  1. So sad for you all. Tragic. Sincere sympathy.
  2. Was going to suggest Happy Rescue Ranch but you may get unwanted creatures dumped on you. How about Light at the end of the lane ( instead of tunnel)
  3. Flea bob inside the house & Coopex all over the grounds outside. Its about $9 or $10 from fodder stores & is used around farms etc. It says on the packet the area it cover so a few may be need. Dilute as per instructions & apply with a watering can or garden spray.
  4. Only ever had 1 injury. Tired when home from work & did not pay attention to my Doberman instantly. She did a sit waiting for a pat as usual. As I stood in front of her getting something she put up her huge paw & scrapped it right down my crutch. I screamed. Investigation showed 4 giant deep gouge marks & much blood. So scared it would get infected as I did not want to go to the doctor & try & explain how I got that there. Took lots of betadine & ages to heal up.
  5. 1st thing is to ask are they a registered breeder. Then you phone the canine association in their state & ask if they are currently registered. Easy. You should have researched your chosen breed in advance. Ask if they have had the relevant health tests done. Not everything can be tested for so you do need to know which tests are advised for your breed. The breeder should answer any questions you have & advise about care, grooming, feeding, or anything you are unsure about. Ask about any health guarantee. Next step is to meet when a puppy is available for you & assure that you are happy with the breeder, environment & of course the puppy. You must also state if you want a puppy for show/breed or a pet when enquiring. Papers are different. That way the breeder knows straight away if they can offer you a puppy or not. Hope that helps a little.
  6. IMO the council have done the right thing here. They are stopping it continuing any longer. The welfare of the animals should be dealt with by RSPCA. Why isn't this happening ?
  7. No wonder drug companies make billions. It seems that if any living thing is out of the scale of average/normal, who ever decides what that is. The answer is Drug It. Great :D I wonder would the world survive if the only drugs available were for the physical things.
  8. All get bathed every 2 weeks, unless there is a long heatwave on, a quick brush most days, bedding changed about weekly. It is quite dry & dusty here & poodles get messy. It is also unpleasant & can hurt for them to have knots & matts untangled so its best not to let them form in the first place. They like having a brush. When I had short coat dogs they were not bathed as often but they were brushed regularly with a pure bristle brush.
  9. If things go haywire there is really not much you can do about it if you are in another country. You may not even know the dog has been bred from until it is done. Unless you can trust the person 100% & even that has been known to backfire, I would put the dog in both names until the tests are done. It will not stop a litter being bred, nothing will if that is what they want, but it will stop them being registered. Which gut instinct is strongest ? The one against co ownership or the one that tells you that you can trust the person 100%.
  10. I agree with this 100% I have 3 boys and do as many courses as I can find while bringing them up, parenting is hard word and I love assistance! Dr Spock was the baby bible in the 70's for bringing up babies. He has since publicly admitted he was wrong in many of his ideas. One can not bring a child up to others rules & ideas. Each is an individual, has a family with varying ideas of the norm as well as cultural variations. Many people who have written these books have studied, have impressive qualifications & NO children of their own. The cultures where babies are with their mothers constantly, even tied on their backs while working & never left crying is at opposite opinion of western thinking. Which is leave the baby to cry, you will spoil it & have a right to your time. Modern practise of programming (re sleep/crying) your baby leaves me with distaste. If others want that fine, but I do not & would not want my children taught that this is right because the course said so & its the current trend. A course should be to teach those who need it how to bathe, change, feed & attend to the babies health. They are psychologically invasive, squash natural maternal instinct & can make mothers feel incapable, wrong & inadequate The human race did survive before we had all these people telling you how to do it & dogs also were trained, did not all bite & have problems. Actually there were far less problems with both years ago. Testing, licensing who can have children, who can have dogs We will all have to be tested, licensed to breathe soon, let alone breed. Maybe we should just all have our brains cloned. Then we can all behave in accord, as one, to whatever the higher power is ;) ;)
  11. There are some very cheap flights at the moment. You could always hop on one, knock on their door & say Can I have the papers please May be quicker & easier for you. Honestly don't know any way of fast tracking except to turn up & ask for them & doubt anyone else would either. This has been done before to people & is most frustrating.
  12. If the breeder was a respected registered breeder & a judge why would the person not trust that the papers would be sent, if that was what was agreed to ? When new to breeding one trusts people & does not always know exactly what is done re papers & reasonably would trust the person. Hope you get it all sorted out
  13. No because People learn to pass tests & say the right thing. It may be an idiot & useless test as it will be determined by the views of who sets it, like RSPCA. Many people pass tests & are still not capable or adequate for the thing, eg idiot drivers who have passed, incompetent people qualified in the workforce. It will not stop cruelty or idiot owners. Does every trainer & breeder do the right thing always ? Just another revenue raiser. More expense for the responsible people. We are over regulated in all aspects of society. Does it make a perfect world with everyone obeying the sometimes ridiculous rules ? No it does not. There is no exact right way to own a pet, just as there is no exact right way to bring up ones children. We are a society that likes being told what & how to do, with rules for everything. We don't need another useless one. We have animal welfare rules/laws, which are often not enforced by those in power, or over enforced. Waste of time, resources, that would achieve exactly nothing.
  14. 26 animal welfare people What do they think he is going to do ? Torture & beat them ? I don't think so. They should be out there on those puppy farms & investigating real cruelty. Doing the job they are supposed to be doing. Outrageous waste of time, money & resources, which they are always claiming are in short supply.
  15. I don't know but what I do know is that genes do not always work to the chart or book. I bred 2 black poodles with 4 generations of black on each side & the brown came out from way back. Those recessive genes are very sneaky. Theory is great but in practise all sorts can come out & does, usually when we do not want it.
  16. No rules or laws re this. My view is that I put it on the earth so therefore it is my responsiblity, if things go wrong. Not the pound or quick to PTS animal charity. I always put a note at the top of microchip forms that if the dog is ever found or surrendered I, the breeder do a lifetime re home. Don't know if it does much good but I hope so.
  17. The pounds & the newspapers have lots of spoodles, some even give away. Which are not a breed. Many are got rid of due to false claims about everything from size, coat, temperament & misleading people into thinking they are a proper breed. 6 week old puppies, no pedigree so who knows what breeds with what dog, no testing for PRA, do they know what a luxating patella is ? Puppy farm. Tell your friend to Run. There are heaps of nice purebred breeds out there to choose from. Spoodle is a fashion fad & a bad choice.
  18. I breed cats & dogs. Kittens & puppies are fine together if they are introduced properly. Not left together unsupervised ever under 6 months old, your pup will need to learn the command leave it. The kitten won't & will have to be removed to somewhere seperate if play gets rough & it persists. They can become great friends. You just have to use common sense & not just shove them together & not watch them. Same as with a baby & a toddler really.
  19. Sirens always kick them off. Also other dogs howling. Maybe there is a howling dog somewhere & you don't hear it inside but they hear it outside. Entire males may howl if they know there is a bitch on heat & they can't get to it. I went outside once to tell mine to shut up howling & all 5 of them were sat in a circle like wolves with their heads up. Creepy, must be a primitive instinct thing. Don't know how to stop it, not normally a regular thing.
  20. Bit different in the UK. I bought my own 1st pedigree dog, when I was grown up, in about 1975. He was a chihuahua & came from a registered breeder who went on to become a judge. Cost me about 100 pounds from memory. Many breeders of pedigree dogs, a few bred a small amount from home but there were also many big kennels. No limits on how many dogs a person could keep & no dog council registration. Not sure if they even have any now there. Mongrels about but most the people around us had pure breeds, most with papers.
  21. That was about it. My mum is 86 & in the UK. She said when she was a little girl they always had a cat. It was always having kittens, same as the women were always having babies, no way of stopping it then. She said my grandmother would never allow them to be drowned & always found a home for every single one of them. Unusual back then. Life was hard & harsh for people too in many ways. Horrid really.
  22. The total lack of communication would bother me a lot too. I acknowledge any $'s immediately, people worry has their money got there, especially using internet banking. I also send weekly photos, news about their new baby etc. It helps the new owner bond, keeps them happy, reassures them all is going well & gives them the feeling they know their puppy. An hour, or less, of my time once a week is not too much of them to ask. Buying interstate is a worry & this attitude is not reassuring for people at all.
  23. The dog probably had bad experience/harsh handling previously if it behaved like this the odd time it was done. I would tell the owner they need to have it done every 4 weeks, for a good while, if they want you to continue. That way the dog can learn to behave & that it can be a positive experience. If they agree use the muzzle, firmness & gentle reassurance until the dog gives in & relaxes. It will get better. If they don't agree it is just going to be the same no matter who does it.
  24. No Poodle Club here in SA. It fell apart a good few years ago.
  25. Maybe they should just put the koalas back & Go to the puppy farm in Vic on the other post & seize the dogs there instead
