I found, the study was actually a Mars survey of 3000 people and the results were released as the 'Pets Positives Score' mashed together with other select papers so what exactly they used is unknown (see references at the bottom). Here And here's a transcript from the ABC interview with Dr Chris regarding the score, and Dr Richard Malik (an amazing cat specialist who helped me successfully treat a very serious cat condition). Here

The study was commissioned by Mars Pet Care Aus but i can't find the actual report.

There's an old thread. Doler imported one, I gather from that, they aren't readily available here or ANKC registered (so you wouldn't be able to go check them out at a show). Happy to be corrected! Do you have other breeds on your wish list just in case?
-
Ah! Thanks ladies I'm understanding more now.
-
They haven't legislated against the breed. They have condemned the activity. LOLs at the above. They've always been BSL to a certain extent. With greyhound specific regulations. Without racing tattoo (BYB etc) then a few prey driven attacks will get greys and greyhoundy looking dogs on the list of 'breeds' rangers can visually identify and act against as with bull breeds. Not sure if ACT will take up that method. & Thank you for the article trifecta! That is much clearer.
-
Yes. When live baiting came out it really kicked off a lot of interest in saving them. What worries me; there is the line is that if the dog has no tattoo, you can't prove it's a grey and therefore it doesn't need a muzzle. It makes a more appealing rehoming prospect. (edit; wtf is going on with my formatting!)

(this is from the govt site) Do they own Wentworth Park and places like that? I'm not sure what their actual property assets are. It will all become crown land? Sorry for the questions, I don't really understand the land thing and if it will be turned over to developers straight away.
-
I rest my case. On topic, there's not much that pound staff can do about any rescue without proven breaches of law. Even then, it would go to the general managers and higher up to make decisions.
-
Culling. I'm also worried they will be exported like the ones who were sold to china.

I love this thread!

I'm so sorry Anne Rest In Peace little one. xxxx

I expected that post DD and I'm so bored of you. You have a problem with me. And every time you try to poke holes in my posts by deliberately twisting things it just makes you look petty and strange. BTW thank you Anne and Tootsie Roll for taking my post as it was intended.
-
Just wasted 5 minutes skimming. I blame you Tootsie Roll the curiosity was too much. Basically it's a standard social media rescue brawl. From experience....dealing with a huge rescue brawl that still ended up accomplishing nothing. (Yep this is going to be another "in general" type post) * A good 50% of posts from either side's supporters are total bullshit. * Many claiming to have facts or inside proof or whatever often don't have anything useful or concrete ... someone has fed them regurgitated information or they are playing sock puppet. * Sift out the bystanders, the disgruntled, the morally outraged & the ones who have been waiting ages for a chance to enthusiastically stick a knife into whoever. * And somewhere under the crap you'll find the simple truth. Mostly after everyone has stopped shouting and moved on to the next outrage. If that offends anyone then so be it but absolutely nobody in rescue & animal welfare is perfect, without ego, or in it to win friends and please everyone. If you want to help the dogs focus hard on the bit of truth where you can find it and go with that. Ignore the noise.
-
Yep. You must have missed my bitching and complaining in the other thread.
-
Wow, I had absolutely no idea they were prone to uterine cancer! I remember entire does being snooty, cranky, clucky little cows.
-
Finally! Yes I've signed up. :) No reason not to take up a new place to list our rescues. Do our PetRescues still show up in Trading Post or was that ages ago?
-
OMG I remember now! Those big bucks are worse than a tomcat.
-
Great link DobieMum NDN is great for low income and pensioners, who normally wouldn't be able to afford desexing. I wish more people would take up the offer for their cats. The stream in pounds and free to good home is immense and far beyond what rescue can cope with. There is also DABS and IMHO if you can prevent unwanted litters being born that helps rescue and the community in the long run.
-
Terriers can be fine with their own cats particularly if everyone is lazing around, but it's the chase that is hard to resist. If your cats need a safe haven pop a baby gate on a room and have their stuff in there.
-
No problem. And no, authorities don't officially define 'good rescue' ... I guess apart from giving rspca and awl powers of enforcement.(?) For fundraising purposes all you need is a licence issued by NSW Fair Trading. You can go one better and add tax deductibility which is a more complex process. These are all dealt with through ACNC, ATO and Fair Trading. All independent of what exactly you are raising money for as long as you fit into a non-profit, charitable organisation framework and functions as dictated by law. And do your yearly audit of course. To call yourself non-profit and ask for any items or money donated to you without your basic Fair Trading permit is illegal in NSW. Something you should take note of when donating anywhere, it's become a common thing with the advent of social media. Weirdly, a rescue that breeds from pound dogs is breaking no law. Go figure.

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (Brunfelsia) Plant
_PL_ replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for the reminder! We've only had one encounter with this plant and it's such a common, benign looking decorative shrub you'd never guess! Glad your guys are ok. :) One of our volunteers got this done last night as a card for FB. She hadn't heard of it either. My link -
Here's some general answers to the best of my knowledge. I'm only talking NSW, my knowledge of other states is sketchy. This is in no way directed at anyone in particular. Merely an FYI because nobody has answered. I think you'll find that even things like grooming and training are not regulated and enforcement can be arbitrary. Note; Rescues own their animals just like you do. And may keep, sell, give away or euthanise as any normal owner can. Rescuers may also buy animals. Or accept surrendered pets (chipped and registered and/or Stat Dec of relinquishing ownership). All animal owners refer to; Companion Animal Act and POCTAA Additionally there is the 16D which is the agreement under which pets are released from pounds to rescue. Council pounds may add extra agreements. Rescue dogs & cats must be lifetime registered after 12 months in care. 16D is subject to yearly reporting and 5 yearly renewal. Animals in Commercial boarding kennels are under the mandatory Code Animal related activities are often initially actioned by council rangers who will call in authorities; rspca, awl or police if applicable per the above Acts and at their discretion. Members of the public may raise complaints to council or above authorities if they conflict with the Acts. For rangers; local council bylaws and the above Acts may cover aspects of interest such as environmental pollution complaints (barking etc), nuisance orders and dangerous dogs, kennels, shelters, backyard breeders (registration and microchipping), registered breeders (registration and microchipping), zoning, livestock in urban areas etc Local council bylaws can be contested if they conflict with state or federal laws. Cats can be declared nuisance only in certain circumstances but are otherwise allowed to roam except under curfew. Greyhounds must be muzzled in public unless they have passed the Greenhound program. All dogs and cats must be microchipped and lifetime registered. Vaccination and/or desexing is not mandatory in NSW. NSW has no limit on number of pets an individual may own. As long as standards of care, state, federal and local council bylaws bring no formal action against the owner. RSPCA knowledge base answers general FAQ's. For hoarding studies refer to U.S. Tufts University If you see someone try to re-home an animal they found (chipped or not), it is illegal and the animal must be presented to the pound or ranger. I'd be very careful 'naming and shaming' (common on FB) as this entitles individuals, businesses and charities to litigation if they have a case such as proven loss of income and can afford to stop you. edited to fix formatting!

Stinky Bottom, Sloppy Poos But Straining - My 4Mth Gr Pup
_PL_ replied to fiwisyd's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
As above and less rich treats, especially liver. Poo eating I know. Gross. There's a couple of old wives remedies like a bit of pineapple or brewers yeast on their food which is no help to you now with an upset tummy! And some of it is just puppy stuff, their Mum's do it for them. Occasionally females do it as a maternal thing. Then they want to kiss you. lol. (oh I just had a thought. She may have eaten a nasty poo in the park. Regardless, vet visit has to happen anyway)
