  1. Excellent response Persephone. At 8 weeks Testosterone wouldn't be in high levels, too young for that. Maybe some sort of chemical imbalance going on. Could be genetic too? A really good Vet/behaviourist sounds like the best idea. I know with my girl she wasn't a resource guarder at 8 weeks but I couldn't take her home till 12 weeks, so not sure why but in those 4 weeks she became very guarding over her treasured chic wing. But never anything else. You could put your hand in her food bowl, grab her fav toy, no sign of aggression.
  2. My girl was a pretty severe resource guarder at 12 weeks. She was nasty. We, well OH took over feeding her as I was intimidated by her as I wear my heart on my sleeve, "too soft". He worked with her, gave her half a chicken wing, walked away, then returned to deliever the other half. Over time this method worked wonders. We call it the jackpot method, give half of a treasured food, wait for a short but unknown time, then return with the other half :) she was desexed at 6 months, & now is almost 2. Not a sign of food aggression to this day :)
  3. Yes Smartypaws you don't get instant results with meds. It took good month to five weeks before I noticed a significant change in Stella but I will say after about 2 weeks in there were very subtle differences in her behaviour. Just simple signals like she would react to something but then stop & just stand still for a moment. That wouldn't of happened before, there would be no stopping if she was aroused. She also started to lay down & her little eye lids would blink just slightly slower, she'd give a big exhale & lower her head down to lay flat out. Another first. Glad to hear your boy is also benefiting from some carefully monitored meds SM. It is so nice to see them at peace with themselves, isn't it. :)
  4. Yep. Be polite & just njoy your day. Yes, I was just myself & enjoyed listening to my dog breeder who is fountain of info. Cuddle all the dogs & generally drool till I was almost in need of a bib LOL. The only mistake I think I made was probably a bit too excited about the whole thing & arrived a little early but she musn't have been to offended as she has said if ever I wanted another BC just to let her know :)
  5. This story just sickens me, sorry, I understand she's your sister but the dogs welfare must come first. Am at a loss for words. Poor boy. How cruel can people be. So wife lets him out gate in the vien hope he will run away shame on her. Hubby is IMO in desperate need of a reality check. He obviously doesn't have the time nor the inclination to look after this poor fellow properly but he won't set him free so he can have some quality of life with a family that actually cares about him I so hope someone can give him a real home where he can be loved & feel part of the family. Surely that isn't much to ask given the fact that he didn't ask to be in his present predictiment in the first place. He's been deprived from any part of that thus far thanks to this family
  6. Snook, so pleased Justice is going so well. You sure are racking up some very memorable wins & you should be beaming with pride cause I sure would be. You have put lots of work/time into Justice which has certainly paid off. Well done :) Thanks for your kind words regarding my girl. Stella is much calmer on most days at home which I am very happy about. We still have bad days but she recovers quicker & doesn't quite get to those extreme levels she once did :)
  7. Have just placed my order. Gotta love free shipping :) I'm going to give those fun foam balls a try Sheena as my girl is fetch/ball mad. Glad they don't squeak cause she doesn't like anything that does
  8. Supa cute boy :) He is blessed to have so much space to explore. What a fun life he has :)
  9. Biannca.a, I can so relate to the way you feel about putting Molly on anti-dep & I was struggling with it myself for a long time. Now though I can see how much it benefits Stella & I am so happy I did. Don't know why I struggle with it? Maybe because I used to think god I can't even take care of Stella or control her outbursts, this is a dog for heavens sake. How hard could this be??? When you really look at the whole picture it is out of your control because they are 'in balanced' in their mind, poor things. I too was on Endep for many years, so you'd think I could come to terms with it more easily than what I have. As we speak my girl is relaxing on our back deck after her long walk & swim this morning. This would of never happened without meds. She was like Molly pretty much a nervous/anxious cot case most of the day. She'd jump out of her skin at the slightest sound & then run frantically, whining for hours on end To witness this behaviour on a daily basis & not do what ever it takes to help her would be cruel & heartless IMHO. I couldn't do it any more.I did, like you, try everything just about & meds were my last resort. The only regret I have is I wish I had started Stella on them earlier. Poor Molly, I hope she is having a better day today & you find her the help she needs. Good luck & keep us posted :)
  10. Way to go Lucy. You did very well girl. Don't be too hard on yourself Megan. I think you did well. It is all very well for people to say 'don't panic' etc but Lucy is your dog, not their's & in the heat of the moment it is very hard to keep calm at times. Although I do understand it benefits all concerned to remain in control, I believe that too is a learn't behaviour. One which I'm working on as well. You should be a proud mum today :)
  11. It depends what the problem is, and the best diagnostic test seems to be a 'try it and see' approach. However, and this is important, any trial needs fair and objective measures. Whilst underlying affective states may change, learned behaviours may persist. So it's easy to get 'false negatives' (same with medication, although meds can be stronger and have other effects which are more noticeable). My previous GSD was from working lines and tryptophan quite literally changed her life, so drive isn't necessarily a problem. She still had loads of drive after treatment, also. But yeah, meds often provide the only real solution for truly biological causes of anxious, fearful, and reactive behaviour. Interesting Aidan & really good that tryptophan helped your GSD. Certainly have to agree with the 'try it & see' approach.
  12. Yes I agree corvus. My main objective was to lower her anxiety/stress levels ASAP. I did trail alternatives for a short time just in case I came across something that helped her & some thing's did slightly help but not enough to stop her suffering. Now she can actually lay down & rest in our backyard most afternoons, which is a first. Also if she does get upset for whatever reason she seems to recover far quicker where as before she would of remained anxious for hours after wards.
  13. Biannca, I tried quite a few other products before Endep for Stella. Troy Behave, Tranquil, Dap spray & collar,Calm etc etc in the hope that one of these may work but I think being such a high drive girl, they just weren't effective. She had thunder shirt which does help. This is not to say that they won't work on Molly.
  14. Wonderful news ! So happy for all concerned If the footage is correct & it turns out that it was the parents & the son who stole him What wonderful role models this poor boy has This is how you get what you want son, steal it
  15. Geez your Tia is on a mission PM.
  16. Hi perry's mum, I have a TNH crate from petstock which is 4 years old & is used daily for my male BC since he was a very lively puppy & still looks like brand new. I have another from Vebo & that one is also very good. Both very well made & well priced.
  17. Another vote for the Justice jigsaw here too Snook. Fab pic's as always
  18. Exactly. Camera's only worry people with something to hide IMHO.
  19. OMG, I hope they find the poor sick puppy very soon & he gets through this ordeal ok I wondered how someone would actually steal from a Vets in the first place but am up to speed now with that as this has been posted else where as well. Lowlife's I just shake my head in disbelief
  20. Thanks for the "heads up" megan, I think LOL Stella 2nd birthday is coming up & Xmas. Bye bye credit.
  21. I agree. I can't understand why the parents of the kid haven't made him take the dog back, unless he was acting on their behalf. I sure as hell would be looking into who owns the dog, if one of my kids brought a dog home. Who'd know ?? Mantis. Something is not quite all it seems I feel
  22. I agree. I can't understand why the parents of the kid haven't made him take the dog back, unless he was acting on their behalf. I sure as hell would be looking into who owns the dog, if one of my kids brought a dog home. Assuming of course, that the dog made it home. Hmmmm Didn't think of that HDW.
