This is a nightly ritual here with my old girl at last wee's for the night. I've learned to very gently tap her awake from an angle where she cant get me, never grab the collar. She's old, cranky, quick to bite and no drugs seem to give her full relief. She bites if I try to help her up in anyway so I have to just stand over her and plead with her to get up. She gets it after about 5 minutes  See how you go with the vet check and explain to your kids not to go near him when he's sleeping (hopefully they are old enough to understand). If not, try a crate where he can snooze in peace and the kids aren't at risk. I wouldn't leave the kids alone with him at all anymore now. Just the way they can lean on a dog or startle them with a hug can be too much for a senior citizen.

Contact Porsche's Rescue. She will be able to help with diet and care and might know of someone after a bunny to adopt.:)

Yep, the black Pugs are generally crazy *glares at Alvin* and notoriously difficult to house train which might not go down to well in apartment living. Plus when you say 'long walks', most Pugs couldn't keep up with that. Food for thought. :) Awesome dogs in every other way though and love rough and tumble playing.

So tiny Her poor owner just be frantic. Fingers crossed for a speedy return.

Thanks for that. I don't need any more now but will grab them when I do! Also good to know. My wrists, fingers and shoulder have had it so switching from Osters to Wahls years ago I definitely found them kinder to my aging bones.

What If... Opportunity To Have A "bucket List Breed"

She is gorgeous!! How old is she? I bet her ears feel like velvet sad face 'cos I want to pat them.... -
Most of mine are Osters as they were my preferred brand of clipper 13 or so years ago. I've had them for so long I can't remember where I bought them. I do have quite a few 30's though, Universal brand http://clipperbladesharpening.webs.com/clipperblades.htm I am not sure where I got my Andis blades from as I can't remember getting them either. To be honest I don't even notice what brands they all are. I probably should pay attention so I can work out a preference as I am sure some are better than others but I don't really notice so long as they cut well and don't sound funny. Today is the first time I've bought a blade in quite a few years. I mainly use 30's as I mostly use combs even for short clips - I prefer the finish. My Wahl clippers have been going strong for years with no issue but next decade around I might look at the Andis ones as quite a few people seem to be favouring them these days. I get sore wrists though and find the Wahl light for this, someone said on here a while back though that the Andis are lighter?

Yes, thanks so much for your advice. A lovely girl was there who was happy to open it for me to fit it and she even plugged it in for me just to be sure it would work smoothly $80 though That'll teach me for not pulling my finger out and sending mine off to get sharpened - or at least be more organised and buy online.

What If... Opportunity To Have A "bucket List Breed"

Me too! I am insanely jealous I had the opportunity to take on a lovely boy years ago but the timing wasn't right - house with lots of stairs and a baby. The timing still isn't right for me but 'one day'. For now I'll suffice with photos of your new boy *hint*. As for lightening your foster load, I wouldn't worry about that! Priorities change. I stopped altogether when I had a baby and now will only take very specific dogs due to the Maremmas. You do what is best for you and everything else will fall in to place. -
Thanks Arcane I'm taking the clippers in but he wont open the packet (fair enough).

I urgently need another 30 blade so have no time to purchase from my usual online place. My local Petbarn stocks andis blades. I have Wahl clippers. I've just gone through my blades and have a few Andis, but the guy said Andis wont work on Wahl clippers?? He read out all the suitable brands on the packet and Wahl isn't on them. Does anyone know for sure please?

When Does Interest And Concern Become Stalking?!
Clyde replied to Wendles's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I would call :) This way you will get more info back and be more satisfied. Texts can be cryptic and not hold much info, plus personally I find texts annoying. -
I have used Advantix for years and have 3 indoor cats. Provided you are sensible about it, it is not an issue. Best to call Bayer directly to talk to them about it but the product binds within a time frame. I part the fur and slowly apply the product in three sections down the back. This way I get no excess dripping off, or greasy spot - even on my Stafford who has very short fur! The Frontline top spot is usually useless for ticks. With any product where you want to double up on prevention it is always best to speak to your vet first. .Advantix is a flea and tick preventative.

Basic Grooming Info For 'oodles'
Clyde replied to Chequeredblackdog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I guess ever groomer has different ideas but my number one suggestion for most breeds is a good quality long toothed comb. For the average owner I prefer recommending a quality pin brush over a slicker as most people don't know how to use a slicker properly and they are only brushing the top of the coat and not getting right down to the skin. I really dont think you can go past the good old comb! -
I know a few bracchy breeders warn not to give the nasal component as they swear it causes problems like this. I have been using it on my BM's and my old boxer (RIP) since it came out and have never had a problem with it. Same. I used it for my Bulldog and use it for my Pug. I was just putting it out there that some people choose not to use it for their braccys due to issues they've had with it..

I groom quite a few shy Borders which huddle up at the back of the crate. When I go to get them out they give me the 'I'm scared and I'm going to bite you' look but they never do. I actually find the shy ones easier to groom rather than the crazy 'let's bite the dryer' ones. Over time they've gotten better but they are still not in to me. But if a Tzu gives me that look, sure as anything they'll have a go  I agree (in some cases). Another Border I groom regularly I always assumed was shy but I have realised he is just reserved and I have tried to win him over but he always snubs me. He has no interest in my affection, it's almost as if he is just tolerating me. I won't give up though!

Oooo he's cute! Is he your first Sealyham? Someone mentioned 'too much terrier', so what are they really like? I don't know anything about them.

I know someone who uses a dog pram as her dog has bad hips and gets sore and tired easily. She still loves to get out and about though. It's not because the owner treats the dog like her child, she just doesn't like her dog being in pain. Some people are quite rude to her about it when out and about but really it is the kindest thing for the dog who just loves people patting her and going on outings. I have another friend who has 6 little dogs and they go walking every evening. As the dogs are all at various stamina levels they go in the pram as they start to tire and the remaining dogs still get their longer walks. It works well for them but she said they do get strange looks! I have even see one of her dogs ask to go in the pram as she got tired, very cute, puts her front paws up and waits to be lifted in once she has had enough of walking

Thanks Keeta. Sounds like it is about as 'warm' as a pound can be which is great. -

She must be so cold This wind is icy and really stirring up all the animals. Fingers crossed she gets out quickly. -
I've been thinking of you too Teebs. Atlas was a DOL icon, it's almost as if we all knew him too. Take of your self.

My 9 month old Maremma recently strained his cruciate. Anti inflams and rest and he was fine.

Absolutely gorgeous photos!
