Has anyone noticed that once you try to soften the elbow callous and they go back out and onto bare concrete, that it's actually worse because the hardened skin is not there as protection?

New Things Happening At Petrescue...
_PL_ replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
In one of the links they provided; a full rundown of why we should be dropping all policies. Remove Obstacles no application, no home check, no landlord checks, no dog to dog introductions, and no fences requirement etc etc etc Who else got this copy&paste response? Each to their own and PR should respect that and leave the adoptions to rescuers. At least Shel kept her own blog for 'sharing examples' editorials. -
New Things Happening At Petrescue...

Pet Rescue shouldn't be telling anyone how to or how not to rehome their pets. My link Whether you do or don't agree with the article it isn't appropriate to have a piece published on their site telling the public some rescues are being old fashioned, strict and not progressive because we do what works for us. I'd feel the same if the shoe was on the other foot so pls don't make my post into a pro vs anti application/home check etc. -
Granny was the same, she did add meat too from memory. And all the cats lived healthily forever; no crystals in the urine, no sudden kidney failure. But I think with most supermarket foods, it's been devolving to keep costs lower and more competitive. More and more cheap flavours, colours, soy, imported ingredients and fillers. So they look the same as years ago, but aren't what they used to be. Same as people fed their dogs on tinned food and it lived healthily for years - our family dog was 17 when he passed - but it would have been far simpler processing and basic ingredients, all the bits that didn't make it into a meat pie.

Renbury Pound: A Negative Opinion?
_PL_ replied to Boronia's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Nothing to do with the petition although some would like to credit it. I'm no expert but AFAIK Liverpool Council has re-zoning happening which has been in the planning process for years. Part of the Sydney urban expansion. Guess they finally got their plans finalised and through the state legislation. It's all on the net if you know what to look for and can follow the numerous changes, environmental clauses, amendments and extra proposals (which I find very difficult) For example in a re-zone; an area of min 40 hectares now has a min of 10 with changes to what the block of land can be used for. So the property like the one RF is sitting on can be subdivided and sold in smaller blocks. I haven't looked up exactly what zone the property will become but as far as I know the rd is earmarked for expansion as well. No idea where they will relocate their own Liverpool dogs to but Renbury Services 3 other councils who would have been watching as plans were being worked out. I'm sure moves will be announced at some point. edited because of a brain fart -
We're on a brand new site as a charity who will receive a donation every time you upload a photo for $2. Just Select Seniors & Silky Rescue as your chosen charity (We're an ACNC registered org). There's other ones on there too if you'd like to donate to a few like AWLQLD & Wildcare. Eventually the site will evolve into one giant photo album to show off your pets :) Anyway it's a fundraiser for rescues but it doesn't matter what kind of pet or where they came from. ???? www.onemillionpets.com.au Everyone is welcome. ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? I'm so sorry if this isn't OK here I'll have mods delete if it's not.

How Can I Prevent New Puppy From Learning Older Dogs Habits?
_PL_ replied to wimaly's topic in Puppy Chat
As above. All good advice and you can keep coming back here to ask the experienced people. Only thing I can contribute is that they all go through a phase of being unbearable teenage twerps just after it looks like all your hard work has paid off. So start early and stick with it. -
Always have some stainless handy, it's lighter, lasts forever and you can travel with it. The melamine with stainless insert is fantastic too. Then there's ceramic which I love. Pop into Kmart, they have deep flat based cereal bowls for $2 Dishwasher safe. They are a bit to heavy to push around, hard to tip over, look great and haven't chipped or faded after over 2 years! http://www.kmart.com.au/product/cereal-bowl---red-dot/124312 edited to add; my dogs are small. :) wouldn't be much use for large breeds LOL *snap* Scottsmum! Didn't see you'd linked already.

...to be able to understand the answer I need to know the question...a quote out of context without disclosing the source is seldom helpful. ..thanks for the link...it seems that the poster read a few books from CM and believed that this is enough to qualify him... No problem, I just didn't want to drag attention away onto one particular twit when there's so many. Fortunately it's been a while since I've seen someone alpha roll a poodle but dogs are still being dragged around like cattle. Most owners who seek training help are just genuinely nice people without a lot of experience, and they get taken advantage of, and their dogs get messed up.

Pity his website is gone now but there's lots still around. Just google a few of Caesar's keywords. In answer, like huski said. Absolutely nothing to stop anyone. what's the purpose of this quote with unknown source? You need help to see what people are being advised by unqualified trainers? Translation; next time, to pre-empt an attack, you and your dog just confidently step into the aggressive dog's space and poke it in the neck. Here's context for you My link

This is a memorable (for me at least) post from this forum. From a'whisperer' who was around at the time offering help to rescues. Pity his website is gone now but there's lots still around. Just google a few of Caesar's keywords. In answer, like huski said. Absolutely nothing to stop anyone.

Yes we posted this on our page at Christmas because you end up watching so many movies ... always check before you watch. At the moment there's a 3 part movie called The Stag (or Bachelor Weekend in other countries), there's a beautiful cocker type dog in it and she's still alive but it's getting stressful. And it's not listed on the site either. Please; has anyone seen it? BTW if you haven't it's NOT a 'lighthearted comedy' not sure who was writing the reviews that day. HSF Woofnhoof that's me!

I know nothing about german shepherds or the standards they are supposed to be bred to but if a dog turned up at the pound who walked like that I'd think there was something really medically wrong with it. :o Seeing that dog ..... I feel really uneducated about what is 'healthy' for that breed. It just looks wrong. Didn't see the rest of crufts.

No  SDCH is smashing it out of the park as far as having a social presence and great adoption rate. But I had to share because she is divine. LOL Her 13yr old friend was adopted today too. Woohoo!

See if you can get to Dr Eugene Buffa. He has done a couple of beautifully successful surgeries for us, the last one being a bone tumour of the hard palate. Brilliant surgeon. edit to be specific it was around the teeth and gums, and moving inwards to the palate by invading the bone image link He got every single bit :)

Are you in Sydney?

Please don't just assume she will get used to a dog just because you get a pup. It absolutely doesn't work that way, and I'm talking about the rescue point of view like Rebanne said. Pups rumble and nip and jump. If a child squeals and runs it can be even more encouragement to be silly. They hit around 12 to 18 months and it's all over. They've terrorised the child, trashed the kid's toys, eaten furniture and wires, pooped on the carpet, been put outside, unsocialised, no manners etc. Personally I'd take her to meet grown dogs, something soft like a mellow adult Cavalier. Frenchies are a fashionable dog at the moment and have become a very exploited 'investment' breed; be careful. Also be careful of the numerous free classifieds, so many are swamped with scammers who take advantage of fad breeds with things like cheap prices, offering free dogs (in exchange for you paying a transport fee) and no waiting period; that kind of thing. If it sounds too good to be true it often is.

From the title I thought the topic was going to be about wolves and wild things.

New Things Happening At Petrescue...
_PL_ replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I think your assessment is overly harsh and verging on bad taste [sour grapes??]. PetRescue has always provided an excellent, sophisticated and 100% needed resource. If it wasn’t as professional as it is, it would not have lasted. All this takes money. Try not to read things into my posts that aren't there because you have an issue with me. -
Us  Actually I hadn't realised AMRRIC who started so small, have been going great guns! That's awesome.

New Things Happening At Petrescue...
_PL_ replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Does it matter? In my mind as long as animals are getting rehomed it doesn't matter which group is doing it. Point is, they do get a lot of donations and money from advertising and sponsors and partners. Enough for paid staff, an office and all the things most of their 'clients' would love to have. And plenty to cover a neonate litter. Asking for $1000 means they will get much more than that and they have never operated as a rescue group; technically it's a bunch of office people raising a litter who would normally pay out of their own pocket. It'll probably go back into running the charity but the thing is; are they muscling in on a finite donation resource when private cat & kitten rescue is a quick way to send you broke? Previously I've had my whinge about the PR Donation button right next to the profiles of our dogs but the argument is still that the money goes back to running the show and we're silly to complain. Maybe so. But it still irks me. So does this kitten thing, for much the same reason. BTW it does go back in so I'm not insinuating otherwise. -
I should add that usually they end up closely watching then copying the others and settling in. Monkey see monkey do. LOL And some barely look back at you despite the hard yards we both did with rehab. I do love those moments. Ungrateful little critters.
-
Yes, some sit at the door waiting to go home. They do settle, it just makes me a bit sad. We do use a baby gate to stop any bolters. And are very careful to fit harnesses snugly. I know comparing animals to humans isn't the done thing but one rescuer explained it to me once in simplistic terms that even children .. no matter if it was a crap or scary or neglectful way to live ... just want to go home, home to their parent/s.
