  1. Tundra playing with his puppies at 4 weeks old - wasn't sure what he'd think of them but he absolutely loves them.
  2. Despite my boss being a complete bitch and all Haha, maybe time for desexing ;) Lol! I'm the boss......it's my own business! Hahaha, I figured it was either that or the dog 50/50
  3. Despite my boss being a complete bitch and all Haha, maybe time for desexing ;)
  4. Blinkblink I love that set up!! And that's at work!? So cool that they let you take your dog!
  5. Are you wanting it inside or outside? If you've got it outside you could use a building structure (verandah post as mentioned above) or hammer in some steel pickets and wire it to them :) If inside could just tie it to a chair or a table? Tying it to a dog crate is a fantastic idea though!!
  6. Very disappointing I love German Shepherds. These are just wrong. Why are these what breeders are striving for? The front looks a bit ridiculous to be perfectly honest - that big flick up like a Hackney horse. They're a working dog! And don't need to even mention the ridiculous topline on them.
  7. Yeah righto, I see what you're getting at. Sorry, last night I was in a bit of a "hell to the wind!!" mood (and had had a few glasses of wine ) so I get a bit silly. Haha! Yes they kept trying to pat him while I was trying to calm him down (he was 8 months old at the time and had been confined to a car for a lot of the trip). I don't mean to say that rescue dogs are less loved (I can see how it seems like that), it's more that suggesting he must be a rescue (motley coat & no tail I guess?) when in my mind he couldn't possibly ever be a rescue because he was excitedly awaited from his very conception (I assume the breeder would be excited about every single puppy!). I get so nervous about going to places with my dogs because I always get asked so many questions about them. I feel like I could say less about them but I probably end up saying more than they wanted to know...when I say that they're Australian Shepherds, then have to say it's actually an American herding breed (because it's usually "Oh, like German Shepherds?), then I have to say but mine don't actually herd they're bred to be show dogs and then I get a funny look like "Ooh la-di-dah your dogs are show dogs" When all I literally mean to say is that mine are basically useless except for looking pretty because I don't know how to teach them to herd OMG Denali I've said something along those lines of your third dot point more to close friends than complete strangers and I'm pretty sure it was in context to a conversation about dogs & breeding...
  8. I just think there are better ways to ask what breed a dog is. I mean if I came across a Xolo I wouldn't instantly say OMG what happened to his hair did it all get shaved off because he was matted & not cared for?????? That's seriously how it came across - they were all sympathetic/worried for my dog who is clearly very well loved (ok so maybe we had stopped in Caiguna on our way across Australia for dinner a couple of days earlier and he'd gotten a bit dirty on the fresh bitumen but still) and it just rubbed me up the wrong way. A barrage of questions without waiting for answers isn't very polite - and jumping to "rescue" after I'd said he was from a breeder was just confusing because she clearly chose not to listen when I said we got him from his breeder at 8 weeks old.
  9. Yeah the second post was very different in tone to the first one. Just in regards to the part of my comment you quoted, what I mean by that is, you'll probably find that showies don't have their dogs/horses washed and perfect all the time. I personally don't have the time or energy to keep all my animals perfect 100% of the time and wouldn't expect anyone else to either. I mean keeping them groomed enough to stop any long-term mats or tangles setting in is a must, but I wouldn't go as far as forbidding my dogs from swimming in the dam if they must I think part of it is that pedigree breeders don't find the need to advertise anywhere besides Dogzonline (or other similar mediums that are specifically for registered breeders) and if buyers don't know they're there they won't look. Therefore the buyer will see a cute little crossbreed and not realise there's a similar breed out there that may suit their family even better AND actually grow up how it's supposed to. And maybe people with pedigree animals are snobby, but I've found 'rescue fans' are probably worse - my husband and I were in a Petstock with Tundra (blue merle bob-tail Australian Shepherd, to set the scene) and the questions they asked were, "Aw where did you get him? (a breeder) What's he crossed with? (he's pure Australian shepherd) Oh, is he a rescue? (...no...) Is he a rescue because his tail was docked? (.........no??? He was born like that?????)" Like holy crap, no my dog was very purposely bred, he's never known a situation he needs "rescuing" from and NO he was born without a tail! And if my shocked expression came across as snobbery well maybe it was & I was pretty offended that my well-loved dog was accused of being a rescue Sorry I've gone on a tangent, but it's not only the "showies" or pedigree people who come across as snobby!!
  10. Could it possibly be a way of marking due to sexual maturity?
  11. I'm not sure what you mean by not trusting the adult dog...many mature dogs that come from a loving home but are surrendered to rescue quickly learn who their new family is. I've got 2 dogs who I got as adults and they very quickly adopted us as their humans. No different to my dog who I got as an 8 week old puppy :)
  12. Would a Boston terrier be within budget & still have the "look" you're going for? I agree with the others that a puppy wouldn't suit. They are mental, yes they sleep a lot but when they're awake they are a flurry of teeth and destruction and horror, and let's not forget the poo An older dog that's got the housetraining and a bit of training (like not jumping up/licking) would be your best bet.
  13. Backwards snobbery at its best. Bizarre how people who aren't into the whole "show scene" look down their noses at those who pour all their passion, money and time into presenting the perfect specimen for someone to judge. It's the same in the horse world. There are always people who look down on people who prefer to clip their horse in winter, put rugs on it to keep it clean & even those who shoe their horses. Everyone has different ways, usually most show people don't give a flying toss about how "non-showies" keep their horses or dogs.
  14. Can I dream with you? I'm hoping that too. But from my observations, people don't get it I'm friends on FB with a girl, who's got herself a boyfriend (who knows how long this one will last), and they've got themselves a blue Am staff thing for it to have puppies. That's fine, I get it, people get sucked into the "rare" colours thing, but then their friends were commenting suggesting body building supps for the puppy already? And asking how big the sire was (in kg) etc.? It was the weirdest thing I've ever witnessed. to do with dogs anyway. My SIL was telling me about two pitbulls she had about a decade ago, they were brought up with humans, inside, cushy life, they'd go out horseriding with her and lived on a farm, were very loved, well-socialised, went to horse shows - the works - she did everything right. At 4 and 6 years of age, they started attacking and killing things. I don't want to say specific details but they weren't afraid of taking on a riding pony stallion My dog Robo was also attacked by an entire staff/mastiff X, purely for being an entire male - I know for a fact Robo wouldn't have shown any aggression or dominance as he was usually submissive (15 month Aussie Shepherd vs 3-4 year old arsehole) and the other dog needed a few boots to the head to let go. I have had a couple of scraps at home where the dogs work out the pecking order and normally a loud growl is enough to stop them! My biggest fear when I see a big dog with the big jaws (sorry bully people, but yes your dogs have big jaws and yes they will know how to use them) is that IF it takes a dislike to my dog, my dog will always come off second best. So hearing stories about these dogs roaming the streets and being so good at escaping and basically everything about them fairly scares me.
  15. Are all of these ANKC recognised? I've only seen piebalds in working lines/unregistered so I wondered if it was allowed.
  16. wrt 2.19 - setting the thresholds at 8 years: shouldn't this threshold depend on the breed?...8 years is pretty old for e.g. a great dane or dogue de bordeaux...?... I think they're assuming that a registered, ethical breeder isn't going to just go ahead and breed an aged dog. Maybe you should write to them if you're so worried about it There are also plenty of breeds that are middle-aged or at least not too old to have puppies at 8 years of age. Especially a dog that's made an excellent mother & is healthy. It would be a shame to cut off dogs any earlier even if they're perfectly healthy. (By plenty of breeds I'm thinking of smaller breeds and some medium sized breeds, I know an Aussie bitch who had a litter at 8 years old - very healthy girl and an excellent mother). You can't regulate every single decision a breeder makes. And a veterinary certificate means that a vet considers a dog fit to breed. Another note, breeding dogs can be a time-sensitive exercise. Sometimes you'll only have access to certain bloodlines that you want to mix with a certain bitch, by then it may mean she's a bit older...it's good that there is a way to get permission through a vet certificate if necessary.
  17. Dogswest 2.16 A member shall not breed with a bitch unless the bitch has reached adequate maturity for thatbreed as determined by the member’s Member Body. The minimum breeding age for bitchesacross all breeds is twelve (12) months at the time of mating. Except in extenuatingcircumstances or with the approval of Governing Council prior to the mating, a member shallnot breed from any bitch causing it to be mated before it is twelve months of age. 08/14 2.17 A member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp either;  more than twice in eighteen months or  more than twice in three successive heat seasonswithout the prior approval of the member’s Member Body. 2.18 A member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp more than six times without prior veterinarycertification of fitness for further breeding, and without prior approval of the member’s MemberBody. Breeders that wish to breed a seventh (7th) litter must attach to the litter registration form, written veterinary certification of fitness for further breeding, dated prior to the date of themating. Under no circumstances will the registration of an eighth litter be permitted. CAWA ‘H’ Regulations effective 1 January 2000, latest amendment December 2015 5It is the responsibility of the current owner to verify the number of litters a bitch may have hadprior to their ownership of said bitch. The 7th litter in question is to be registered, subject to receipt by the office of any applicablepayments and a copy of the veterinary certificate which clearly identifies the registered dam asbeing sterilized. 4/01, 6/02, 3/04, 09/05, 06/06 08/11 2.19 All bitches eight years of age and over at the time of a mating must have a current veterinarycertificate stating that the bitch is in good health at the time of breeding. This certificate must bepresented at the time of registration of the litter resulting from this mating. A current veterinarycertificate is defined as being within three months prior to the mating. (ANKC BOD 10/11)
  18. I don't have much to add, my local vet is very cruisy and I don't get any mail from the vet I use in Perth :) (although I have only just updated my mailing address...). Cowanbree that is truly awful terrible 'bedside manner' and customer service You would think there would be someone who can work their system to stop those painful notifications from being sent out!!
  19. I've had a few dogs that have come to live with me whether temporarily or have become permanent and generally they make themselves right at home. There is the odd one that will bolt if given half the chance, but they happened to be of the same breeding. I have a bitch here who had just turned 2 when she got here, she's settled right in and I'm her favourite human. She took a while to warm to my husband because she hasn't had much exposure to men. I also rehomed another bitch as a 4 year old, they would be her fourth home (I only had her as a foster & to get her desexed) but they love her and she gets super spoilt and is finally getting the love she deserves. She was a bit funny about the wooden floors in our house, but happily hung out in the yard or inside the house with no fuss. Loved attention. I had a BC who would freak if you threw a ball for him (when I first got him I threw a toy and he hit the deck as though I had just beaten him) - never been hit with anything or beaten - just a ridiculously fearful dog, had been born like it then not socialised for the first 3 years of his life so never learned to cope with anything. The number of times I got asked if he'd been abused when I took him out for walks was so embarrassing.
  20. Wow That's not nice. They look nothing like the breed standard says they should look. Why they are veering from the standard, I don't know.
  21. Either most winners do or not all people who own & handle their dog bred the dog.
  22. Love that GSP so gorgeous. Definitely not fat, I doubt you'd put all that effort into breeding and preparing a dog to get to Westminster and not have it in tip top shape!!
  23. I had normal pups and a cleft palate boy - he was running around way earlier, I think about 2.5 weeks, because he was a lot smaller and lighter than the fat slugs in his litter I would guess the lighter build of your bubs would let them get up and running around earlier. My Aussies didn't open their eyes until 2 weeks (give or take) whereas I've been told of Border Collies that open their eyes at 6 days!!!
  24. Are you trying to say that crossbreeding should be allowed ? Because the whole point of having breeds is predictability. I don't want people to be breeding registered crossbreeds and then trying to show them against my registered purebreds? Then who's going to support crossbred shows? Maybe make a different register and system for crossbreeds as they're being bred toward a predictable "breed" but don't muddy it up into actual breeds. If that's not what you're meaning then I give up.
