Preventic Collar (amatraz = Active Ingredient)
kelpiecuddles replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Paralysis ticks are a lot tougher than other ticks. To give you an idea the spot on treatments are used monthly for fleas and bush ticks but if you wish to use them for paralysis ticks they must be used fortnightly. The effective time period is also reduced for preventic for them to be considered strong wnough for parlysis ticks. They are horrible critters! -
Good on him, at least he can see the laws are useless! Hopefully the feeling will spread and change will come.

Well there ya go! I mostly use yahoo anyway as I find google seems to have a lot more sponsored results but it's handy to know there is an aussie site option for google :)

What To Do If Your Dog Eats 1080 Poison
kelpiecuddles replied to Canisbellum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep or a fox will carry it close to a trail or any number of other things. Safest bet is dog on leash and with a basket type muzzle on and carry soda crystals in your first aid kit -
Good trick for future reference, if I'm ever hunting a product in Aus I skip google and go to yahoo.com because after you search you can select Aus sites only, you can't do that in google :)

i looked at k9 Pro's website but it doesn't look like they have the sweaters, just some of the other coats. You could message them though and ask.

What To Do If Your Dog Eats 1080 Poison

What about putting a cage muzzle on the dog while you are there to make it hard for them to eat anything -

Oh if I was still living in Bundoora he could have hung with us! I have heard good things about Canine Country too and also the ones near the Tulla airport(can't think of the name right now though) -
Allergy Dog - Seeking Skin Management Tips

Which antihitamines do you use? many of them are just human brand ones anyway, sometimes rebadged for the vet market. A lot of people whose dogs are on long term antihistamines use human ones any way as they are the same thing and work out a lot cheaper -
Our dog ate a rat bait and when we spoke to the vet and hospital(as there was concern about a child too, long story!) from recollection it was about one wax block per 12kg before they were considered in serious trouble. Even though your dogs would only be a few kilos they'd have to consume a fair few mice to get the equivalent amount per kilo in their belly for it to be concerning.

Given that the VIc BSL crappola guidelines specifically say that if it's white it ISN'T a pitbull I think they are going to be pushing to claim that one as a pitty!

I don't envy your position at all Kirislin. My last oldie was a much loved 20 year old cat(who I'd had since I was 5 years old!) and all I can was that when it was time I just knew. Looking at her I could see that it was getting to a point that there were more bad days than good ones and when it looked like it was all just too difficult for her that was the time. For what it's worth my dogs have taken to eating dirt lately too, in their case I think it's to do with the mud from all the rain because they did it last winter too so the dirt thing maybe be nothing to worry about. Be kind to yourself, I think when the time is right you'll feel it.

My kelpie definitely loves other kelpies. Poor Josie doesn't often get to meet others of her own kind but she mainly gravitates towards children :) On another note try and say Czech shepherd 10 times fast LOL

They weren't to capacity but as other facilities are closing this should in theory increase the number of animals they cater for
-
The vets idea of out of date is probably different to a good proportion of educated pet owners idea of out of date. I get a roasting from my vet because I choose to vaccinate triannually and my indoor cat is only vaccinated at a reduced schedule too as she doesn't associate with any other cats(outdoor cats in general are very unusual in this area due large numbers of paralysis ticks). I wouldn't consider them to be unvaccinated but the vet does!

I agree, I took it to be directed at people with dog trailers out of concern for the dogs, not because no one else on the road ever drives badly.

The tripawds is designed for dogs involved in search and rescue and to allow the handler to abseil with the animal and all sorts. Quite frankly I don't think you need to worry about anything on the harness breaking, just get a good attachment to go from there to the seatbelt.

To be clear I only mentioned a show judge looking at him as an idea to satisfy those who were dead set on him needing to be desexed. If legally he had been required to be desexed in order to comply with a contract he could have a vasectomy as a working dog, but if there was potential for him to be used as a stud at some stage then obviously he would need to be completely entire. Personally I had no issue with him being left entire to start with but there was an awful lot of pressure saying he should desexed and I felt he should have the chance to be assessed prior to any permanent decisions being made. Also if you reread I didn't say an ANKC judge should look at him, I said it would be nice to get an overseas judge with breed experience to look at him, which wouldnt be a bad idea from a working perspective anyway to identify any possible structural issues.

I do understand what you are saying SG and I guess that like you I am hoping this all turns out well for the dog/breed/new owner, etc. As I say, I think it would be good if this dog could be properly assessed as to it's 'in tact value', if it not to be used down the track in a planned import program then as others have mentioned a vasectomy might be a good option. That said I am hoping that Nehkbet's personal recommendation for this gentleman is a sing that he is someone that does have this dogs/breeds best interests at heart.

Yes imagine if in some awful circumstances(death of owner or something to that effect) someones show dog/s ended up in the pound unknown to it's breed community and then out to rescue before their identity being discovered. I think it would again be a shame if people experienced and knowledgeable weren't given the opportunity to take that dog on entire so it could go back in to the breed community, even more so if it was from a breed with a fairly limited gene pool to start with. It's exceptional circumstances. If this dog is able to be assessed by a conformation judge visiting from overseas with breed experience I think that would be wonderful. If approved as being of good quality he could be the basis for having the breed recognised by the ANKC. Just because the breed isn't currently recognised doesn't mean they never will be.

Bull Mastiff Rescue

Here's hoping they look in to it further, I'm thinking the same as you Cody -
He does realise that his agreement to take on this dog also carries an agreement for lots of photos to be forwarded our way doesn't he?
