  1. It can be a side effect of prednisolone treatment that a dog experience amended behaviour. How long was this drug prescribed and relative to body weight, what dosage was given? Absolutely I would be talking to the Vet about this. I hope all is well very soon for you both.
  2. Friend with Neos who lives in Seattle has the deluxe XL model. Her two older dogs still enjoy going out simply because they have access to the wheels of the family vehicle. I used the model you mention when it first was made. Simple easy and wonderful for the dogs. Most of the group I meet when I lived in the USA used the ramps for the hunting season. Much easier to " handle" even active dogs. :)
  3. Meh... A trick that does not work either LOL.... Also a trick that is not needed to be done to make that online closing deadline of a show.... I created a template in the end. :)
  4. This will interest you..... http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/articles.html?s=training-a-sar-search-and-rescue-dog
  5. Sometimes the dogs do have 'booties'. Many do not wear them for the entire period they are searching. Have a friend who had his trained Vizslas at The World Trade rescue mission. He said one of his would work the rubble for about 20 mins with booties, then stop and ask for them to be taken off. Sessions searching were timed and the dogs closely watched. Like ,any others involved with these specially trained dogs, there was a strict routine in their care. He used to say he had shares in a product called Mushers' Secret Paw All Natural Wax. Applying it hardened the paws. Also widely used with hunting gun dogs in the USA. I use it here for hot summer walks on concrete. :)
  6. At a show, the USA judge made the comment that both of our boys (litter brothers) showed lack of return in the upper arm. Any comments on this? I have an idea. But would love to hear comments from others. Dogs are 18 months old Hungarian Vizslas. I am looking for actions to take if needed. VM & HH Who will do wriggle butts for anyone he says ;)
  7. Does involve recall..... Years ago, when Tibor was not more than 10 weeks old, I looked out the kitchen window to observe this beautiful russet gold dog frolicking in the rear paddock near horses. A light bulb moment happened when I realised said dog was mine & just escaped from the back yard. ( by digging a hole). Went outside, down the steps and called him in that excited tone that asked to come to Momma (and now). He acted on the first call. I was thrilled to see hiss wee head reappear thro' the new hole in the fence. But I was even more thrilled as he appeared to be smiling as he ran towards me. Instead of stopping at my feet, hr jumped into my arms. I was rewarded with licks and kisses. I never forgot that moment. Recall was one of the first commands I ever asked of him. In so many other things he did, Tibor got the hang of requests and was a loving and much loved Vizsla. I even recall the time of day and date when he did that :)
  8. Fantastic team and great dogs
  9. Zomg SO CUTE! and cheeky :) Aw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In love
  10. My ZsaZsa was kept entire as I breed from her. That meant we ran a rather tight ship in controlling & containing HER conduct. It meant being totally aware as to where 'she' was in term of a reproductive cycle. I spoke to my Vet in great length about the options for & against having her spayed. We were really lucky that she maintained great health during her prime reproductive years. We also managed to refrain the enitre male of the home from mating. He simply was never interested until the actual need for them to tie. At 6 years, we were lucky enough to have a tubual ligation done for her. She enjoyed 6 more years of life, and gave us her heart & soul. eta: Seems to me NSW Vets are a bit more liberal with their thinking?
  11. Jingo must think you are such a wonderful Momma to provide a special garden for him! Loving the description as I can see the JRT doing just that with ALL the enthusiasm known to a JRT.
  12. For me, it would depend on how long your sweet gal has been anxious. Other points would be what make her anxious. Quite a few variables to digest even when contemplating medications. For some dogs owners they are a dog-send: for others, they end up with a dog unable to function because of the dosage of the meds. imo, a multi-facet approach is needed. That's great you are doing your homework. :)
  13. Thanks.. Funnily enough HH can be 'farty' after those meals with the lemon. Shall bear that in mind for the future.
  14. Been a long time belief/thought of mine that the human should have as much fun & enjoyment as the dog... I thrive on reading posts about what goes on with others.
  15. Vale, Roger! You did your job so very well to guard and love your Momma as you did. What a brave boy. Be free now, Roger. Much love to you, Ellz. There is nothing more special than Staffie LOVE. He will continue with his role of care, I am sure.
  16. Aw, doncha know there's a WORLD out there that called her at this particular time? There were smells, potential thrills AND did you not know how clever I was to escape the back yard. Did I tell you how much I loved the smells, the different ground I walked on and the thrill!!!!! It was a calling that came upon me. Maybe it might be a one off, I dunno. Maybe I need aids to remove my ennui but life did call me just like that. LOL. I am repeating what my cowVizsla would tell me AFTER she walked along the 9ft fence to escape to freedom.
  17. Um, maybe that you are a great Momma spoiling your ever so lovely puppy?
  18. Maybe read this site. It does offer the different State sites to follow up. We were always told not to allow dog in the front if there are air bag in NSW. http://www.dogculture.com.au/content/11-car-travel
  19. Omg. It drives me INSANE. Click click click......click click click click...ARGGHGHGH! I just lie there waiting for the next click. It's easier to take the buggers out. Lili is an angel, pees and runs straight back in but Mosley sniffs and patrols and eats cat poo I get the Vizsla equivalent of a soft shoe shuffle on the floor of the crate. It is vile! HH makes the enitre house rumble when & if HE determines it is time to exit that crate for toilet duties. I hear it thro' earplugs. On the whole he is good. Usually his behaviour prior to night calls like this is indicative of unrest to come. (Happened last night & he was actually off-colour. His ear is so sore again).
  20. Like lemon? Or do you mean oranges & mandarins? I put lemon & lemon slices iin some meat casseroles which HH sometimes eats.
