For All The Unethical (But Responsible) Dog Owners ...
_PL_ replied to Willem's topic in General Dog Discussion
No it doesn't. -
Ingredients compare with VitaPet brand and Excelpet and generic Canine Allwormer. So don't worry at all, it's like a lot of things. Same product, different box. I'm always curious about how much profit on things actually go to the charity but in this case it's confidential information.

Identifying Collection Of Am Bulldogs On Property
_PL_ replied to _PL_'s topic in General Dog Discussion
There's already restrictions on NSW 16D i.e. the group that holds it uses it for their own rescuing. One tiny group claims to have rescued 500 animals....except they only ever had around 50. The rescue is Clause sharing. I've been waiting and waiting for any kind of change. It won't come from within the rescue/welfare/advocate system that's for sure. Using the word Rescue garners the trust & respect of the public. Calling for change or scrutiny has to come from the public otherwise it's labeled 'rescue politics'. But the public trust Rescue. It's a catch 22 -

You get no argument from me and clearly rescue isn't as easy as many think it is - seems dogs are suffering longer at the hands of several of them and its an area that needs to be addressed however, Id rather listen to what the council and RSPCA is saying which is "hang on be patient" we are onto it than take even a single scrap of notice of reports from O.L. Yes it's hugely complicated in between RSPCA, council, owners, pounds, pound-co ords... transporters could be of help too. I'm sure donors will be after blood when they see where their hard earned money went and that a brand new group appeared with none of these dogs included. And the rescue groups who released some of these dogs and sent them there need to step up as well and take dogs back!! To their credit OL are clearly explaining the law and due process that must be followed amongst the info released but they can't control what their supporters say. No mention of whether they trespassed to get the footage or if neighbours cooperated. That would be a police matter. -

Breeder Refusing Refund For Pure Bred Puppy
_PL_ replied to matt1234's topic in General Dog Discussion
Apologies for the silly question. Breeders; if a dog is sold for breeding like this one is, it's on the mains register yes? So is it regarded as worse (or grounds for a warning from their registering body) for a wonky faulty dog to be on a main register or is it just left to the breeder's discretion and that's all? -

Identifying Collection Of Am Bulldogs On Property
_PL_ replied to _PL_'s topic in General Dog Discussion
That's them. Sorry. They've been found on a property pretty much left to themselves apart from being fed, after their rescue left town. I was more interested in getting the dogs identified if anyone recognises them. Or share if you like, wherever would behelpful. You never know. There are also dogs that were sent from pounds. Thankfully they will be chipped, but once a dog is sent over the border it goes on a different registry which is how pound dogs can leave the state and kind of vanish. Chipped pound dogs are being followed up but it takes time.. If a dog has been surrendered then having no chip won't help unless the owner sees them. A couple have been identified though which is great. :) No idea if any were stolen, that would need to be confirmed by the original owners. I can't say a lot on DOL because Troy needs to not be involved and will have to take the thread down. -
Thought it best to put here as the rescue section is pretty much dead. But I was asked to post. So I'm talking Oscar's Law here sorry, but this needs to get more coverage. More details of the full story have been posted naming names, which you can read if you feel inclined but I'm only interested in sharing the album in case anyone can identify or has seen one of these dogs on FB groups and pages relating to pound release and transport or on FTGH / Lost/ Stolen dogs. Please don't name anyone or their rescue because the thread will have to be removed. Request mods remove if you feel this is inappropriate. No hard feelings. :) Dogs in album; (partially derailed by arguments about chaining) https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1298216046873232.1073741880.135173789844136&type=3

Please Lock (Leaving Dog Alone For 9 Hours 4 Days A Week)
_PL_ replied to batmanforever's topic in General Dog Discussion
Same. Left at 17 and owned 'my' first dog other than family dogs. Worked full time. 6 - 7 days a week. Not sure what your point is about being shot down in flames. It's as much about changing and evolving your life as it is about hours out of home. The people who contact us because they don't have time for the dog anymore. Are moving. Had kids. Neighbour complaints. Boredom/destructive. Got a new dog. Landlord orders. WTF can I do?? Pet started with good intentions but not the reality of 15yrs. BTW Everywhere I've lived has had backyard yard dogs who bark all day. All friday and saturday night. And some, all sunday. Lights out, nobody home. And I still believe small companion breeds should not be made to live outdoors. Not apologising for that. -

My dogs are left outside all day if i am not home. they just sleep, and enjoy the sun, Bark at the postman and resume sleeping. But report me to the rspca for their terrible lives ;) They are a companion breed, but they are also dogs. Yeh but Denali - you're in Q where your days (generally) aren't as cool as the OPs. And you have three for company and you're an experienced owner. Thank you! I'm assuming you're taking the piss denali. We've had the same thread a year ago and the OP was advised on breeds. And was given some appropriate advice for the information provided. Including from you. Although things have changed again we're still talking about a very young person just out of high school. And the new dog was going to be indoors and a 'constant companion', but that has changed to outside in VIC alone in the cold and heat ..(all night?). OP already had a pug but gave it away due to almost moving overseas. But didn't move. So; Realistically how many hours per day will the dog be in range of their owner. When will the dog be allowed inside. Will the dog be sleeping outside at night. Will the parents do backup when owner is away. How into the idea are the parents/homeowners/people who pay for everything/final say. What happens over the next 15yrs to guarantee this companion breed gets everything it needs when things change so much for a young person and already have. Shoot me. I would never ever place a dog into that story. But plenty will. This thread has much more going on than just focussing on the hours away from home. -

If I get a puppy, I would get one when I have holidays for 2-3 weeks, so I can train the puppy. Even if I decide to go for an elder dog, what breed would you suggest? I was thinking of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. No way to ever leaving a cav or other little companion breed outside all day and into the night. It's inappropriate and in my opinion, unkind. Agreeing with Dame Aussie. You may want a dog but that's different to being ready for one. -
I know rescue doesn't count, 1 dog = $1500 just last week. But my own dogs, really quite fit touch wood. They've had good lives and haven't reached the age where things start getting steeper. Most expenses go on food and some on fleas. My poor cat though only to lose him to lymphoma too young.

Norway is a great example of legislation gone stupid. Whatever your or my views are on desexing, it's ridiculous. Docking and ear cropping .. not my field but when docking was still legal I saw BYB botched jobs that were nasty. Was it supposed to be done by a vet under anaesthetic like desexing is? -
Jerry is gorgeous! Looks like he's come a long way with your hard work.

Clever :) I think you'd have to be doing a full time Phd to gather 10 - 15yrs of stats together and come out with something close to accurate, and then assume that 5yrs later all of it would need updating. It's not all that popular but quite realistic to say that certain breeds attract certain people because it's usually in the context of 'tough' bull breeds and that topic has been done to death. Attack statistics are incomplete because not everything is reported and as far as dog to human; a scratch is enough to set off a menacing dog complaint. Then where was the dog. Who did it bite. What did it bite. How serious was it. And how many of them were around at the time the study was done. Both bite and dumping have human factors that are multiple; there's the popularity thing. Paris Hilton stage saw a massive spike in pound chihuahuas, movies like Balto set off a whole lot of sibes going to inappropriate homes, pet store white fluffies bought in haste sitting impounded alongside the BYB staffy cross, pigging areas always will have a huge oversupply of bull arab. Labradors because people seem to forget that they are still a large dog who needs managing. My city area is right into oodles and frenchies at the moment. Not sure where all the large brindle pound looking crosses dogs have gone from a few years ago. Past fads have all had their turn for example cavaliers, blue anything, rottie, pomeranian. You see the numbers go up and down. Frenchy and brachy are up next. Then there's the 'dumping' aka reason for being impounded which has hundreds of factors from; mismatched homes, strays & unclaimed dogs that seem to come from nowhere, unwanted; abandoned in the yard or park, dog abandoned at vet or boarding, stolen dogs showing up years later, tying the dog to the pound gate, seizure due to attack, seizure due to cruelty/neglect, owner jailed. To the truly heartbreaking. Homelessness, family breakdown, mental collapse, spousal abuse, drug abuse, going to nursing home. Death. We're leaving out the dogs who don't get dumped but handed from home to home; having more than one in their lifetime. Point is, something so complex and nationwide can't be summed up easily. Hence the long reply  -

I'd like to point out that I did in fact post in the spirit of forum discussion. What got me into trouble is laughing at Maddy's post and since then I've been belted. Even my rescue has been dragged in. You know me better than to think I won't respond to that kind of shit. -
