  1. I have done some real doozies over the years, I used to try & groom them out, but not any more, "Sorry not my fault your lazy", all over with a 7, sometimes 10 or 30 blade. I have found that the "Oodles" are indeed the worse, because of the rubbish they are told to get them sucked into buying them in the first place, most have never seen a brush. The best one's are the one's who "only want a little bit off" yeah right !!!!!!! Usually it is a number 10 all over & then they have the nerve to complain, I am afraid after grooming for so long my "nicenest" has all run out. Worst dog I ever did was a OOdle that was flyblown, maggots were eating the poor dog, I was furious!!!!!! Poor thing was screaming in pain, so as I said I will not mince words anymore, I would rather loose clients than put up with that s##t.
  2. Our thoughts are with you, fly free little one's, your mum will watch over you.
  3. We are off for a ultrasound this afternoon, so fingers crossed for us
  4. I certainly wouln't wait until tommorow to have seen a vet, I would have gone straight away, it must be agony for him, left they can do alot of damage to the ear drum.
  5. Fingers crossed here too for babies around Xmas

MTD My heart is breaking for you, I know how much you loved her & she you. RIP Grand old lady, I hope those bunnies have got their running shoes on. I was saving this poem for a special time, but I would love to share it with you now. I have done mostly what most would do, And pushed it out of my mind; But I can't forget, if I wanted to, Four-Feet trotting behind. Day after day, the whole day through -- Wherever my road inclined -- Four-feet said, "I am coming with you!" And trotted along behind. Now I must go by some other round, -- Which I shall never find -- Somewhere that does not carry the sound Of Four-Feet trotting behind.
  7. I am very sorry to gear of your tragic loss, take care & be kind to yourself.
  8. We finally have answers to Boris's nerotic behaviour, blood results have confirmed he has this condition, so now he will be on Oroxine for the rest of his life, I am really hoping it starts making him feel better soon. Has anyone else had this ??, the vet is confident we should start seeing a change in him very soon. So now we have a ritual in the mornings, Misty has her 3 heart meds & Boris his thyriod, & then again at night time. I am pleased we have some answers but also sad that he is now on meds forever. Thank god I work for a vets, couldn't afford not too at the moment
  9. To you and Mark, such a sad time for you all, hopefully the other doggies will help ease some of the pain you both feel right now I am sure she did have a grand life.
  10. Nothing a 10 blade wouldn't fix. As a groomer I get sooooo angry with alot of Oddle owners that think because they have spend $thousands on purchasing these mutts, that they can just expect their coats not to matt. GAWD what do they really expect ????????
  11. QUESTIONS 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) I have owned, bred, showed, trialled, tracked & did endurance with Cockers for 16 years. 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? Cockers were bred as flushing dog for Woodcock. Originally the cockers came from Water & Land Spaniels, it was common to register different breeds from the one litter, depending on how they grew, as pups they could be shown as a Cocker /Sussex if they grew too big they were shown as Springer Spaniels. 3. How common is it in Australia? Cockers are very popular in Aust, which in the 70's & 80's was the breeds downfall, with so many people breeding indescriminatley, everyone wanted a gold cocker & very little thought was put into type & temprement, with alot of inbreeding happening. The dedicated breeders have worked very hard to bring the breed back to the loving, happy, bustling little dog it is now. 4. What is the average lifespan? Cockers generally will live 14-16 years 5. What is the general temperament/personality? Merry, Merry, Merry, always waggy bum. They can tend to be a little dominate if allowed. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? Cockers are just as happy running on 20 acres or curled up on the couch. 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? Absolutely, provided they do the training, Cockers have a tendancy to give you "The look", so a firm hand is needed with training. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? Yes, so long as you are prepared for Total destruction, they do better with a playmate. 9. How much grooming is required? It is essential to keep the airflow to the ears clear, & the feet need trimming often. A good brush daily, however some prefer to have them clipped off. There are alot of good websites to help new owners. 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? Cocker are generally a very calm happy dog, and when trained correctly make a fabulous childs mate. 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? The most important problem that can occur in Cockers is FN or HN, Familiar Nephritis, is a kidney disease which will generally kill them at a young age, since DNA testing has come in it is helping some breeders try to eliminate this problem, however there are still some cases popping up, any dog which has produced affected puppies of ANY kidney problem should be removed from any breeding program immediatley. The other problem is PRA - Progressive Retinal Atrophy, which is a condition where the dogs MAY go blind, it is a very painful condition, but thankfully again since DNA testing came in it is not seen as much anymore. 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) When purchasing a Cocker, IMO Both parents MUST be clear for FN, but I know alot of breeders do use Carriers in their breeding program, but I wouldn't, no matter how good the dog.
  12. Do you really think they are from a "breeder", I doubt it very much.
  13. wildat heart, you can use frontline for dogs & cats, we just simple don't endorse it, just in case I guess. Crisovar it does matter where you buy it from, there is noone at the supermarket that is going to tell the people NOT to use the products on cats.
  14. The flea treatments that people use are the Exelpet ones from the supermarket, they contain pyrethin, which is highly toxic to cats, they go into convolsions & it poison them, not alot survive as people don't realise. Frontline & Advantage can be used but we do not recommend it. Sorry for spelling
  15. We had yet another kitten bought in today in that we had to PTS, poor thing was in a really bad way & there was nothing we could do to help it. BLOODY supermarkets shouldn't be allowed to sell it, or people need to learn to read. Makes me so angry, all to save a few $$$$$
  16. How old was Seth Biker Girl ??? I have had 2 Llacfarra GSD's, they were truely lovely dogs. Pity there will never be anymore !!!!!!

  18. 4 Paws, I gave Boris the C/Silver internally, seemed to work for him.
  19. My Boris has a auto immune disease, it is called Pemphigus Follicailous, his nose isn't cracked but he has lost the pigment on it & broke out in pus scabs all over his body. A biopsy of the scab sent to a skin specialist soon confirmed this, the vet wanted to put him on Cortisone, but I wasn't really happy about this so I went to see a herbal vet who made him up a "Potion" & also gave him accuptunture, That was 3 years ago, and apart from him being neorotic his physical symptoms have all gone. Fish oil & Colliodial Silver were my savour.
  20. Hi Westie mum. I have just been through this with Misty, & i think it is reaccuring thing. She has had it on & off for several years. We have done all the drugs avaible, as each infection she has had has been a different strain & they are resistant to different drugs. It is important that each infection is diagnosed & treated as they do tend to be different. So It is really worthwhile to keep having the ear swabbed to see the effect on the rotten little bugs the treatment is having. Our last treatment was Trizeta & Baytril which cleared it up in about 2 weeks This time it has been Trizeta & Dermotic & Macrolone, same infection but different strain, hence different treatment. Hope this makes sense, still asleep this morning. editted to add, just read Rappie's post & yes that is what i was trying to say.
  21. A grade 2 seems fairly low to be starting on meds, what tablets did they give you ? Misty has a grade 5/6 & has just started on meds, which have made a huge difference to her life. Good luck.
