  1. I have a Blackdog one, they're products are typically great so I don't know if I'm not using it correctly. Thanks for the offer, yeah, I think it might be too big, from memory the girth was 41cm and she's around 8 kilos so pretty small at the moment. However thinking about the reason I got it was so new families could use it without having to worry too much about technique...surely it can't be that hard? sas - I've got a Blackdog one as well. I found it to be more about technique than anything (which I still don't have completely right) - I was shown how to manipulate the leads by someone who uses harnesses a lot in t-touch. With the front lead, I was told to bring the lead more upwards than backwards if that makes sense. I was surprised at how very little pressure was required when you do it correctly. Sorry I can't help more. Bugger, if it requires tricky technique I might just go back to a check chain :D I'll see if I can find some youtube videos from the TTouch clan.
  2. Yeah I saw on some youtube videos some people clip to the collar on the same clip as the front ring on the harness. Others clipped it to the back ring which is what Blackdog instructions say to do, they say to use the clip on the dogs back as the break and the clip at the front as the steering, however pulling a dog back on a normal harness creates the opposite reaction so I'm not sure why that would work. I'll check the tightness ont he chest, from memory it seemed pretty spot on.
  3. I'm 100% for Petshops having a desex responsibility of animals they sell.

  5. Never quoted anyone saying judges are saints. Analysis and synthesis of the events and comments, together with a literal licence to post a point of view, are what forums are composed of. To put it another way, forums create the space for writers to be creative, or expressive, if that's what fits your muse. Do you have insecurities about your level of intelligence or is there another reason as to why you speak like that? It's okay Sas, he's a teacher and we is all dummies ;) or it could be the Nimbin air !!! fifi I have this hankering to reach for a plastic fork and stab myself in the eye ball.
  6. Is there a special technique I should be using? The packaging said to use a pulsating motion when the lead to the front clip when the dog pulled. Reading back over other front clipping harnesses, there's mention that their suitability for a paticular dog may be a problem, so I wonder if that is that case here. If I take a video would you be happy to comment?
  7. LOL Why am is it not working for an 8 kilo dog. I had a look on youtube for any training videos and we seem to be using it correctly. I'm a bit stumped!
  8. Hi Guys, I train via check chain or martingale with my foster dogs however when I hand them over to their new families training goes astray mainly I think because they need to develop good timing and so-forth, so... I thought I'd train foster dogs in the front clipping harness as you don't need a great deal of skill? So $70 later for a mini one for an 8 kilo puppy with the double connecting lead and I'm a bit pissed to tell you the truth. The harness was fit snug however everytime the puppy pulled the ring at the front of the harness simply slipped around to the side and offered absolutely no additional control....I liken the walk to the same as walking an untrained dog on a flat collar. Am I doing something wrong here? I'm using food and she was great for most of the walk but does start to pull on the stretch home, when she pulled she was not turned back into me as I thought would occur with the front clip?
  9. Contact your Council, you really do have to report it for your safety and for the safety of others, if you're worried about reporting it, just let the Ranger know what time of the day the dogs are usually out and ask them to drive down the street at that time. If your area isn't suitable for walking your pup, perhaps get in the car and go somewhere better.
  10. I would have been really annoyed if I were the jogger. You shouldn't let your dogs off lead if you don't have effective control of them.

  12. If you find any difference with pulling, let me know and I'll give one a shot. Akira is awful on lead. Actually, I should probably try one anyway and see if there's any improvement with her fear of men. Perhaps your dog just needs to be lead trained? Would you like me to list everything we've tried and what our obedience school has said about Akira's pulling? Even THEY have given up on her, yet she can walk perfectly on leash in our yard because there's nothing to overstimulate her. I am certain her problem is excitement, hence why trying to calm her down would probably be very useful. *Shrugs* you can be a smart ass if you want, doesn't really fix your problem does it.
  13. That depends on the cause of the itchies, some itchies can be soothed by luke warm water.
  14. I've seen lot's of Dane puppies with roached backs and they never outgrew them, if anything they got worse over time, that is if it were a conformation fault. Dogs roach their backs when they're in pain as well so mybe something to look into. Perhaps speak to your Vet and Chiro and see what their thoughts are. There are also the Breed specific forums on DOL that you could speak to other people within your breed.
  15. I've seen the method done properly and without stress to the dog....HOWEVER that's not what the video is about.
  16. What a bizare comment. Danois doesn't care if the dog is purebred, pedigree or Heinz variety. You make rather odd statements, I thought you were a well educated person or am I mistaking you with someone else?
  17. Desexing may be good in early stages but I dont know about "culling"puppies when they are born unless they have some terrible defects and a vet does it! This is cruel. If they are born then they are here and need attending to humanly and with care like any puppy regardless of breed or pedigree. I think this culling would be a terrible choice. I realise that the pups are unknown etc health wise but how many adopted dogs have long happy lives... a lot. If it has happened and is too late to desex then please care for these pups as anyone would with any litter and sell them to carefully selected homes for the price of the vaccinations, microchips and food. Its a lot of work but Im sure you will find great homes for these pups and have your girl desexed as soon as you can after she has had the puppies and they are weaned. I had an accidental breeding that I recieved some flack from on the forum and I do understood some of the reasoning for this, however there are some very very extreme comments on here from some people who are supposed to be animal lovers . If you care for animals and it sound like you do then dont cull at birth unless advised by a vet for medical reasons. Good luck with it all. The choice to let an unwanted pregnancy happen means that nice well temperaments dogs in the pound will loose their lives because someone was over emotional about not aborting a pregnancy that should never have been.
  18. Spot on, there is no need for supplementation 'generally' if you're on premimum kibble diet and your dog has no issues. What are te 'Supergreens' you mentioned? It is a concentrated powder of spirulina, wheat grass, chlorella and barley grass. Well then you do give your dogs supplementation when you said you don't.
