Local Pet Shop Has Stopped Selling Animals!

My 2 love nothing more than their daily run on the beach for a couple of hours, leash-free. I think once again you have to use your common sense as a responsible dog owner. Have your wits about you.I am very careful with mine. Check whats around you & in the distance before you let you furry kids run free. I am very lucky here because I have been using the leash-free for 18 years now so I know most of dogs here, nice or not so so if I don't like the look of who is coming up, 'leads on' until I think it is safe to let them of again. I hate holiday time here cause we tend to get invaded by lots of visitors, so I don't let my 2 off lead if I am in any doubt. You will never be able to protect your beloved's from everything but they need to LIVE alittle too. Yes there are alot idiots that think 'leash-free' means they sit & drink coffee while their little darling's go & terrorize every other pup around. I have had my share of them, everything from a guy who thought he was Caeser Millan AS IF, proceeded to "disipline" Stella by hitting her & then me with his umbrella after I flew for him. To a lady being p**sed off at me for not allowing her little "Fee Fee" play with Sonny. My choice, my dog ! In the end my 2 love to run, play & swim sooooo much I choose to take them. I will always protect as much as humanly possible. Couldn't agree more Pollywaffle, isn't it just beautiful to watch.

Re: the barking at people walking past. Both of mine do this, very annoying / frustrating. Feel your pain. I haven't tried the whistle idea Christina suggested so am going to try that next. With the bird issue. my girl is obsessed with them. But we stopped her from running outside to get them when she is inside simply by rousing on her with a firm "leave it" over & over. She hates being in trouble so that didn't take her long to work out not to do it. Her recall is her strongest asset too which is really good to work with.

Me too !!

I'm with you Scarlet & Persephone. Thought I was the only one with this problem. My girl is & has always hated Advantix time, every 2 weeks. I put it down to the smell cause it couldn't hurt her I wouldn't think. As soon as she gets a wiff of it her whole body goes tense & she goes nuts. It turns into an aerobic's work out for me, trying to hold her & apply the product. I usually end up with more on me than her.

Where Is The Best Dog Friendly Place To Live With A Beach

Hi Annes, if you don't mind me asking, where abouts is this dog park exactly as we holiday at the local caravan park at least twice a year there with my 2 BC's & didn't know this place existed. Look's great & a lease-free opposite, sounds like the place to go. My 2 would love to run around there. Does it get very busy in the park? Are most of the other dogs O.K. there as my 2 are softies & freak out when there is trouble, & so do I LOL. Feel free to pm if you wish & thanks in advance for the info. Not trying to hijack your thread Seanna, just interested. -

Where are the tissues ? What an amazing dog ! Loved the fact that he was still jumping over the jumps & he was so happy out there. Just beautiful to watch. Lump in the throat stuff. Just goes to show you, you can never underestimate the heart & sheer determination of a Border Collie. Thank you for sharing your wonderful UTube find Whitka. -

Totally understand. When an off leash dog approaches my 2 on lead, my boy usually is good but on the odd occasion he has snapped at the loose dog if it rushes up to close to me. So I warn people just in case. So many times they say "oh but my dog just wants to say hi" or something similar, then if Sonny has a snap they glare at me & I'm the worst in the world. I used to rouse on Sonny but now I reckon if the owner of the loose dog can't releash their dog & take them away, it is their own stupid fault. But it drives my so MAD cause I am doing the right thing & poor Sonny gets upset for nothing. Which inturn upsets Stella as well.

Pretty Miss Emma. Just wanted to let you know I think both your girls are awesome Emma was really something wasn't she? You were so lucky to find each other. Kenzie has grown beautifully. She is very much like my girl in nature from memory. Very reactive, which makes training quite challenging to say the least lots of fun, she is teaching me heaps. Has Kenzie still got her sucky toy monkey if my memory serves me correctly, Stella still has her sucky ball & Pelican.

Best to buy about 2 years apart, different sex IMO. Get the first one going well first, doing whatever you need them to then introduce the newbie on neutral ground the first meeting. I did this and it worked very well for me & my 2 are the very best of friends. I think having that time difference in between the 2 dogs gives the first one time to bond with you before getting the new littley. Otherwise they usually bond with each other & you find yourself being left totally out of the equation. Also I was really amazed at how much the pup will learn, watch & follow pretty much everything the older dog does The older dog shows the newbie the ropes,so if the older one is not doing what you are want it to & misbehaving, the new one will only mirror what they see.

600mm might be the one! I would like to see a dog jump 6 metres tho :p Yeah...I keep getting my cm & mm mixed up...must be a seniors thing I still think in inches. Jules...I will be working up to sprinting. I do a bit of that each day while training the dogs, but eventually my walk becomes.....walk up the hill (1.5klm,) then jog down. Last time I took Bindi on my walk, she suddenly kept turning & looking over her shoulder & was in a hurry to get home. When I took Cricket Puppy, he got to the same spot then wouldn't go any further...so that spooked me out a bit & I now go on my own. Some wild critters (humans) around here. Havn't seen them myself, but evidentually there are a couple of pitbulls running loose ATM & the owner has told us if we see them to shoot them on sight Had the first of the Canine Club Christmas parties last night 6 meters Yep, definitely a seniors thing. Know the feeling And loose Pitbulls would be my worst night mare. I am always on the lookout for stray dogs. Scary.

Another dickhead vote here.

Good luck Sheena I have lost about 9 kg since I got Stella as she is always up to 'something' so I find I don't get as much sitting around time as I used to have. I walk for 2 hours everyday with both the dogs.I am 48. Funny part about it I didn't need to lose it, so I trying to eat more so I don't get any thinner I am lucky cause I must just burn it off. I have a really good diet though, no junk food, chocolate or bickies. Enjoy a couple of quiet ones most nights of the week ;) Not going to give them away any time soon. At the risk of sounding like a dummy, what do you mean by a 600 dog, is that it's time or something?

Thats funny lol. Stella has always done it to Sonnys side. He usually just looks at her like, wat ever.

Both my BC's male & female are desexed, 3.5 & 1 year old. The male has never humped anything but my little girl humps him sometimes during their afternoon zoomie hour but she never does it any other time. I just think it is over excitment really. I don't worry about it & if she annoy's Sonny he soon puts her in her place. A quick growl & she stops straight away. She always mounts his side though, she's a funny one
