  1. Crap. You want inflammatory take a look at post 1. If you're worried about people being put off by the other dolers, you're looking at the wrong end of the dog. well, looking at something from a different angle is all part of a holistic in nature approach, isn't it :) ? We've been through that. Grow up, go back to class. Learn how to read and learn how to express yourself without trolling.

Godwin's Law!! ..yeah, pretty funny...not...you should work for Trump...he will appreciate your ideas he can implement then for Mexicans and Muslims once he is in charge.... 5. This does nothing to reduce the amount of dogs in rescue… as long as there on dogs on this planet there will be dogs in rescue. Why? Because people, for the most part exploit animals for dollars and think of animals as disposable items. Change that and we just might have a chance…..Higher registration fees for undesexed animals is nothing more than revenue raising. True it doesn't effectively prevent the poor buggers ending up on death row. Apparently (going by the dogs and cats impounded), mandatory microchipping isn't even able to be enforced so there's a lot of animals running around with barely a vaccine in them. But a registered dog is much cheaper to get out of the pound than an unregistered one. If you don't want to pay rego and can't or won't make arrangements to pay higher fees to get out your unregistered dog out, it's cheaper to get a new dog and leave the other - yes that happens a lot particularly in poor socio economic areas. (And at holiday time when boarding is costly) There are free and discount desexing programs for low income families; lowering the price of rego, lowering reclaim fees and preventing more litters. Pity the offer isn't taken up by the ones who really should. Revenue raising, probably, but then someone still has to pay for the cleanup facilities so where is the revenue going to come from? Fee and ratepayers also pay for things like rangers to catch strays and nice parks for us to walk our dogs in. A decent owner pays what they need to as just another of the many expenses of having a pet but are within their rights to have a grumble about it.
  6. Tell me exactly where have you been called unethical? Because that's your choice. You have a choice here, it's not Norway. Others have a choice too. And charging extra is a mere encouragement to desex because it costs all rate payers (even the ones with no pets) money for every single unwanted dog that gets impounded, fed, then euthanised and disposed of. Just going by your list, you clearly aren't aware or are just confused to think that reasons can be quantified. For someone so keen on throwing in google links to everything your list of reasons is a glaring assumption based on your limited experience and knowledge of anything other than your own dog and what you read on the internet. Well good for you. Bravo, I'll have to take your word for it. And there are plenty of statistics and reports because everyone is an expert on google. However stats can be manipulated and I wouldn't call any of them truly 'reliable' on either side of the fence. You've got to be f***ing kidding. That's the most atrocious piece of nonsense you've ever written and that's saying a lot. Pure ignorance and as per usual; insulting. Dogs are dying. Every minute of every day. Going by your theory lets just close down rescue and pounds for 6 months and see the market regulate itself. That'll work for sure. Clever you. :vomit: I've had to explain this little gem of desexing wisdom before when you've popped in with unsolicited comments designed to frighten people for what reason? Do you really care or is it just about making the atmosphere in every thread go sour and railroad it to your soap box? So far this whole post is just a bizarre ramble when nobody has called you or anyone else unethical. In fact, YOU are the one to frequently criticise and belittle people who choose to desex. YOU are the one who takes every opportunity to make it clear that people who do desex are the irresponsible ones. Again, random comment referring to 'studies' when there a billion out there that'll back up whatever you like. Norway's system is just as mental as trying to enforce mandatory desexing. And where are your govt reports to further enlighten us on Norway's decision to remove the basic right as a pet owner to make a decision for your own animal? Tripe. Again, another example of you looking down on and belittling those who choose to desex as lazy and irresponsible. Amen! In the years of desexing hundreds of pets I'm yet to see anything negative related to neutering except for the entire ones who arrive with testicular or mammary cancers, hernias and pyometra. And in comparison with the life and death situation thousands of impounded BYB dogs and cats find themselves in there is not enough stats, research and reports in the world to comfort me that their parent dogs had really nice owners and won't get hemangiosarcoma. I don't give two shits if it was an 'oops' one-off crossbreed litter from a great home. If you truly cared about being an actual human being and not feeding into the cycle of death down the generations then microchip, vaccinate and desex all those pups before they go anywhere. Don't contribute to the next generation. In short, everyone regards themselves as good/responsible pet owners. Everyone! We all have our own individual definition as well. I'm ambivalent to most except the cruel, neglectful or those contributing (even just once) to the thousands of pound dogs and cats. Oh, and owners of females sitting in backyards quietly dying of pyo and mammary cancer ---- but at least it's not the 'severe health risks' a desexed dog would face should their irresponsible, lazy, uncaring owner trying to save a buck on rego actually be so barbaric as to do it!
  7. Sorry :) I meant to answer earlier. I think with the popularity of FB you could make a go of it. You wouldn't need a website and it would be easy for people to refer them on instead of the standard 'go adopt a rescue pet' they could link to you for help. You'd need to familiarise yourself with the different policies and why they are in place (e.g. the no long distance adoption vs transport interstate). And get an idea of what ethical rescues are supposed to be doing -- like desexing! Plus watch the pound pages and pet rescue, and the groups who aren't on petrescue. Hope that helps. :)
  8. Probably just a phase. :) Definitely a vet check to see if anything is amiss or a bit creaky. Dogs can creep off into a safe spot if they feel a bit average or put off by things like visitors. Anyway assuming it's just that he likes it there for comfort ( trying to describe this properly); the litter would be moulded to his body and able to move around when he shifts position. He may just like the feel of it. Maybe see if an orthopaedic bed with soft edges rather than completely flat would work? Maybe even with a heat pad? ;)
  9. couldn't resist. The prices are too good! Fantastic puzzles to keep the old folks thinking.
  10. ...??? so BYB should stick with unhealthy breed standards??? ....???and what is wrong with you??? You can't read a post within context and the way it was meant? edited to delete the rest BYB stock comes from breeder's lines so there's a trickle-down.
  11. Provided I don't post any photos of my adorable puppy. ;) It's okay, Jumabaar, it was not really a muff up and I'm sure most people understood. Well we do have a lovely piccie of handsome Boags .... surely just one more couldn't hurt.
  12. Great posts from qualified and helpful peeps who don't get their info straight from google. Hopefully now the thread can get back on track. If we're really lucky.
  13. I swear they are mind readers! I only need to *think* about getting the scissors out and two of my girls vanish.
  14. Ohhh wow she looks amaaazing. Especially where she is looking straight into the camera. Super intense and smart. I'm so grateful for how quick the breed community leapt into action! And especially that she has eyes on her and the best chance at leading the life she needs instead of being a bouncer from unprepared homes.
  15. :cheer: Perfect! Many thanks SpikesPuppy that's the best news.
  16. Have you asked about new Apoquel? We've just started an allergic dog on it and her itching is completely gone. If it works on your girl's skin, you may just have her tummy to worry about? The worst dog I had (still have) with shocking allergies and dreadful digestion; passing blood and feeling crap. Eventually started on Cyclosporine for his skin so at least one problem was taken care of. Weirdly, it also fixed his IBD/IBS. I tried googling exactly why but it's all veterinary studies and far too complicated lol. Anyway, fast fwd and he's a happy 14yr old at perfect weight, no itchies and can eat normal food. Zero advice on diet; I threw out that many bags of food and wasted months on exclusion diets that just didn't work or made him feel worse. I hope your new one is a winner. :)
  17. Sorry for the late response. Personally I don't like treating recurrent things without more testing. :) Of course, vets start with the basics because it could be something simple so they have done the normal thing. However as Rappie said, there's more to do and at her age I'd be going for further testing.

    A Good News Story!

Unless you're working under a rock, everything is self promotion, and in this case it's a Pet Rescue initiative and happening all over the place with all different rescues on the cover. Well done Bev! :cheer: This will be interesting considering the direction Pet Rescue has been going in ......
  19. Has she had a full pathology blood panel done?
  20. Ditto  I'm really sick to death of threads being completely derailed lately. And now the poor poster who started the discussion is going to come back to a total mess.
  21. Same, but we've got a perfect example here that it takes a lot these days to get a warning.
  22. A lovely post. Could not agree more. how cruel and distressing to the dog Yep - when we went through *kind of* similar with our last senior - we moved her INTO our bed so we could feel her fussing and take down for the loo. We went to the effort of quickly teaching our "new senior" (adopted at 10 years) the "go do wees" command to help with night time toileting. To the original poster - It can be done. It can be managed. I think if you guys are sharing sleeping downstairs to help your pup out - you're unlikely to leave him to 'cry it out' but in case the thought does cross your mind - please dont. Our seniors, especially, deserve a bit of fuss. there will be always people who feel better if they can force their pets into dependencies ...and they will always people who prefer leaving their animals some dignity... Jesus christ you really are offensive and thoughtless.
  23. how cruel and distressing to the dog cruel? ...maybe...what are the options???...distressing?...yes, that's why the wanted outcome should be achieved ASAP to minimize the stress! If the dog won't be able to walk the stairs again, but is still healthy enough to enjoy himself to poo and pee outside on his own terms I prefer to let him have this dignity instead of forcing him to mess up the rooms. Rescue some old dogs, see their distress and need for routine and stability then provide your input thanks Willem. There are other options that are kinder and will in the long run work out for everyone. I don't think they deliberately want to upset or cause anxiety issues but felt helpless, and now have enough information to go on with. I have no problem with making changes that benefit a senior dog, to insinuate that it robs dignity is pure stupidity.
  24. I think I didn't stress enough how dreadful it is for an old dog to find themselves moved out. Please don't. Find a way of changing your own system rather than his.
