  1. We feed BARF - that is purchased, also add ACV and we still have burn patches.
  2. I say you need to get to the Vet, if the dog is having unproductive vomits there could be a bloackage.
  3. Every dog without medical/mental issues can be toilet trained, you'll just need to find a method that works, I personaly take them outside every hour whilst I'm home and then watch them like a hawk when they're inside. http://k9pro.com.au/ has an article/toilet training program on his site that is similar to what I use.
  4. I just started this last night *fingers crossed* it will assist in some form. It says to give on an empty stomach, wasn't sure exactly how to do that so just chucked it in his meal, what is your experience with it?
  5. Unfortunately not us, from my research you would only be seeing success supplementing with Zinc if the dog actually was deffcient in it, a dog on a balanced diet should be getting the minerals and trace elements it needs from its meal. No harm in trying though and glad you have had success. Skin disorders occur for a number of reasons, it a very complex problem.
  6. mmmm is Teflon known to cause any drastic reactions? I don't think so?
  7. Have a chat with a Behaviourist about it, this kind of aggression isn't suiitable for re-homing with another dog as they tend to just go out and attack another dog for touching or even looking at their toys and food. I'd be doing NILIF for sure and putting away the toys and only doing supervised play - toys shouldn't be a free for all anyhow. Feed seperate.
  8. Never heard of it so looked it up.... 2007 thread from this forum about it: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=115181
  9. If you're not doing anything wrong who cares. Someone who lives across the road from our park was taking photos of us, we weren't doing anything wrong so doesn't matter to me - some people are freaks. If you're out in a public place you kinda loose privacy, I mean a Journalist could take a photo and publish it online or in a paper as an editorial type thing. I think the situation is off but I really don't care that much if it's not an 'inappropriate' type of photo.
  10. Garlic is an old wives tail I think, the amount you need to give them to deter anything would most likely make the animal sick. No harm in trying the magnetic tag, you could affix it to a breakaway collar. I reccomend asking your Vet about increasing the Cetirizine. The Calendula spray could help with the irritation. Some people reccomend Plush Puppy Seabreeze Oil to deter ticks as a secondary method to their main tick prevention program.
  11. looking at the ingredient list i would suspect the beef components get it seized Yep! I've tried to bring stuff in before and it's been nabbed by Customs.
  12. I tried Dogade when it was around......didn't seem to do anything water didn't.
  13. Yeah that's the problem with any creams especially Paw Paw because it's a nice smelling/tasting one. You can make up some Black tea (5 bags per litre) pop it in the fridge and then apply, you can also make up Calendula Tea as well. Then pop to the Vets
  14. Our current Foster had Kennel Cough and we gave her Benadryl every 2 hours and it helped a great deal.
  15. I am attending her week long workshop and if we want her foundation notes we have to pay $50 - just a warning incase it's the same for you guys so that you can be prepared. I am sure they will be well worth it though. Ah, thanks for the heads up
  16. Done! Can you PM me your e-mail address Many thanks SAS You're inbox is full Oops, all cleared :p
  17. I'm totally bummed....I can't get to this workshop. Offering ticket free, be the first to post here - no pm's. It's just a listener spot - you can't take a dog. There is no ticket perse' you just go under my details which I'll send you via PM. Details I last recieved on e-mail: Thank you for booking in to attend Susan Garrett's workshop on 12 November 2010, organised by Hills District Kennel and Training Club Inc. The venue has changed - it will now be in the Harvey Lowe Pavilion Castle Hills Showground Book in time is from 8.15am to 8.45am. NO CHAIRS are needed with change of venue - they are now available to us. Morning and afternoon teas are provided. You will need to bring your own lunchIf you cant, Subway is 5 minutes away as well as a sandwich shop. We will have directions up for those shops in the entrance room of venue. We have a number of stall holders available for you to buy goods from and I have listed their web pages below for you to have a look at what they are bringing. They have suggested you pre order if there is something you know you want so it can be packed and waiting for you on the day. Please make a note on your order if it is to be picked up at Susan Garrett's conference. Susan is lecturing not demonstrating with dogs. Dogs cannot be brought into the building during the lecture. If you are bringing your dog they need to be outside in your car or a crated safely. There is some shaded areas in the showground but I cant guarantee how much shade is available. My advise would be if its possible your dog is best at home.
  18. LOL are people seriously debating whether a dog is cute or not?
  19. We always get comments and my boy does get a bit funny about it because people tend to yell out at him and he's a bit of an axious dog. The old girl is an old hand at it and loves the attention. Some of the common comments: "Look at the huge Dalmatian" "You could put a saddle on that thing" "Do you ride him?" "WOW look at the massive dog" "It looks like a Cow"
  20. We used to walk the dogs on a bike path in our last neighbourhood and people would always ring their bells as they approached - which was great because it means you can A) Get out of the way and B) Rein the dog in if need be. However if I had a dog that would take a bite out of someone in those situations I'd muzzle it, to me that's the responsible thing to do. I don't think it's appropriate what the owner said although I wonder if she was in shock and that's just the first thing that came out of her mouth.
  21. I don't want my house to smell like dog, it's not a pleasant smell even for dog lovers. Keep the dog bedding clean by weekly washes and OOST or Glen 20 Fabrics like Sofas and Curtins if things are really bad or invest in a steam cleaner to avoid chemicals. If you have Carpets hire the Carpet cleaner from Woolies every 3 months. Those are my tips.
  22. Loads of dogs are actually allergic to it, interesting huh, especially as it's meant to be good for skin Yeh. I didn't know that. Kasie is doing well on it. Between the diet and extra grooming lately, she's so shiny she's dazzling! WOOHOO! Pleased it's doing its' job!
  23. Some dogs have allergies so bad that they need Prednisolone for short periods of time and sometimes permanently, my dogs life is sometimes a misery because of his allergies and without using some form of cortisone he would have probably been in a lot more discomfort to the point where I would rather put him to sleep then see him suffer like that. Agree, my dog suffered terribly with his allergy and I think it's a bit ignorant to think that all allergies can be managed effectively in a short time frame without steroids. My boy pretty much itched 24 hours a day even with "management" including Aloveen baths, keeping him off grass, antihistamines, etc. He didn't sleep at night, he had an Elizabethan collar on for weeks straight, he had weeping hotspots. Sorry, but cortisone was a lifesaver for us so that he could actually act like a somewhat normal dog for a little while. I don't think some people understand that in some dogs the allergies are hell and in others the allergies are minor - there's always people here who thing that what worked for their dog should work for others and just because they've been able to keep their dog off Cortisone others should be able to - mind you I've read some very sad stories on threads like this from owners who refuse to use Cortisone whilst their dog suffers. I'd rather my dog have a shorter happy life span than a horrible misserable one. Although there are many dogs that have been on Cortisone all their lives and lived normal life spans, one just hopes that you can find the most minimal dose to keep the dog on that isn't immune suppressant.
