  1. Oh just wanted to add Stella picks up every bit of stress I feel, so I am very aware of being confident / calm & standing that way. Even when I am freaking out. It helps her to remain calmer than she would have been in a stressful situation.
  2. I started training Stella with recall inside, no distractions. Sometimes I would ramdomly call her for no reason & treat every single time as soon as she came & sat. Then gradually add distractions Praise, & more praise. Sometimes thirty times a day. Stella's nervousness / aggression has slowed us up too. But in the scheme of things it doesn't matter as long as we get it right in the end. I am really looking forward to seeing the trainer & getting some more direction with her. She would love flyball/agility.
  3. Beezneez, I spent lots of time with Stella, just watching her & trying different things with her just work out what really motavates her. One of favs is food, so I use food to teach her anything new. Whenever we are out, I carry a ball, we play fetch another fav. I make Stella work for everything. So once she learnt to retrieve, I make her sit or lay down or stay before I throw it. I have taught her hand signal, sit & stay at a distance. Atm we are working on heeling, not a fav LOL. So I would maybe try & just figure out what Layla really responds to best & use it to train her with. W hether it be food or whatever. Really just what Persephone said. And every dog is different. You can have every gadget in the world but it doesnt do it for her, it wont happen. I am no expert b.neez just some stuff that has really worked for my girl. She has improved tonnes, still got a way to go but I can see that I am on the right track which is a start.
  4. Poor lady. How aweful & traumatic for her& her dear dog. Everything is crossed here for Zoe's safe return. I certainly will keep my eye's open for her, you just never know.
  5. I have similar aggression issues with my 13 month old BCGirl. From about 6 months of age she has been showing pretty fierce signs of aggression towards all other dogs that we come across. The only dog she gets on with is my other BC boy, whom she adores. He is a calm dog, she is very edgey / nervey by nature. I have spent alot of time on her recall which she is 95 % reliable & as she is very driven, we retrieve ball, her favourite thing to do. This has helped lots. When another dog approaches, she is watching me more so things don't seem to escalate nearly as much as they could have. A dog approaches us she just charges at them, growling, teeth bared, ears flat to her head & hackels up. She has about a 10 feet radious that they must stay out of, any closer & she loses it. Most dogs she treats this way, no matter size or gender. Worst reaction is with Boxers. They have a very upright stance & I feel she is threatened by that. But who knows. She is the most loving girl with us, I adore her. She is extremely bright & alert. I feel she has a tonne of potentiel. I also just want her to enjoy her life without feeling anxious or threatened quite so much. Must admit she shocked me at first with this behaviour but I have just tried to get her to focus on me & we have a appointment with Steve at K9 Pro in March, can't wait ! I would recommend to get some help if possible. Good luck & keep us posted. Hope I have been of some help.
  6. Sonny is 4 in June & I have never left him over night. We go on Hols but my 2 furry kids come too, otherwisw we don't go. It would be a waste of time to leave them anywhere cause I would just worry myself sick Totally my choice to do so though.
  7. Both mine have Ezydog life jackets. Very happy with them & the grab handle comes in very handy. We use them alot when camping as the waterways are very busy, boat wise & the current is extremely strong. Not to badly priced & well made.
  8. Enjoy your new wheels. I am loving mine. Got a Hyundai cx wagon, unreal. Park it anywhere. And with enough room in the back for my 2 furry kids. We have a landcruiser to tow our caravan & to travel in but now I have a little bit of independence too, thats so easy for me for me to drive. Loving it !
  9. Warms the heart. Beautiful dog & she is looking so healthy & happy. Lovely photo's, especially the ones with your son.
  10. So sorry for your loss. Run free at rainbow bridge. Way too soon & so very sad.
  11. I voted outside during the day but in extreme weather, too hot/cold or thunder e.t.c. inside they come. Air con goes on in the warmer months. Our yard is very secure & I always have the only gate to it padlocked. When we are caravaning they have cool coats & light winter/ rain coats. Our van is air conned which we use mainly during those hot summers nights or the heater on in the winter. We are not inside the van much during the day when we are away. Usually off boating somewhere. Just try to make sure my 2 are as comfortable as possible. :)
  12. So sorry for your loss. Aren't our furry kids just the best !!! They are just so in tune to our feelings. Makes me love them even more, if that is possible. Yes Donatella, I want to punch them too. Just a dog. What a crock of *%^%. You know it is their loss people that don't know any better but my god they are missing the most amazing thing is the world. The love of a dog.
  13. My 13 month old bc girl has always had an issue with going to the toilet on lead but is getting better with age & if I take her to where my boy has been she wil go straight away. At home she is so organised, ready for bed, takes herself outside to toilet an hour before bedtime .
  14. Agree with Persephone here & not keen on this whole spray thing. Toilet train him as advised & I am sure he will be alot more comfortable. I feed my 2 twice a day, we wake at 6.30 / 7 am, both crated indoors at night. Play, toilet & exercise till 11ish, rinsed off after swim & half chic caress each, then at 4 pm dry food & 90 grams of roo mince plus vits/ fish oil etc. hope I was of some help.
  15. Yes Teebs, water pistol, Yaaa !! with my 2 it's "alright, lets party" as soon as they see anything that resembles a water pistol.
  16. I would certainly NOT rehome an aggressive dog.Totally irresponsible IMO. PTS is my last option after I exhausted every other. Professional help would be the first thing I would do. There is No Way I would be allowing any children any where near this dog either. Maybe he did bite by accident but it's just not worth taking any risks. I would never forgive myself if he decided to take to one of your children's faces next.
  17. I don't buy pet mince at all for that very reason. The fat content. I buy chic frames, & human grade roo mince from Woolies. Very lean & high in protein. They also have Black Hawk dry food each day. :)
  18. Beautiful tribute. Where's the tissues Happy Birthday Zero. Great work Shell. You have done a wonderful job not giving up on this amazing boy. :)
  19. Great ad !! Beautiful chocolate boy. Sooo handsome & clever. Stunning. I was lucky enough to see some Kerodan Border Collies when I went to the World Dog Games in Sydney a couple of years ago. Had to be dragged away from the stand they had there as I had my hands full of 3 month old choc/merel. I was in BC heaven.
  20. What a doll !! congrats !! She's a cutie. My son has a 4year old Dob he rescued & I haven't had anything to do with the breed till now. They are just such nice dogs, very loving & faithful. He thinks he is a lap dog. Good luck & enjoy. :)
  21. OMG !! Poor little puppy. Clueless owner. I see it sooo often, people walking dogs with no leads or they are carrying them. How hard is it to put the bloody lead on the dog. I hear some wonderful reasons why THEIR dog doesnt just require a lead too. Like a guy at our local dog beach, had 2 beautiful BC's, never leashed cause he had trained them so well. Now he only has one.
  22. Thats interesting dancinbcs. I have been using a metal bowl for my boys food bowl for a while now & have noticed a slight change in the appearance of his nose. Might swap him back to his ceramic one & see how he goes. Thanks for the heads-up, I have never heard of that. :)
  23. Oh,LMS, what a terrible experience for you & I'm sooo glad your pup is O.K. What a complete jerk that guy was !!! It takes all kinds, doesn't it ? And yes it seems to be the way that the idiots always spoil our fun. Glad you reported it as this nutter needs to be made aware of his "poor" conduct. I too have had encounters with some idiots & their poor untrained dogs. One elderly guy in particular actually hit my 12 month BC girl numerous times with his umbrella & then was attempting to take swings at me . It didn't bother me him having a go at me cause I pushed him away from me but you touch my dogs & all hell will break loose, I completely lost it !! Now he totally avoids me, GOOD. I am now "known" around our dog beach now ( to anyone that will listen to him ) as that crazy woman with the 2 BC's. And do I care, not one bit.
  24. So glad he is home safe & sound Clyde. I was really starting to wonder cause time was ticking away. Great news.
