was another option for us, along with Ritalin. He did think that Endep would suit us best though & so far I would have to agree. Good luck with whatever you choose & let us know how you get on. I'm interested to know :)
  18. Just to make it KNOWN ! I would never make fun or celebrate at the expense of anyones's misfortune. I however, feel very strongly that puppy mills should be outlawed. I also believe that a pet shop isn't a suitable place to buy a puppy from. So if that means that some have to close, so be it.
  19. My girl Stella is a very affectionate girl. She is a tail wager, when she wags it her whole butt gets going & she smiles at the same time. it wouldn't matter if she hadn't seen you all day or if she just saw you 30 seconds ago, you still get the same greeting. But what just tops the whole thing off is that she is a toy sucker & has been since the day I got her at 12 weeks old. So you also get a soggy, wet "Pete" the pelican (her favourite toy) shoved in your face, Nice!! She is she a sweet girl, she makes me smile all the time :)
  20. Job very well done to all concerned. Holly looks terrific :)
