  1. thems was deaf then, would be nice to think the wax is running out and freeing up their ears, but i dont hold out a lot of hope. n look where its got me... raving,,, ranting....nn weird please do be careful. i would hate to see u straightjacketed beside moi no its the panic buttons confusing me. no way your in that danger. apologies for even thinking it
  2. just as i tried to explain, if you eliminate "backyard breeders" you are backing eliminating yourself. EVERYONE, has a backyard. be it 1 mtr square or 100 miles square.. .... n look where its got moi your beginning to sound a little like what i was thinking 20 years ago ?
  3. You're weird. OK you win. very civil of u actually, usually get branded , ranting or raving.. inference being mad i think what was the prize incidently didnt realise it was a competition
  4. does steve now have two monikers k9 n steve? i gather k9 being an expert, my crime was mentioning what i had observed that didnt fit what the expert said. again another case of shut up or wear the unethical billboard. ho dont bother answering. TA.
  5. n how many of you thought its only good for trucks n tractors eh?
  6. yes its been a hoot hasnt it, learned stuff i wish i had known when i still had my lot. keep it stored in case another wanders into my life again. the first i discovered at a pet stall in penrith markets. so skinny no one wanted her n even her owner thought she was going to die, he couldnt fatten her up. so muggins came home with her n discovered she ADORED milk n egg yolk. never looked back after that. he sure was stunned to see her only 2 months later. the second girl i ended up with because my first girl came into season and in the search for a boy to put her too rather than loose her, arrived at the owners house just in time to hear him tell his wife to "get the gun as hed have to shoot her. she's too squirmy to ring her neck ." sooo muggins asks whats the problem n gets given the most stunning pure white girl with an apalling case of what he called footrot. rang hubbies vet mates and a good soaking in diesel daily and bingo... 3 months later svelte ferret with equally svelte toes n nails. amazing stuff diesel oil?
  7. K9: about euthanasia being legal, no that is correct. K9: So this lady has debarked every one of her dogs, all 20 of them, hmmmm thats interesting. But anyway, try doing some research and you will see that I am correct. K9: Unfortunately it is not an exact science, some dogs go through the procedure and no effect takes place, others the tissue grows back or they bark off the scar tissue created in the surgery, others develop breathing problems and some are totally silent. K9: so as most people in suburbia have 3 neighbours within 80 feet, the point of debarking is? lol K9:Seems you travel in circles of people who like to debark dogs... K9: Russian Roulette anyone? yes she had three that would bite strangers, being chihuahuas it wasnt that much of a problem, only got chomped once helping doing nails for her. but then perhaps u should be bringing in BSL for any chi's that bite too? oddly when she died these three along with the boy were given to me, n once i was no longer the "stranger" in their house they dont bite? lucky for me they were the old ones and have since crossed the n theres only one left, the friendly one yes i move in sick circles if that is what you intend to infer. she lived in the suburbs. she was surrounded on two sides by a school so barking wasnt a problem there. BUT THE ONE neighbour she did have decided one day to call the RSPCA, Animal Welfare and the council ranger. all three turned up same day half n hour apart. she was terribly distressed by the out of the blue to her complaint. turned out they had a new baby that woke to the slightest sound so they did the biscuit. she was given an ultimatioum.. debark or destruct every single one of em. being a totaly dreadfull person she complied with the debark order as she for some odd reason didnt want to kill her dogs. yep some sick unethical people out there. n yes every single one of them could bark. it was the pitch lowered not them rendered totaly mute. sorry to dissappoint you NOT. so i gather u can be added to the list of those who dont agree with you, must be bad people? n so it goes. so that makes me one of em, n so its then ever so highly ethical to insinuate im bad and to be not believed i gather? agree or be tarred as unethical, is it? or shut up when your posts are up or pay the price ? somehow i think the quickest i rehome that dog of hers the better, but who will accept a tortured dog?. thanks to all the crap being bandied about debarked dogs i learned fast, I cannot let strangers meet him, they think the worst the second he barks at them. so the word is being well spread. dead is better than debarked. cant give it back to her. she had a heart attack afterwards, family thinks it was the stress. didnt die straight away lingered for quite a while. as for the dog that the friend debarked and got its voice back. in the 60 odd years my husband n he were friends with that was the only dog he ever resorted to having done. and he bred an awful lot of dogs over those decades. think i remember being told he was the oldest kennel prefix still going of his chosen breed. n no he bred cattle dogs, not chihuahuas. n yes im extremly short tempered for some strange reason.
  8. Really? Why is that, Steve? ie what's the dog psychology behind it? K9: The availability of the dog giving warning sounds (growling, whinning, barking) has been removed, so biting is all that is left (is the main theory). just because the growl is soft doesnt make it any less a warning. whoever ignorned the warning more fool them. cant recall a dog that didnt add lips curling, teeth showing, theres a lot of body language going on before the bite... whose deaf and blind??? not the dog i think
  9. surely you are joking? as i said earlier i knew a lady every one of her dogs were debarked and there were some 20 of them.. no how no way could they bark for help or yelp and not be heard. debarking DOES NOT SILENCE THE DOG FOR goodness sake. it lowers the pitch so it cant carry for miles . full stop. it certainly can be heard by the owner... well unless its out in the country and hundreds of yards from them. i have one of her dogs now and i can hear him 80 feet from me n how many suburban yards are much bigger than that nowdays? most even less what a crock of misinformation that seems to me from what i have seen and heard over 30 years with friends debarked dogs, anyway n the ones she had that bit, bit before they were done, some have attitude, others dont
  10. you and i both. writing to the Minister for Agriculture got me nowhere. when i replied to that infamous letter pointing out he was in fact relying on purjured information he solved the delima by not replying to any letters from that point on. so politicions dont want to know when its not to their liking
  11. what happened to judy guard too has nothing to do with the dogs welfare n everything to do with income generation. n these new laws are going to make this even more for em heck the vet put down the poor dog that she got her hands on before sending em in to seize the rest of judys dogs, does that sound like the welfare of the dog counts?
  12. fogot to add after she signed them over, that was a wednesday. mm or tuesday, sorry too long ago to remember which of the two it was now. both I and a number of her friends phoned every day to ask to buy them. to be told every single time that "they were not available for sale yet" when i rang the saturday morning and told the same rubbish, i told the girl i knew this was a lie. that i was present when they were signed over the previous week and KNEW THEY ARE NOW AVAIALBLE. she then said.. "HO well i suppose it cant hurt. they went to mcgraths hill this morning" i franticly phoned all those interested in rescueing these horses and arrived there myself, just in time to watch that creature walk into the ring and make his speech. thereby banning me and anyone else who knew them from bidding. can u imagine how it felt watching helplessly as they were knocked down for slaughter.. never realising then my turn, at their hands was comming a few years later, luckily at least theres something to be said for not knowing what lays in store. but how to cope now i know this is how they operate is my problem
  13. someone, well? can anyone explain to me how sending ten foals and their mothers, all quiet as, most of the mums broken in already. how being sold to the doggers could ever be construed as having found them "good homes"??
  14. n before u finish deluding yourself those in control of the rspca are better people now. remember the now ceo of rspca nsw Steve Coleman? when I opened my dogs nsw journal and saw that smiling face with the cute n fluffy, dropped it like a hot potato. that was the face of the smiling assassion who send all marion alcorns arabians into the ring at mcgraths hill after telling all present, that "only the doggers are allowed to bid on these horses" the same smiling assassion who told marion alcorn, he would "find good homes" for them if she signed them over to the RSPCA. not hersay. I was with marion when she was told that and signed them over... I WAS AT MCGRATHS HILL, TO SEE AND HEAR THAT MONSTER. that was prior to my own learning curve.. i didnt know the name of the red haired monster, till i opened my journal that day. yes nice lot in charge of the care of all creatures great and small. james herriot would be apalled if he knew how twisted a lot are using his words now. to make the stupid, oops gullable, general public feel all warm m fuzzy
  15. NEVER, is my suspicion. long as you keep focusing on the eliminating of "puppy farmers" your blinkers keep you from admitting or realising to the government and its minions, your all tarred by the same brush
  16. Bowl cancer diagnosed in April(?) (14mth daughter, 2 1/2yr daughter)and the other was only diagnosed with a brain tumor in June (20mth twins,4yr boy). Not having a fantastic year and I feel so blessed to have my family. watching rpa last nite the doc said 1 in 6 people will get bowel cancer thats horrendious
  17. Yes thats how it looks. Not that simple. There are many things which impact here and a public forum isnt the place to chat about them. Suffice to say assuming people who are involved in the dog world will put the dogs first over numerous other things is folly. so true, n one of the reasons is fellow breeders, as pointed out in the letter i received, use these "things" (special constables) to eliminate fellow breeders cute lot I really cant go on warning you about this. it just upsets me so im so sick every time i repeat it, just brings it all back, n the realisation it could happen all over again. If u have an animal, any animal. we have absoultely no one, no where to appeal when your attacked. when will u lot realise this????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
  18. n sadly point out my experience just proves to those who think they are "special" that such things as happened to me only occur because i "deserved it" all you who stupidly, yes STUPIDLY think that adhering to ANY...."CODE OF ETHICS" re-read this quote from the Minister for Agriculture, Richard Amery, its from a letter dated 14 june 2001 "If you conduct your business as outlined in the Code of Practice for dog breeding establishments you will have nothing to fear from further visits from RSPCA inspectors." he sent me the booklet. sooo what does that mean. BLOODY NOTHING FOLKS REMEMBER THIS HAPPEND TO ME 11 years ago. long before the new u beat ones now comming in. "one other breeder" send the dogs of war. the dogs of war took my dog despite the fact i was in complete compliance with the said booklet enclosed. proof surely when they failed to find anything at all chargable? but they still held my dog captive for 13 days, billed me to the max as they are entitled to by law. LIED to the said Minister for Agriculture as to the curcumstances that caused them to decide to steal my dog, N yes i have PROOF OF SAID LIES. ie. "Without proper records of your own or your veterianian, showing that String was under veterinary care, the inspectors could only rely on their own judgement. In this case Inspector Donnelly decided that Stringly's best interestst would be served by a proper veterinary examination and diagnostic workup at the RSPCA shelter." since at no time did the said inspector speak to my vet priot to the theft of the dog. even after taking the dog he did not avail himself to call my vet, whose name, number and address he had been given two weeks prior to the theft of the dog. and theft is was. since the escuse given never happend prior to said theft. except it cant be called theft, because the law is such that "special constables" only have to "form the opinion" the dog should be seized. why he felt it necessary to lie to the minister for agriculture i cannout guess, since the law gave him the right to take him regardless of any compliance with the so called piece of paper called "Code of Practice for dog breeding establishments " so u see i know from experience its a worthless piece of paper save perhaps for emergency use for toileting purposes. hide behind it all u wish. but dont expect to find any of your dogs left if some "special constable" decides to "form the opinon" to take one or all and bill you for the days weeks or months they decide to keep them. n now if i understand righly you will have to pay upfront or sign all ownership rights to them over to said seizing organisation, so i see absoultely no reason for any one to feel safe ever again now. ho, said inspector did finally speak to my vet, 3 days after they had my dog, and guess what? (and he didnt call my vet, my vet called them, every single day until he was finally permitted to speak to the seizing constable, BUT NVER IN ALL 13 DAYS WAS HE PERMITTED TO SPEAK TO THE VET CHOPPING UP MY DOG, WHO HAD ALREADY OVER VACCINATED A DOG ALREADY VACCINATED, FLEA TREATED A DOG ALREADY FLEA TREATED 48 HRS PRIOR TOSEIZURE SO A DOUBLE DOSE OF BOTH COULD HAVE CRASHED HIM, SINCE HE ONLY WEIGHED 1.2 KG, so dont tell me the actual well being of the dog was on the radar, specially since he was returned 13 days later suffering pnemonia n the now president of the veterinary association didnt even notice?) If your vet does not have it written in his records that your dog has nothing wrong with it WRITTEN IN PEN N INK then said vets oral word is inadmissable (well according to what they told the minister for agriculture?. get your head around that one kids. the only vets who do so when they see your dog, have been through this fiasco before. and in the case of mine he went with me every time i had a litter vaccinated because he loved going out and always came so he was seen every time i visited my vet. so he had every reson to know exactly his state of health. yet this information was given to richard amery AS THE REASON FOR SEIZING THE DOG. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO REST EASY OVER. get your silly heads around the truth they are answerable to no one, and they will tell the only minister they have to "report" too whatever they like. and i dont see where i can have em charged for perjury , can u?
  19. I totally agree. I didnt know whether to laugh or scratch my head. How's the OP going - any update on whether you could get your paperwork? always leaves me thinking thats their way of saying SHUT UP! dont u think? i bought one of those collars recently, ummm does last year equate with recently . have a young dog that likes the sound of his own voice at the moment, the one that sprays "Dynavet" when he barks. had a wonderful week he finally got the idea. soft wuff n all ok. well he discovered it runs out didnt he? WUFF back with a vengence n im refilling it every 3 days, dont think its annoying him too much. sooo out with the rolled newspaper and much angry posturing n he finally decided hysterical uman aint getting him pats so has the message, peace reigns again. n now have a second hand collar stashed in the cupboard
  20. n from what i saw with one dog i know, debarking doesnt always stick either. friend had a boy that would bark in his sleep. i looked after him for some weeks and couldnt wait to return him. nxt time i saw him he had a husky bark.. yep he had been done, the neighbours had totally jacked up. he moved and asked me to mind him till the new place was set up fences n all. 3 months later with much practice his dog had his bark back......loudn and clear.....sigh. heard he rehomed him to a car yard as a guard dog.. LOL out in the sticks middle of an industrial area no neighbours.. the perfect place for him no one absolutely no one could ever say they entered that yard n didnt know a dog was in there.....
  21. yes i really do not understand the premise that a barking dog does so only because its depressed, lonely etc. there are many that just LOVE to talk the the WORLD. N BEING THE NEIGHBOUR to such a dog is pure misery. im fortunate in being far from the madding crowd dont even have to think of it. but i know when one of mine decides to go on all night, its under chastisement how worse if its not yours keeping u awake. know a friend in the city, all hers were done. neighbours just woulnt put up with even a yip. why is it people think they cant bark once done? hers sure could. just didnt carry all over the block like before.??
  22. I've heard that the females commonly get a type of fatal aplastic anaemia due to bone marrow suppression from estrogen if they come on heat & aren't allowed to breed? Don't know much about it though since we don't keep ferrets as pets over here. :D \ yep lucky the thought police havent decided to make it law yet u cant breed a female ferret three seasons running eh? If left in season the jills do run a very high risk of developing Pyometra and/or Aplastic Anaemia. Unfortunately a lot of people use that as an excuse to breed willy-nilly without giving much thought to their breedings year after year, despite there being a lot of alternatives. Breeding to a vasectomised hob will bring them out of heat without a litter- a very good solution for people who have a lot of jills. No need to be breeding 10+ litters every year as I have heard of some folk doing! There is a hormone injection that can be given to bring a jill out of heat. It is best given two weeks after the ferret comes into season. Depending on the jill it may need to repeated twice. I have used this before with good results. And Suprelorin Implants. These will sterilise a jill for two years before returning her to full fertility. A wonderful way of ensuring a ferret can be properly tested before breeding. Ferret contraception is a fascinating topic. now that is interesting, i thought it was a case of they had to be bred or desexed

  24. I rehomed one of my older girls with a lovely chap she picked, his son had brought him looking for a puppy but silvy took one look and wanted him, his son said he had been diagnosed with cancer and didnt have long the doctors said. he promised to return silvy when the time came if they couldnt keep her. 7 years down the track he is still defying the doc's so u just dont know how long is a piece of string.
  25. actually a butcher is not qualified to kill an animal. A slaughterman is. Butchers only know how to carve up the meat into cuts and joints. As for qualification ... I kill the animals in the manner prescribed. I did animal anatomy at university so I know exactly how to kill different species. Even commercial rabbits have their necks broken. How different is it to what I do? Do you think everyone who has done a short course is a better person then I am to kill an animal? To many it is a job, to me it is something I go out and want to do. I spend a LOT of money on our ferrets. They get fresh raw meaty bones, premium brand kitten food, straw to sleep in, new cages, play time every day all over the garage, toys etc. I exercise them in the off season to keep them healthy and mentally happy. When one of the young ones got sick I nursed it inside, syringed my special formula down its throat every 15 minutes and warmed it under a heat lamp. I didnt sleep until I knew he was OK and he lived. Suppose none of that really matters when you have preconceived notions. By the way I dont use a gun. I kill with my hands and it is quick. Rabbits, fish, ducks, chickens etc. Done very quickly. When I did my own ducks they didnt even flap I had them stunned before their throats were slit. Considering how expensive a hobby it can be really I dont see where it is a quick fix or a chest beating exercise. I dont mind you adding to this thread Polecatty nice to see some more ferreters! They're becoming a rare breed! We found that placing immature ferrets in with the older ones worked, by the time they were secually mature they all just got along. Ours have the odd scrap but no one has ever fought to the death. Our little female was dragging our big boy around the garage last night by his scruff because he was ignoring her super spastic play time As for biting, we get well handled young ones and handle them a lot. If a ferret bites me too hard it gets a flick on the nose, if they latch on a smack. Guy who bred ours had some that bit so hard the only way was to stick a lit cigarette under thier noses until the smoke got to them :p a bit much. It's easier just to teach them to be gentle and all ours will eat out of your hands as well with no problems. As for the kamikazi ferrets ... OH got one the other day, climbed up the top of the cage and flew at him with all four legs out ... I'm sure I could hear a tiny little scream of BANZAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! You raised an interesting point. So butchers are not qualified to slaughter animals.....so then why is it okay for every Joan, Liz and Kerry to do so? Shouldn't be allowed, IMO. Makes me grimace at the thought that some woman (or man) with no clue whatsoever makes an attempt to kill an animal. That ex friend of mine went about killing her pet ducks with a pair of scissors.....they were once her pets and she decided to make a meal of them simply because she ran out of money to buy food! What a sorry excuse for a human being she was. yep she sure does, reminds me of a friend , we had water for dinner, while the kids had half an apple each. that was all the food there was in the house. hubby had used all of it on his new speed boat. wife n kids food??? not on his horizon sure have a nice way with words dont u This ex friend of mine was concerned with her own appetite, she doesnt have kids to feed nor a husband with a passion for speed boats (she was single); she didn't object to spending time at the pokies though...she didn't have an addiction to gambling....she just met up with some people one weekend and decided to spend every dime (from Centrelink) on this one occasion until hunger got the better of her and given that she likes her meat wayyyy too much decided to grab a pair of scissors before cutting her pet ducks' throat. And here you are saying that I have a nice way with words???? that is not what you said. go reread your own posts before getting back up into the saddle
