How Long Do You Wait To Know That A Food Change Isn't Working?
sas replied to megan_'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't think I can handle the poos that long! The odd thing is that my boy used to do so well on EP Holistic, but I think they've changed the formula. I think you have to go with what your gut says. I think people can swap and change too often without giving enough time though, but in the end they're your dogs and you know whats best. I know my dog can take 8 weeks to give me a good look in at what is happening with a feed change. -
We have recently changed from Barf to Black Hawk and feed exclusively BH only. My boy doesn't get bones due to a recent operation to remove a blockage. I personaly trial foods straight up without additions for 8 weeks to get a feel for it and then you can start mucking about with additions, mind you I have an allergic dog so we do things a bit differently. Most of the time when people add supplements to a dogs feed they aren't doing any good because alot of supplements cancel out other supplements, you have to actually be scientific about it and know what depletes what and what are the correct dossage rates so to me if you can find a feed with everything in it already and not add supplementation where possible you're on the right track.

Why would anyone apologise? What was shown on the video regardless of whether it was edited to appear bad is what people commented on.

Yeah, I'm not sure about her being a large dog. Definately a medium when adult I would say, here's her with my Danes at 5.5 months and you can see how small she is. obviously a teacup dane OH! I could sell her for thousands! Damn...she was desexed yesterday

Did you purchase your puppy from a Breeder that you can call and ask them? If not, take your puppy to the Vet for them to check. Most dogs shed but they don't just loose hair like that.

We're 100% BH - 1 week in, very minor gas from the allergic dog, stools look pretty good, the old girls are slightly softer than normal although early days. We're seeing some higher energy levels. It is pretty small, although I'm not finding the Dane gulping it down, they're enjoying it rather than just inhaling - maybe the small size helps this in an odd way?!

With our allergic boy we give new feeds 8 weeks. -
Any reason why those nails can't be clipped right back or has the quick extended all the way down? I wouldn't be suprised if he's licking his feet because they bloody hurt with those talons. He could be itching due to an irritation. Why can he not see a Vet today or tomorrow?

Just out of curiousity, why do they think the dog is escaping? Because it can? Because it's lonely? because it has seperation anxiety? etc etc
-
I don't really care what training tool / aid people use as long as it is suitable for the dog and it means the owners actually walk their dogs. Teaching a dog to heel is one of the most common complaints from pet owners, many savvy dogs owners find it very easy to train where-as others struggle with it and if they struggle too much they won't walk the dog.

My best guess would be that she's got Dane, Greyhound or Whippet and something else in there! Nice Rottie by the way. I lubs Rotties. No Dane from what I can see.

Sounds like your dog 'could' be showing signs of seperation anxiety, if this is the case your dog probably will not be interested in eating whilst you're not home. It's up to you if you provide your dog with a pigs/deer/sheeps ear etc. they are 'generally' suitable for dogs who chew their food and don't gulp. You'll want to choose a product that is processed here in Australia and is air dried and not chemically treated. http://shop.ebay.com.au/tracey6230/m.html Could I perhaps suggest you speak to a Behaviourist about handling seperation anxiety? There are a few Behaviourists and Trainers form VIC on DOL so someone should be able to assist you. I'd reccomend you get a referral from your Vet to a Dermatologist. You should be getting medication advice i.e. Zyrtec/Phenegan from your Vet. If the Calensula and the Anti-histimines work that is awesome, if they don't and your dog is suffering then IMO you need to go back to your Vet and get suitable medication.

Getting Puppy To Sleep Not On The Bed Help Please :)
sas replied to kitkatswing's topic in Puppy Chat
If he's going to be an outside dog that is where he should be now....start how you mean to go on. Why can't the dog be an inside/outside dog? A wee mistake there.....don't pick the pup up when it's having a tantrum because then the dog learns that tantrums work. Please don't let the dog on the bed and get used to a life of being close to it's owners and luxuries of sleeping on the bed if you're just going to put it outside to live, that's pretty mean and confusing. That doesn't make it right. What exactly is the point of having a dog if it lives outside? Dogs are 'companion' animals. -
That answer would depend on so many variables. I think you should ask your Vet for a referral to a Derm before you start spending money on diets that you hope will help when they may make it worse because you don't know what your dog is allergic/intolerable to.

No gas here, all the dogs are doing well on it so far, early days. Hoping it will assist with allergy boy.

Koolie is on their list of breeds that they can identify though. Not sure if I can post the link? This is interesting for me, as we have done the BITSA test as a bit of fun for our pound puppy. They rang to confirm the dogs name and advise that they were putting the results in the mail that day, apparently they can't email or phone the results through. I still haven't received the results three weeks later! And I can't get anyone to return my calls or emails....anyway if they aren't here after Christmas I'll be taking it further. A bit of fun has turned into a horror, although after reading this thread, I wonder if the 30kg puppy will come back as a toy poodle?! Mine took about 4 weeks and I chased it up and no one returned e-mails. We also did it for shits and giggles...expensive but has been an 'interesting' experience.

mmm how I interpret it is that Rotti is the only breed it's able to clearly indentify, any of the other breeds are way distant however could be incorrect due to simialr traits or something like that. She is just a pup at the moment so still another 6 months of growth to go so it will be interesting to see what she turns out like.
-
Just a quick question abotu the Koolie....the Koolie isn't a registered breed so the labs don't have their DNA marker anyway so they would not have come back as Koolies anyway. Just a thought?

Meet Angel.... Shown here at approx. 5 months old (approx 5.5 kilos). Pound said her owners stated that the Dad was a Mastiff and the Mum was a Rotti x Staffy (You can't really rely on the owners mind you). Attached is her Bitsa. AR_M550U_20101220_155233.pdf

Idiot, they're not being loyal to their owner, they're dog aggressive.
-
Probably because everyone has already stated how they feel about the topic in general...no one feels the need to single any one person out Rightio......that would be a new one for DOL and show people.
-
Ignoring in the sense if it is attention seeking behaviour - you'll need to decide if that is what it is. I wouldn't be giving the dog food whilst its' barking - you're rewarding the behaviour. If you're not sure how to issue a correction and whether or not it is fearful behavour then you'll want to probably have a session with someone who does.
