It's much easier to put it in their food bowl and mix it in rather than their water bowl and it will aid in their digestion if done that way as well, you get it done with one hit rather than having a tainted water bowl for the entire day

ETA They need to correct their terminology because they make it sound as though 70% of dogs will be fixed and that is misleading.
-
Did you have something that states it's 70-80%? Because 3 different Vets told me 20% approx were successful, may have increased over the years but I don't think it would have jumped that high. Our info sheet from the vet states that it has a 65-70% chance of reducing symptoms... We're using different terminology ;) I wasn't referring to simply reducing symptoms as that could be as little as scratches be a wee bit less each day.

Of course it would have.... 15 year old dog....aggression problems.....bad teeth which requires the dog to go under GA......not toilet trained.....suggested re-homing.... Perhaps someone in your class who didn't want the dog put down can take it on.
-
Neither do I but I completely disagree with re-homing an aggressive dog and that's what my stance is.
-
Can you assist by behaviour asessing this dog Erny? The initial problem is finding a carer willing to take this dog and I believe the owner was given false hope. if it is surrendered to a pound it is unlikely to make it out alive.
-
Did you state he's aggressive? Aggressive dogs shouldn't be re-homed. I personaly believe he should be behaviour assessed first. It's easy to go with the heart instead of the mind sometimes. It's about Rescue Ethics and aggressive dogs should not be re-homed when there are thousands of well temperamented dogs in need of homes. Some Rescuers let their emotions rule and if they're not a qualified Behaviourist I believe that to be dangerous regardless of the size of the dog and that's why I pts my last foster, completely irresponsible to rehome an aggressive dog. If he wasn't aggressive and had a nice temperament I would be happy to assist. To the OP: Meh, I just read the dog is 15 so he probably can't even have GA and he has these other issues *shakes head* I don't know why you would guilt the owner into surrendering....let her put her dog to sleep whilst she holds it and says good bye. A 15 year old dog should never ever be in a pound.

Sasha's Blend - Does It Really Improve Joint Mobiltity?

Best to confirm with your Vet You can get trace mineral supplemention for dogs so it just depends on the dossage. -
We did it and it didn't work, we live on Cortisone as many of his allergens are things we can not control. how long you you try the immunotherapy for? Over a year. We were told that a result would be seen by the 6 month mark if it were going to happen but we kept with it longer. When we did it, we were told approx. 20% of cases were successful, I'm not sure what the current stats are.

We did it and it didn't work, we live on Cortisone as many of his allergens are things we can not control. That would be an option for us but my dog is not tolerant of cortisone he gets incontinent and very depressed. I heard there is something called cyclosporin that some people are using, wonder how successful it is. Yep Cyclosporin would be cool if you can afford it. For myself I can't afford that as well as the pain killers he would also need daily if he went off Cortisone as he has Osteo-Arthritis which the Cortisone masks most of the time. It would be over $100 a week for Cyclosporin and then add the pain killers to that for my size dog, he already costs close to $100 a week to feed a special diet to including supplementation...oh the fun of an allergic dog!
-
Didn't work for us, no change at all. We were on it for over a year. Other options: Would have to speak with your Derm, we're constantly doing elimination but said dog also lives on Cortisone now for quality of life.

If that "pet" ends up in an athletic performance sport and early desexing is linked to increased risk of HD and CL rupture (as has been suggested) then growing "slightly different" will matter a great deal. Tubal ligation will protect against unscrupulous breeding as effectively as a full ovo-hysterectomy. I haven't seen that in Giant Breeds desexed before full maturity, have you seen it in your breed? In Danes when desexed early they will be more leggy and slimmer generally.

We do Green Lipped Muscle Capsuals and MSM Powder, never looked back, my 10 year old Dane is doing wonderfully on it. -

Dante aquires new allergies every year, from what I understand that's pretty typical in allergic dogs. If you have been doing the injections for 1.5 years with no success I personaly would not continue with them, but best put that question to your Derm.

Very common, I wouldn't want a dog of my choosen breed with Dew claws.

Thanks heaps, I'll check them out.

This might help? The web site Chiaforhealth.com recommends giving chia seed or chia oil to the family pet for their health as well! For the health of cats and/or small dogs (under 25 pounds), SOAK 1/4 teaspoon a day and mix it with their food. For larger dogs soak 1 teaspoon per day and add to food. For big dogs soak 1 teaspoon twice daily and add to food. * CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH ... Soaking makes chia seeds easier for the body to digest and release the high levels of good-for-you nutrients. If you are using seeds dry, BE CAREFUL of the quantity you sprinkle on food without soaking. Chia seeds absorb 10 times their volume in water, both outside and inside the body. When using dry chia seeds, it is recommended to use only a teaspoon at a time and make sure you (or your children and/or animals) are well hydrated.

I think it's really important during times like this where human emotion can alter when our dogs go through these things to really enforce things like NILIF. Humans can easily pass their sympathy and grief onto dogs during these times which can definately effect the dogs behaviour. If you are worried about the dog though you could get a Vet check and confirm what the expectations of the dog settling into having less sight would be.

If both parents are stable in temperament you have a good start. Which each puppy comes a different temperament so this is where you would rely on your Breeder to help select a pup for you based on what temperament/personality you are looking for. I've heard people mention a fair few times that they'll always be the ADHD pup in the litter, how true that is I don't know.

My dog started to pace when he was young, we would always turn before we took off and if for some reason he started pacing again going around the ring we'd knock him off balance. Now, the reason my dog started when young was to be found out later....he had Osteo-Arthritis.
