Raw Diet For Pup With Overbite
oakway replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I second all of this. -
All any body can do is to tell you what they do and use, This is what I do, it works for me. I do not vaccinate puppies before 8 weeks. I use Nobivac DHP. The vet said this vaccine is protecting the pups in 36 hrs. If the pup is sold the new owners are advised to get the pup another Nobivac DHP between 5 and six months. I also advise that the pup is titre tested at approximately 7 months and when anti bodies are detected the the pup receives NO more vaccine for the rest of it's life. If the pup has antibodies in its system they are their for life and only death or irradiation will kill them. I have never had parvo. As most of us will tell you that if the pup is vaccinated correctly the pup will not get Parvo. The only way a vaccinated pup can get parvo is.....vaccinated to early in life for the vaccine to be effective or the vaccine had something wrong with it and was ineffective. JMHO Cheers.

The new puppy vaccine regime suggests that NO baby should be vaccinated before eight weeks.
-
Put it this way I wouldn't be throwing the baby out with the bath water.
-
If that was my pup it would never get a third vaccination. One vaccination before 3 months and one after. I use the Nobivac DHP. If your in any doubt why not get the dog titre tested to see if the dog has anti bodies in it's system. If it has antibodies they will be there for life. Only death or irradiation will kill them.

Depends on what you gave the dog. As long as it was ALL wormer it should be straight away. Also will depend if the dog got the correct dose.. Some times it can be hard to judge a dogs weight. The dose should always rounded up to the highest dose not the lowest.

If you don't want to do what has been suggested. Do you have a friend with a cat hating dog that you borrow and keep in your yard for a while. Now that might just solve your problem.

The price is a big factor in super premium food. There are many that would love to use it but it is usually out of their price range.

How Much Mince Meat Should I Feed?
oakway replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A word of warning when purchasing from a butcher. They tend to throw in a lot of fat from the meat they trim. It's usually more fat than chicken frames. I only buy chicken pet mince from chicken shops. -
Sorry, I just don't understand why you would want to vaccinate a 9 year old that has been vaccinated with C5 5 for all those years. I would be more concerned that her immune system would not be good after that much vaccine. Don't forget that it has been proved that over vaccination suppresses the immune system it does not enhance it. If the dog was mine it would never get another vaccine in it's life.

Well that's what it all about, feeding your a food that agrees with it. I personally don't care if the food I feed is from a Pets Paradise off chute. It's all about getting the right food that suits your dog.
-
No, didn't know they existed. Mind you as bone dries out it can become dangerous, brittle, sharp and may cause damage to the stomach. I personally would not use them.

Hot Spot.

The dog could have thyroid problem. A blood test would be the next thing I did.

I use Pets Direct, I think thats what they call themselves. It may be a franchise of PP but who ever has it does not sell cats and dogs. Why not support them in purchasing dog food etc., It may just get the message through to PP that people will not purchase off them when they sell pets under the PP banner. The minute they start sell cats and dogs tell them why and then go elsewhere.

Oh you lucky people. I have have tried it with no success at all. Seems it works for some dogs and not others.

Yeah, we're all just in it for the money, we don't care about the animals at all. I hope you weren't rude enough to say this to Dr Dodds... Nothing in life is guaranteed!!!!!! But if you follow the above the the chances improve greatly. By the way when when speaking to Jean with a friend privately she suggested we send the titre tests to her (have a day and do a bulk lot) to avoid the high costs involved in Australian. By the way she believes that the health of the animal is more important than money.

What do you regard as the "new vaccination protocol" and the "right vaccine" ? It's not only to do with vaccination but when to do it and how to prepare for the vaccination. There are many factors which govern the effectiveness of vaccines. Some breeders cause vaccinations not to work by the timing of the shots when given. Did you by any chance attend the lectures given by Dr. Jean Dodd's when she was lecturing here in Australia, because if you did you will understand better than most what I am trying say. Those that attended will know what I am trying to say. I think if I tried to put it into words it would be to long and boring to most. What if I tell what I do and why. Firstly I believe I contributed to the death of one of my dogs by over vaccination. That's how I became interested in vaccination procedure. I now use vaccine that is manufactured in this country. Why, because it has less distance to travel around the world to get to the vet's surgery and to arrive in tip top condition. I am asking the vet to use Nobivac DHP. I now vaccinate at 8 weeks not 6 weeks. All 27 teaching veterinary hospitals in America are teaching 8 weeks not 6 and they can't all be wrong. Speaking to people that have told me of loss of litters that were vaccinated at 6 weeks. Upon asking why they thought they lost there litter. Many gave varied and vivid reasons why. Then I came up with a person who really wanted to know why the pups died of parvo 2 weeks after vaccination with DHP. (This was years ago now) This lady even tested the bitches milk. Yes the pups were still on her. Their in lies the answer to why the pups died. This bitch was producing Anti Bodies. Then the thought was if one can do it, so can others. My puppies now come off the bitch at six weeks and NEVER drink from her again. I vaccinate at 8 weeks when any Anti Bodies would be at their lowest. I use local made vaccine that has less time to travel at the correct temperature (we hope). Again I go back to Jean Dodd's words ...one vaccination before three months and one after. If you are in any doubt titre test. If the dog has Anti bodies (T cells) in it's system they are there for life. The only thing that will kill them is irradiation or death. I have not written the above to be ridiculed as what I have said is fact. What I have written about local vaccine is my thoughts. Yes, the message is getting through and we now hear of far more less deaths in puppies than we used to. Yes, the message is getting through to people not to vaccinate yearly. Yes Mr/Mrs/Miss Vet we are sorry that you are losing money on yearly vaccinations but the health of the animal is more important.

If they are vaccinated correctly they will be. Use the new vaccination protocol and the right vaccine they will be. The hardest problem is getting people to believe it. :p
-
If any dog is vaccinated correctly it won't catch parvo. That's why we vaccinate.

I usually start babies I keep on heart worm at 3 months. (Monthly) you can start them earlier if you want to . Sold puppies I always give a first dose the day they leave.

Dog Walking Lifting Legs Funny And Hunched Up
oakway replied to doglova's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Dogs can get cramp, I have seen them like you have described. -
Pugs hate anything done to their feet. I know a pug that has it's nail's ground regularly before shows. She has them done on a regular basis since she was purchased. No trouble what so ever.

Why cut them ?. Why not get a small hand held electric Dremmel and use the coarse sand paper cylinders and grind them down. Much easier and safer.
