Feeding A Raw Diet, Without Bones?
minimax replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Slightly OT, but not really as it could be helpful to the OP - could you chop up frames and mince/crush them in the moulinex? We're looking to get a mincer, as the mincer attachment for my KitchenAid is only plastic and won't do bone but whenever we get has to be able to at least do chicken frames without having a meltdown. -
I'd never buy something labelled as pet mince, no matter how cheap it was My dogs get human grade meat.
-
Yep, we have a chest freezer just for dog meat.

Belmore Park is in the city, so if you google maps it then it should tell you distance and driving time etc -
Feeding A Raw Diet, Without Bones?

You could feed BARF patties - I make my own with various minces, some apple/banana/carrot/zuchini, flaxseed and coconut oil. You can also get mined chicken frames which contain the chicken bone, but minced (obviously lol) so that the goodness is eaten without any dangers of injury. -
Geez dancinbcs, lucky I always chop mine up I never knew that. Thanks for the "heads up". I didn't know that, I'll ask the OH to have a look tonight. My pugs get half a frame each, every night. Usually with a few beef chunks too, they are 12kg and 7kg. Although the older one would happily eat a full one each night!

Yep, Lenerds are awesome! The first time I went there I had no idea how much they were as they were out the back with no signs. She said $5 and I said uh, what? I had a $20 note out ready and wasn't expecting her to say $5 I reckon if they didn't need to put something through the till they'd just give them away. $5 for what quantity? As said upthread - anywhere between 20 or 30 (and I ask for 20, always end up with more)
-
I get mine from Lenards too, but I pay $11 for five kilos. I'm still trying to figure out if this is a good deal, though yours sounds WAY better! I don't weigh mine - how many do you normally get in 5kg? I go to Lenerds at Gladesville for mine.

Yep, chicken bones are fine for any pup, just supervise closely the first few times to see how they eat it and if you need chunk it down a bit to start off with. They might take forever to eat them though (depending on the breed). Also depending on breed they might not need a whole frame just yet.

I get mine from Lenerds Chickens - 20 or 25 frames for $5 (they just chuck them in the bag, sometimes it's more like 30)

Plus you can make some good nicknames out of it! Naturally, I'm sure looney would be one of them

It gets a bit confusing if multiple people post, how about you stick to the original format of the winner gets to post a new pic? (I know I'm not playing, I'm too stupid to know any of these, but I'm following the thread  )

Well done, Pickles That little dog has truckloads of spirit, which would be a great 'teacher'. BTW, I was just told about a Psychology Clinic in Victoria where therapy dogs are an option for sessions, especially with children and young people: http://www.ltw.com.au/psychology.php I once read a researcher's comment, re the wonderful benefits dogs have been found (with hard evidence) to bring people of all kinds & of all ages & needs. He said that if dogs were a medication, it'd be hailed as a wonder drug. With no side effects, either. :) I take my puppy to therapy with me sometimes, even when people see him in the waiting room with me they smile and ask if they can say hi and he's a really licky boy so always makes people laugh. Puppies, or dogs, are great therapy, even for grown-ups!

Yay! I vote for Pond :D What is on your shortlist? Haha more of a long list! No particular order... Amelia Pond (doctor who reference) Lilly / Tigerlilly (just like it) Odette (swan princess) Luna (sailor moon) Serena (see above) Rose (my daughters suggestion) Periwinkle (tinkerbelle sister) Sweetie Belle (my little pony) Seraphina and Ophelia I love but I know probably too long for a pup. All of them are cute ... you could always wait till you meet her and see what suits her? Just remember you have to call it out in public, like at the park, so something like Periwinkle or Sweetie Belle could get a bit embarrasing

Often their personalities change a little when they are away from their littermates, especially if he will be an only puppy. Although most puppies are monsters anyway :p

No apology required. However, as the law stands there is nothing I'm aware of precluding a person from having a picnic in a dog park. There are often, however, plenty of council regulations preventing dogs from entering picnic areas, playgrounds, school grounds etc. While people continue to pay rates and dogs don't, I'd not expect that situation to change. The fact that something is ignorant, stupid or rude doesn't change the fact that folk can do it. My local dog park has a cafe in it, people sit at the tables and chairs in the middle of the dog park and eat & drink - last weekend I watched one beagle come up and steal a piece of toast of a ladies plate whilst she was busy talking to her dining companion. Everyone around saw it (the owner did call the dog and rush over, he was just wasn't fast enough) and cracked up laughing, she looked a bit bewildered and embarrased, but didn't seem to mind. She understood she was in the middle of a dog park! I wouldn't sit on the ground and eat, but it's nice to sit and have a coffee while the dogs play.

Whilst on the other hand, your comments are being extremely helpful :) Not

They really aren't that big, and there are better solutions for long term confinement (puppy gates blocking off rooms etc I'd your outside isn't suitable ) The compost gates are really light, even my pugs can knock them over.

Down from what though? The OP hasn't given any quantities of any food stuffs. Folks are quick to jump in with increase this or decrease that with almost no information. Down from oats for breakfast every day...

Dusty, the super friendly Kelpie is in need of a new home. She's 5 years old, is great with kids and loves playing and being entertained. She's mostly an inside dog and is desexed. She is being re-homed as the owners have two kelpies and they are fighting a lot - although this one isn't the instigator of the fights, the other is the "grumpy" one  Dusty is located in the Shire (Sydney), if you want more info PM me and I'll forward you the owners email or phone number. Thank you

No one is saying they need to go grain free, just cut down.
