I get a lot of this come school holidays as well Hankdog. Makes me so cranky. We live in a holiday destination for a lot of folks. So they bring the family dog with them. Thats all well & good but they come to the leash free beach, mum, dad all the kids plus a dog, NO LEASH & it's just one big free for all. You can tell the dog rarely gets walked as he is doing well whatever he wants ERRRR. I'm doing my best to keep Stella occupied as this dog bolts up to us flat out. Family is blissfully unaware of their dogs whereabouts. I put Stella on lead as she was getting into a heightened state of arousal & yelled out to the people to come & grab there dog before Stella DOES... Well they weren't very happy with having to do this but tough. We were minding just doing our own thing. Makes me very cranky really. Another issue was I had a young mum who let her little girl approach Stella. Stel hasn't had much to do with kids. I could see Stella wasn't comfortable about this as she kept trying to hide behind me with her head lowered. So I asked the women to come collect her little one please. She replied in a rather put out manner that her daughter was used to dogs & it would be OK I replied well thats all well & good but your daughter is upsetting my dog. She very reluctantly came & got her all the while if looks could kill, I'd be dead... Now is Stella god for bid had a blow up & nipped the little girl, I would of been in all sorts of trouble & Stel would have been as well -
He is having a blast Hope things look a bit brighter for you very soon Vizsla. Tomorrow is another, much brighter, day

That may very well be a doable option actually. Definitely food for thought. I will have to investigate more where this all happens at etc. as we both are beginners. Thanks Vickie :)

I've used coconut oil on both my double coated breeds from time to time & yes I think it does help. If I were you though I would be getting rid of all that old puppy coat first. A really good groom, then go all over with a Mars Coat king ensuring that you lift the top coat up & go from under neath so as not to touch the top coat. Then a gentle wash & blow dry with a high velocity dryer. That should shift a lot of this old coat & make way for the new one :)

Same here, same blue cutter as in pic. Use it everyday without any issue. The tablet has to be placed right in the bottom of the V otherwise it wont make a clean cut.

Large - Giant Breed Puppy Kibble
BC Crazy replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Gee that is a shame if that is the case with RC. The puppy in question is being monitored closely by a Vet & is going really well on it. She looks a picture of health :) -

One family member has a giant puppy doing extremely well on Royal Canin Giant Puppy dry food. I know it costs about $ 125 or so for 15 kg. -

BC Crazy replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Jesus DDD, how scary !!! hope everyone is OK & have settled down somewhat. Your poor little one's Poor you too Very nice of those helpful folks to take you to the Vet & stuff. There are some nice folks around. By the time I got back from my walk it was thundering & rain here. Not as bad as you have copped it though. We get doozies here on the north coast at times. Frighten the hell out of me let alone the fur kids. -

Yes it's all about focus really. You want Didi to focus on things that will have a positive result & we need to do the same. I'm sure Didi has some things she does very well & those are the things you need to think about when things are getting a bit much. I find this outlook usually works for both of us when things seem to be going south. Try to step back ,breathe & refocus. This is a method but when practised helps you rebound quickly from most dramas. -
No, you definitely can't just have one Border Collie AD :D I have 2 & would love another boy but Miss Bitchy Britches would definitely NOT.

I think a very important thing to remember is NO ONE knows your dog like you do... People may know more about dogs, yes, but you know your own dog. I agree 100% with raineth it is very natural to feel down or upset at times. Owning a reactive dog takes it's toll on you emotionally because you love them to bits & you put every once of your heart, soul, effort & time into making their lives as loving & full as it can be. At times your whole life is put on hold in the process. Stella is a beautiful, loving little girl & I adore her BUT she has taken me to places emotionally that I never knew existed & everything in between. I go to bed most nights totally exhausted & had more sleepless ones than I care to remember. It's been one hell of a ride so far. A huge learning curve that I am only just starting to see rewards for on a 'good' day :) -

Poor Jakey boy Some people are just so clueless aren't they??? Unsupervised children & an adult that should know better but obviously doesn't Thank dog you know what you are doing HD. Poor Jake they can't tell us to bugger off but I bet he wishes he could of. And you know what would have happen if Jake had nipped one of them. It would have been "Oh what a bad dog" & it's would not of been his fault at all. Beautiful pic's Grumpette What great birthday party fun to be had by everyone including your 2 lovelies. Hats off to you grumpette That's just wonderful behavior for 2 large dogs in a small area full with adults, excited kids, balls, trampolines plus lots of food. Wonderful effort :D -

Thanks raineth & grumpette :D I'm so grateful for this fellow dolers generosity. I'm really wrapped with our progress. So proud of Stella. She tries so hard just to please me & do the right thing. She truly is the loveliest girl. I just adore her. I can see my hard work is starting to pay off. Makes me feel all warm on the inside with pride :) She is ready for a step up now & you know I think she is going to thrive on this new direction. I can really see loads of untapped potential with her. I just have to learn how to show her the way. It's so exciting.... -

A very kind fellow Doler has been nice enough to share her vast experience with me, hopefully once a week which I'm very thankful for. Very difficult to find a descent trainer in our area. So when she can fit me in to her very busy schedule. I'm really looking forward to it. Stella has improved immensely as far as her reactivity goes. While Stel will never be an angel, she has really surprised me. So now it is time to up the work anti as far as what she actually knows. So I want to really get into general obedience, tricks & Agility ground work. Give her plenty to think about. She is a very smart, complex girl so I need to keep her mind ticking. Wish us luck :) Sonny isn't going to miss out. He is going to learn some new things as well. He will be happy just to join in. He is a very easy boy thankfully. -
