Pups Interacting Through Fence
sas replied to Kody's_Mum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm sorry but what a joke, I'd tell them to bugger off. -
I'd do the same, exactly what I did when we moved house and he llifted his leg inside.....never did it again.
-
mmmm I've not heard about it happening this bad before....any advice from your Breeder at all? Has he been this way for some time or could his hormones just be spiking?

You'd need to contact your dermatologist. If your dogs allergens can't be controlled by diet or removing the offending allergen or by other random methods then drugs would be the normal course because you're looking at quality of life. I think it's extremely odd for a dog to come up as negative to all allergens, was it the blood allergen test rather than the Intradermal one where the allergen is injected into the skin?
-
It's the terminology I think.... Boosting i.e. asking the immune system to perform at a higher level that it is acting at now vs trying to normalise the immune system to not being overactive to allergens. If 'Boosting' the immune system worked we wouldn't have allergic dogs....can only dream.

Awesome!

You can not import DAP from outside of Australia, Customs won't allow it. I have imported the refills and the bottles of spray before so you can do it. I think they had to write 'Natural Spray' on the packaging though. I have a spare bottle of DAP spray I no longer need, just sitting here looking for a home ..... You're lucky you got it through, I have already checked with Customs prior as I really wanted to collars and many of the overseas websites say they do not ship DAP to Australia because of the Customs problem.

I'd actually put him in his place rather than just asking obedience routines from him.

nawww he's just a baby, lower you expectations a bit. He is capable of doing some short stays but you can't just expect him to know. Will you be taking him to puppy preschool and obedience?

8 Month Old With Kennel Cough (me Thinks)
sas replied to nikosg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sorry Erny, I totally disagree, any dog with suspected Kennel Cough should be taken to the Vet. Kennel Cough can develop into something quite serious and it's not something to be flippent about. I don't think we should be encouraging self-diagnosis when that can be incorrect. -

Yep tried it with a rescue showing anxiety, no luck however I unplugged it because the unit got so bloody hot I was worried it was going to start a fire.
-
Yep, you need to teach your dog some more control and how to appropriately meet other dogs. Their dog was obviously uncomfortable with the large boundign dog running towards it otherwise your dog is going to find itself bounding up to the wrong dog one of these days.
-
So what would you be building immunity for if allergies are due to an over active immune system?
-
mmm never seen a spring pole one but Aussie Dogs do a tough tug hanging one.

I think it's a lost cause because the breed seems so attractive to those who seem to do nothing more than detroy it's reputation. I think it's a lost cause because you can't control who the dog ends up. I think it's a lost cause because people are breeding them from stock that shouldn't be bred from. I think it's a lost cause because the public have been hammered with the dangerous Pitt Bull story for too long now.

Erny, I don't know how to explain our situation....Dante just responds to clicker training so much better than he does a verbal marker, I believe my timing is correct with the verbal markers. For me personaly, what I like about the click is that it holds no emotion, there is no tone change in the voice to confuse the dog either.

Anti histimines never worked for my boy and he was on all different ones for a long time, no long term evident issues. He lives oon Cortisone.
-
I just couldn't and wouldn't do that, I have Danes mind you but I just can't see me accepting that from a dog.
-
LOL not that it neccessarily deemed safe but I recall my father when I was very young flooring it in the car up the road and then opening the door which the dog jumped in and was never hesitant about getting in the car again LOL In all seriousness, maybe get the dog checked out just to be on the safe side.

Many of the meds we give our dogs are human meds or derived from human meds, just check with your vet as they can give you the correct dossage rates for the human anti-histmynes

There are different types of allergen testing such as Intradermal which the allergen is applied to a shaved portion of the skin, I believe the results are discussed with you that day and you decide whether you want to go ahead with the desensitizing injections which may or may not work. Then there is Blood allergen testing, there are a couple of different tests i.e. $200 v $500 test, they test for a range of different allergens, they test for food as well which is considered not possible. In addition your dog could get a positive on a certain allergen int he blood test but that doesn't mean your dog is currently reacting to that allergen. Intradermal is considered to be the bees knees of allergy testing. How come you don't like to give anti-histimines daily if that's keeping her comfortable? If you dog is only had allergic responses for a couple of days, it could be anything, you'd really only want to spend the $ because intra dermal is not cheap if you are having a long term allergy problem. Dante can't have the intra-dermal as he's on Cortisone, he's had the blood allergen testing but even then you don't know if you're getting false positives, we also did the desenitising injections. It took about 10 days to get the results back.

Is he forgetting or is he simply old and that part of his body is failing him?

I do not respond to mobile numbers if they are left as the sole method of contact. In the first place I see no reason why I should foot the bill for what is 9 times out of 10 a lengthy conversation and anyway, I cannot dial mobiles from my home number by choice. If somebody has sent me an email, then a reasonable assumption is that they have email capabilities and I am then more than happy to continue communication with them VIA email....up to a point because there will invariably be a need to speak with them sooner or later if our "relationship" is to continue. But by then, they will more than likely have rung me anyway or other mutually agreeable arrangements to speak will have been made. I have no discrimination against free email addresses. I tend to use them as well so as to keep spam and viruses away from my private address books. I only have a mobile number....I figure I'm a pretty logical person and refuse to pay for a landline when I have a mobile....do I get points taken away because I'm logical? I don't expect Breeders to call me though, I'm more than happy to call.
