  1. Thanks guys, I see what you mean, both good points
  2. When I was a child we had working BC's and Kelpies. I understand the importance of not over exercising dogs, particularly certain breeds, but our working pups would run along next to us on horseback until they couldn't run anymore, then they'd be piggy backed on the horse. The fellow next door breeds top notch working Kelpies and his pups go out with him all day and are expected to keep up In fact this is what all the farmers did when I was a kid. None of the dogs had joint issues, they would work all day and night if they could. My brother still has work dogs and pups are also expected to keep up. He has a new 7 month old who is out with him all day, everyday. Just wondering what has changed, aside from opinion? Are we breeding softer/weaker working breeds?
  3. I'm sorry It's never an easy decision to make.
  4. I groom quite a few too. I have also noticed that more have problems than not. I'm not dissing the breed, I love Cav's!! However they are probably the most unhealthiest breed I groom, without being the most popular. I always ask if from a reg'd breeder and it is usually around half half. Lately, I have been finding the temps either really really shy/nervy or slightly pyscho. They are a dog I would still consider getting in my retirement but I would certainly be doing mountains of research prior.
  5. How are the kennels being paid for efowler? Is there some way we can contribute if needed?
  6. Thanks SSM. Slowey didnt seem to suit a sight hound
  7. The remaining Exotic sounds sooo much like my cup of tea Boofy tabby male who is very laid back and clean!! Hopefully these last 4 will make it out to Wagga. I can't have males here.
  8. I used to soak my horses tails in sump oil before I went back to boarding school each term. It would keep their tails knot free while i was gone and then I would soak the tails in sunlight soap at the start of the hols to get it out. Old bushies trick!
  9. Is it just a wish because of the dogs? The girls I have here are lovely and adore all my boys.
  10. I wonder why he didn't just move. Very sad outcome, he must have been troubled despite Rocco.
  11. *eep* She is so cute! Does she have much brindle in her? Before you know it she will be literally eating your house
  12. What's done is done IMO. Just love your pup, chalk it up to experience for next time and hope he's healthy :) My main concern (aside form health) would be having an un papered bull breed who could easily be identified as a Pit bull. I think it's madness not to have a registered pure bred Stafford in this day and age with BSL. Anyway, still waiting on puppy pics to drool over :)
  13. This looks really good. I like the way it allows the dog back inside the zone should they get past it. I just had this installed www.hiddenfence.com.au. You don't have to bury the wire, you can clip it on to existing fence, but I opted for underground. My fencing cost me around $20k but recently one of the Maremmas started jumping it *massive eye roll* so I opted for Hidden Fence to keep him in (roughly $1000). Works a treat.
  14. Photos are a must!! Congrats
  15. Send an email to Dermcare and ask if any of their shampoos are suitable for sarcoptic (they are for demodex). If you explain the situation they may even donate the product to you.
  16. This was my understanding too. I believe Revolution is safe though *best to check with your vet first though in case I am wrong
  17. My neighbour has Ted's litter brother. He paid top dollar for him too and he has been repaid already tenfold through working him and saving on manpower. Awesome dog to watch on the move but a great temp too and doubles up beautifully as their family pet.
  18. I am so so sorry Beauie, just awful. What a loss for you *hugs*
  19. Ahhh politics .Thanks for answering. Rescue can certainly leave our pockets empty. Hope these poor dogs all pull through and find wonderful homes, they just look so sad
  20. Those poor dogs How can you afford to rehome them for free? Does it come out of your own pocket? Could you ask adopters to make a donation to help you with their costs? Just curious how you work it all out.:)
  21. Fingers crossed she gets the all clear medically.
