  1. thanks for that link Erny I have been googling and reading but hadn't seen that particular one. The vet did explain the seniors diets though they are not always low in protein they have extra anti oxidents. I already feed Cindy on a senior supercoat which he assured me has all the right stuff in. The seniors he told me interestingly have these anti oxidents because Hills researched that the old timers in dogs was the same or similar to the adult version which was put to use in humans and works as well with dogs. All senior diets for dogs now add the stuff. So make sure you all get these anti oxidents ( whatever or where ever they are  ) Thanks for the good wishes. I am so very worried still, she has never been so quiet in her life.
  2. My old girl went to kennels for the last week and we rushed home yesterday as the kennels called us that she wasn't too well. She wasn't eating, was listless, peeing a lot, wet and smelly round her nether regions and just generally not too happy, no waggy tail which in a goldie is unheard of. I took her to the emergency vet and fortunately it was the boss who is also our old neighbour. He looked at everything and as her temp is high and she isn't eating he diagnosed a kidney infection rather than a lower tract. We have a kick start antibiotic injection, a hormone injection and a week of antibiotics. I need to also get a urine sample to him tomorrow. I do feed her on mature supercoat, chicken carcass, necks and beef bones. She likes some vegies. I am wondering if there are any kidney diet suggestions to help keep her on track once we have this illness beaten. I was pretty stressed that she was so wet, she has dysplasia, since she was a pup. I did all I could for her and I was so worried her back end was going. Not the case thank God. I am following all of Ernys thread too but any suggestions will be greatfully accepted. She looks so sad right now, and pongy I will wash her later when she feels a bit better.
  3. I am so sorry for you it is a rotten situation for you to feel like that at training. I didn't realise that this was happening regularly I really thought it was maybe being a rescue just wanting his own space from you to settle in and feel comfortable. Anxious dogs really do need to be left to approach you, if you ignore they approach. Sorry I am not explaining this too well. You need to call your trainer and ask for help, soon. If you don't feel that you are comfortable with your trainers assistance then speak to the head trainer. I guess you are at a club? If you don't get any satisfaction or help then call your vet and see if they can suggest someone in your area who maybe does a little one on one to maybe, just maybe use a clicker. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
  4. so what did you do?what did he do? and what advice does the trainer offer you? Dogs growl at training, dogs bark at training, dogs run off and all sorts of combinations happen at training. That is why they are there. So who doesn't like the growling? you? the person next to you? make your margin more than 2 metres to a comfort point. Your trainer? ask them for help. tassie that is a great article, I love her stuff cheers
  5. ignore it for 2 weeks, no response nothing because he thinks you like it if you respond, he loves you, if you shout at him tis ok, he loves you anyway and he got some attention for it. What a great game. Just try ok? oh and make sure he isn't sore under his tummy when you lift him
  6. always and forever in your hearts he was a very lucky boy to be loved so well running free now with many I have loved
  7. I use home made liver treats and home made crispy chicken. I have a mate who buys some small roll of food which is sliced to train her great dane, when training is over she shares her treats with us humans beautiful stuff, some sort of sausage.

  12. I didn't see it but voted for 'our dogs' anyway good luck
  13. I did cry and I only watched the first video. I will be happy when there is no more of this type of training in this country, fight your own ruddy battles, poor dogs, kicked and beaten. This really is low class sport. Are people such cowards that they need to hide behind a dog? I guess so huh. will say no more have said my piece. I am shocked and very very unhappy.
  14. lablover I am at day 2 and loving it, retrieve dogs are amazing just a pity about all the ads at the start, but the Americans do love their messages
  15. excellent :D would love to see photos. keep up the good work
  16. so sorry MM run free now Mack
  17. If you go outside each time he barks you are conditioning him to bark. Barking is bringing a response. Bring him into the laundry for a few nights anyway to break the cycle, make sure he has a comfy bed outside, that he has a bit of a house to go into with a roof on, cave like or a big kennel and that he likes it. The kennel will deaden the sound of whatever it is, probably a dog barking somewhere. You do need to break the cycle... laundry room...
  18. well done to you both and thanks for the link, I loved it
  19. course I will vote for you but please give a reminder a couple of days before
  20. what poodlefan said that way you don't upset anyone and you don't want to because your new best friend could be at the handlers end of the leash, could be someone who is just overwhelmed.
  21. I really really wish he had come to Perth I am so jealous of you all. Was speaking to a chap tonight from Adelaide he said a few from his club had gone and enjoyed the seminar.
  22. and I wash my mals hot spots with bicarb. No rice. Fresh chickenneck & carcas, beef bones not a lot of kibble I use supercoat, the regular one. if she gets anything else or scraps by accident by a well meaning visitor we have problems. I am going to try the listerine and the aloe if it works we have a huge aloe plant in the garden and always have listerine here.
  23. this is a great favourite with kids they laugh and love it, great for displays.
