  1. My rescue BC I had for 14 .5 years had one right on the end of his personnals. Poor boy. Took me awhile to find it & he was starting to go down in his hind legs. But found it & pulled it out. Quick trip to vets, lots of t.l.c. & he pulled through. Phew !
  2. No not all the way in. The body remains above the skin but gets bigger as they engorge.
  3. Not dumb at all Erny. They do engorge but they don't fall off.Although I have had times when a dog will scratch them off very occasionally. Usually they just get full & bury deeper, inbeded if you like into the skin the longer they are left on your dog. They don't multiply while on your dog either. It only takes one paralysis tick to kill a dog if not removed ASAP. One the size of a match head or even smaller. A dog can have many on him at one time. I have vivid memories even as a child sitting on our back steps literally picking off ticks one after the other on our beloved family dog. 20 or so at times. It was a daily chore for us. That was well before Advantix or alike. It is still a daily chore for me with my 2 now only (touch wood) very, very rarely do I find any on them. Advantix every fortnight does seem to work very well for us here. I apply it every 3 weeks in the winter time when ticks aren't so prevalent. They are very evil things. To see a dog suffering from a paralysis tick symtoms is just such a horrible thing to see. They make the poor dog sooo damm sick. They effect a dogs hind legs, they are unable to walk, there breathing becomes impaired as the poison constricts there larricks. The list goes on & on. Just insidious things they are.
  4. Honestly I couldn't believe what I was reading when I read this post. That Jeep Ad is one of the most clever / funniest Ad's on tele IMO. I love it !! Flynn the Border Collie is just beautiful & is the real scene stealer. Not for one moment watching this Ad & ( I have watched it many times) did I EVER have a lewd thought about anything gross. I am too busy smiling to myself & watching Flynn strut his stuff. So glad this complaint has been over ruled. Get a life I say. Sonny my BC is sooo pleased it has not been axed as it is favourite Ad. He runs up to the tele every time he hears the music start looking for Flynn. Sometimes though, much to his disappointment they put the other version of the Jeep Ad on. The one without Flynn in it & he turns to me with a very confused look on his face. Like what the hell, "where's my mate gone".
  5. Feel all over with your finger tips. Favourite area's are ears, face, gums, between toes, underneath stopper on back of front legs, armpits & chest area.. I go to those places first then bellies & privates. I go over them slowly daily, sometimes twice daily. Don't know how bad the ticks are in your area. You have a long coated dog as I do,makes it harder. This is just the way I do it so as to try not to miss anywhere. I have tick paranoia too I hate the things. Fingers crossed for you, all is good. She is such a little cutie.
  6. Interesting Showdog. Didn't know that. Love this forum. You can learn lots :)
  7. Both of my Border Collies are overshots. I purchased both mine as pets & the breeder informed me of the comformation error. That is why they were for sale as pets otherwise they would of been kept for show dogs. They suffer no issues with it apart from the fact my girl dribbles a bit & drinks lots cause of that. My boy wasn't as overshot as my girl & his almost corrected itself. There jaw continues to grow till about 11 months or so.My girls didn't improved at all. Did your brother buy his dog as a showdog? Cause you can't show a dog for confirmation with an over shot jaw. I know nothing about giant breeds but if they do take 2 to 3 years to mature it may correct itself, I don't know. Bottom line though is if this dog was brought from a reputable breeder, firstly this problem should have been brought to his attention by the breeder prior to purchase. Secondly, the vet should have picked this up I would have thought.
  8. Mine won't eat them. Sonny choked on one ages ago & neither of them will touch them now. I give them half a vege ear each now but they don't last very long. At least they aren't a choking hazard.
  9. I always talk to my 2 about anything & everything, all the time. They are perfect listeners & they understand a lot of things I say. Funny, I have always thought that my neighbours would reckon I am "off my rocker" but ATM am teaching Stella to go up a ramp, into my portable dog bath & stand still in there till I have finished washing / grooming her in our backyard. I am thrilled as with lots of encouragement, "goood girl darling, god your beautiful, your mums best girl" & on & on, blah blah blah she does it on her own now after one lesson, without being asked Soon as I pick up the ramp. Much to my amazement though my neighbour pops her head over her balconney & sez,"Well, you proved me wrong, never thought you'd get her to walk up there & I love the way you talk to your dogs, I try & isten to you everyday as it makes my day". " It must be a beautful thing to love something as much as you do". Made me feel all warm & fuzzy & slightly less silly.
  10. You might be onto something Austerra. I am a clean freak & regularly clean their drinking water. Start again with fresh water & put the rock back in. Maybe this is where I am making a mistake. Will try your suggestion Much appreciated. :) Just bear in mind too that most dogs will happily drink out of the fish pond or a muddy puddle, maybe they get some minerals naturally that way, tap water is so purified nowadays. They really don't care if it's not crystal clear. :) Will do. Yes you are right it is me who thinks that their water has to be at a standard that I would drink
  11. My girl is pretty reactive to most noises. Have just started to use LAT training 2 days ago & I would go as far as to say I have a 70% improvement thus far. Don't want to jinx myself but I can't believe the difference it has made to her. She doesn't get to the same level of reactivity as she use to & comes back down a lot quicker. I'm wrapped. :)
  12. Not so good with sizes but here goes, Toy- Havanese Small- Japanese Spritz Med- Border Collie ;) Samoyed Large- Malamute Giant- St Bernard rough coat, Newfie & yes I do love grooming. I know must be
  13. Oh that is sad but while he has spring in his step even occasionally he is still got to feeling good some of the time even. It is not his time yet then. Sounds like he is in very good/kind hands Sheena.

  15. No worries Sheena. Takes more than that to upset me. We are all here for the same reason, cause we love our dog's. :D
  16. I have been adding 1 teaspoon of ACV to their food as I am using Dog Rocks in their water & didn't want them 'not to work' I brought it from the health food shop. I am all out of ideas hence the thread. I have as of today started to put the sprinkler system on for 10 mins in the morning in an effort to wash some of urine away so it is not left on the lawn during the day to burn it. Would really matter really usually but we do intend to sell our house so want it at it's best. Thanks for everyone's help thus far. :)
  17. Sorry can't be of any help but I too would like to know. I would love to take my 2, think they would love it, know I would. :)
  18. Yes we most probably would " live with it " Sandra 777 but as we are ready to downsize we are putting the house on the market so want our home to look it's best. Or maybe we should just tell anybody looking to buy it that our lawn is a new variety of Buffalo, Leopard Buffalo maybe
  19. Hi Boronia, Yes I am using genuine Dog Rocks from the link you provided actually. I really can't figure why they aren't working here. Cause I have heard such glowing reports about them.
  20. Hi everyone, This subject has probably been done to death but couldn't find any answer's so am going to give it a go. Stella urine is making a burnt patches all over our new lawn that OH has just laid & he is understandably not a happy chappy. Have been using Dog Rock's in my dogs water for a while now but still having a big problem. Is there anything else I can do? Is it something in her diet that makes this occur? Hope it is not burning her I do water it into the lawn when I can. Just wondering if there is something I can do to rectify this problem before we end up back to a dust bowl again. Thanks in advance guys for any ideas/remedies to stop this from continuing. :)
  21. I can very highly recommend Nahrof Border Collies or Neecabe Border Collies in NSW. They are both listed on the breed pages on DOL. These breeders breed show dogs, multi class winners to Grand champs & they also have exported to have BIS winners o/s as well. I have a brought a pet Border from both of these wonderful breeders & couldn't be happier with both of my dogs. Extremely high quality IMHO. Very well breed. They have excellent temperaments, & are very healthy dogs. Also I found both these breeders very helpful even as busy as they are to answer any questions I had during my purchase & provide ongoing support when needed. Just one thing though, be prepared to wait for the right pup to come along. I waited about 18 months for the 'right little girl' & she is sooo worth it. Good luck with who ever you choose. :) Have fun with this awesome breed. I just adore mine & they bring me overwhelming pleasure everyday. Oh there is also Yarroncoly BC's also in NSW. They bred my boy's mum. I was nearly going to buy another one from them. Same deal, beautifully bred, excellent temps & very helpful people. Pretty sure they have a little boy available ATM he is as cute as too. You can see him on the BC puppies available page on DOL. Hope I was of some help to you.
  22. I visited Steve Courtney, K9 PRO. Will see how we go but it is all looking very positive. I thought I had a very nervey girl but in his expert opinion I just have a frustrated high drive girl. Poor girl. I will follow Steve's training plan to the letter. Think my girl is going to take me on a huge learning curve. Can't wait & with Steve's help I think I am on the right track. Good luck in your quest to find help for your relo. :)
  23. My girl did this while we were camping, 4 nights in a row. Never had a accident in her crate before or after that. She was 13 months old at the time. Strange as it was, I put it down to unfamiliar territory. Sometimes they can have a hiccup along the way. I wouldn't leave the crate open. Good luck.
