  1. Two of my pedigree dogs were from registered breeders who raised them on milk, pal and weetbix. Provided the breeder ticks all the other boxes it is not the end of the world. Both my pups were kept on this for the first few days to minimize any stress etc and I slowly introduced my preferred food. Both dogs are now adults, and very fit and healthy.
  2. Going by your post above, I cannot believe this woman was happy to hold on to her GSD who is apparently aggressive towards her child, just in order to get another dog. Geez, poor kid.
  3. Sorry for your loss Wagsalot.
  4. These cats desperately need to get out of where they are. They probably won't be in the best condition coat wise and need all vet work done. I have two here and they have just the most beautiful natures, very affectionate. They have previously lived with dogs but a lot of them have only lived in enclosures. They are all good with each other, even the entire males. Mine have been well handled, used to being bathed too. Even if someone has room for just the one cat they have to get out of where they are if someone could pretty please squeeze one in.
  5. Maybe send them off to be looked at as I have not ever had this problem.,
  6. I feel the same way, although dogs get my boot.
  7. I recommended my neighbours try it. Even though my dogs didn't do well on it I thought there's might and it was more in their price bracket. I arranged for two bags to be delivered to them a month or so ago and even though they weaned them on to it they all had the trots, gurgly tummies etc so they chucked the remainder.
  8. Many breeds are prey driven, Rotties especially. I used to have Rotties and had no problems with my cats. One of my other dogs (Stafford) is very prey driven but no problem with my poultry or cats. It just comes down to the right dog and training.
  9. I don't know. But my (very devilish) black boy is small and athletic. I guess they need to be fitter to keep up with themselves
  10. I've just bought a bag of this to try too. Will be interesting to see how the dogs do on it. It is Australian Made so I am keen to give it a go!
  11. Threads like this make me sooo thankful for my neighbours. I have 3 Maremmas and whenever I see my neighbours I ask if the barking bothers them and they always say no - 'they love dogs and that's just what dogs do'. I still try my utmost to not let it get excessive but I know at night the Maremmas are very active as we have foxes everywhere.
  12. Hi there, TBH I've not ever noticed, sorry. I have Maremmas so anything else is 'easy' for me  I think you just get good and bad coats. I find show line double coated breeds a lot more work overall.
  13. Yes! One was a teeny little Malt X, quite unattractive little dog who was a real head case and who I just adored. She got a terrific home which was more suited to her (more attention and another small dog) but it left an awful feeling in my stomach and I still think about her. Another was a Rotti who I had just about made my mind up to keep when what I thought was a terrific home turned out to be a terrible home, last I saw him he was underweight and all over the place and they rehomed him, things got nasty and they wouldn't tell me where he went. I still think about him
  14. I never use conditioner. I do use products afterwards though depending on the type of coat.
  15. I can hold but I'm in the Southern Highlands so a little further to Sydney than Yass.
  16. A GSD has far more exercise requirements than this poster is after. I would probably chat with some Bull mastiff breeders to find out more, but they certainly look imposing so would fit the bill in that regard.
  17. I don't know about 'bursts'. Mine, and many others I know, are non stop energy. Greatly depends upon the individual. Yep, it's a given with any breed. I often see SBT's being described as low energy/low exercise requirements - just pointing out that it can be far from the truth.

  19. Nope, you won't always. You certainly can get them solid black but they will always have a small amount of brindle somewhere. My girl is solid black, no stripes at all and has only two brindle hairs on her head. If I plucked them then she'd be solid jet black. But because she has those brindle hairs genetically, she is a black brindle - like an other black looking pedigree SBT.
  20. My SBT cringes at sudden things. She behaves like a beaten dog in certain circumstances but has never had a hand raised to her. Granted, she has always been like this so sudden behavior does sound odd. I wouldn't jump to conclusions though, some things are just scary.
  21. Thanks Sandra, appreciate your help. Will pass it on.
