Though you are a sick girl,

Times now are a little tough.

You may not feel your very best,

but know that you are loved.

Find the strength to carry on

you are so very sweet,

We wish you well & prey to God,

you get back on your feet.....

Get better Girl

Stefie, I have a dog very much the same with me. Vets have been treating fluid build up from a bad heart but now their thinking a tumour on the spleen or liver. Hope May makes it through the night. We all have our fingers crossed

I had a husky for 6 yrs with same symptoms. Cassie. Took her to the vet, she was depressed and off food. I thought she was bloated due to drinking too much. We thought diabetes maybe. They did a PVC on her and found her belly to be full of blood. :( The vet suspected a tumour on the spleen also and feared she would have it on her liver. She did. All through her body, she was slowly bleeding to death. I had to have her PTS on the operating table, it was the hardest decision Ive ever had to make and it still haunts me. They said the cancer was through her whole abdomen, never in a million years did I expect to take my dog to the vet and bring her home in an urn. ;) she was only 6 - I had her from the day she was born to the day she died. When I first saw May and saw her belly, Cassie was the first thing that came to mind, I just hope its not as serious and she recovers.

Thank you so much, k9angel! What a beautiful little poem. It brought tears to my eyes.

May HAS to get better after that - she's got no choice!

Thank u all for ur kind words..

I was the one who got May out on Monday.

I am on my way now to vets. I tell you what saint francis is definetly sick of hearing my voice :rainbowbridge:

This morning i boiled her some chicken and cut it into pieces with some rice..i have taken her a bag of treats that i know she will like.

I did not know when i put my name on this girl that she was as sick as she was..

I got to the pound and saw her on the wet soaking floor and she would not get up..

I carried her out with my friend..

I then put her down and she could not stand on her feet she then collapsed... Sorry if i did not do the right thing and leave her and save another healthy dog like some people think, but i could not turn my back on her now :) I said merna get her to a vet immedietly and atleast if she is that sick and must go, she would atleast had eaten a nice meal which she did, chicken and rice which she loved..and she slept on the baby mattress with a warm blanket in my car with me... i could not leave her where she was.

It was an aweful aweful day... :)

I am not a selfish person to keep May alive for my own satisfaction.

I have a Rotti Named Rocky who has had congestive heart failure he is still going not suffering when he does i know it is the time. His belly got bigger and went on fluid tab and its been 3 yrs on he is living a normal life along with heart meds.

I am just about to leave to be with May... I have taken her cooked chicken and rice and shmackos and i will be by her side holding her hand if i must make that decision.. I i have never done this before.

I am very greatful to Norma who has been supportive on what i decide to do..

Atleast she would have had someone who loved her for a short period of time be with her, along with all the prayers u guys have said and ur thoughts and best wishes for her.. Plus ur donations to Dabs, and thanks stef for what u have done and the offer of meds from someone....

Thanks guys.

This princess will be in a better place if need be u can all trust me on that one!

May, in the time i knew u til now i have not given up hope and we all love u dearly and hope u make it..

If not may u rest in peace and run free with all ur friends.. U are one special girl i wish i had got to u earlier but this is the way it is meant to be. U never know guys maybe she makes it so i am staying positive.

I will let u know this evening the outcome.

Good luck May,you must have the angels with you to get this far beautiful girl, keep fighting sweetheart :rainbowbridge:

To the people that are fighting to keep May alive I send you all my positive thoughts, there are a lot of us that admire you and understand that what you do is very hard and would never judge you for who you rescue.Even if May passes over, at least it will be surrounded by people who cared and loved her enough to give her every chance when obviously nobody has in her past.

She is a very sick dog and should never have been released to rescue (or anyone else).

Mita.. you mentioned me in one fo your posts and i appreciate that you remember some of the harder cases i took on over the years... but with respect.. I would never have forced this poor, gravely ill dog to endure tests nor would I have prevented her from being released from her pain and suffering (even if it is at the pound).

Yes, I mentioned you because you paved the way for what's now being called shelter vet medicine. And some of the times, you had dogs which were in extremely sore state. I posted at the time that you should be writing a manual on the nursing that attempted to save such dogs.

For example, I recall your words & initial photos about Shelby. I recall how you posted your thoughts that it was her eyes & how she looked at you which were the only reasons that prompted you to take her in a parlous state. There was also the little dog, which eventually was adopted to someone in Tasmania. That dog made it to health after much effort & expertise.

I agree with you that a vet examination may indicate that May might be best released from this life. But I have no problem that any merciful PTS would be done by some folk who have chosen vet advice first & then possibly a less impersonal & even marginally more comfortable last times.

You made your choices. These folk are making their choices....which includes vet supervision re options. Also anyone wishing to contribute make their choice freely, based on information to hand. There's an element of risk in all actions. Always is & always has been, in every extreme case that's come up on DOL & in any call for contributions.

Just wanted to say that I, too, have been where you are now when I rescued a little pom from H/P a while back.

He was about 17 yrs old & not well. He travelled back with me from Sydney to Newcastle sitting on my front seat enjoying the warm sun & munching on roast chicken. He was ok that night but collapsed the next morning.

We fought for him for 2 days & had him at the all night vets both nights in intensive care. I then had a kind offer from an angel here on DOL to try & help through their vet care to see what they could do but he deteriorated too fast :rainbowbridge:

I had never had experiences like this before & it was heartbreaking for us all BUT............I WOULD DO IT ALL AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT as I know the little dear was given every chance & passed away with the knowledge he was already much loved.

To see his little "well worn" face looking at me in that sunlight & somehow letting me know he new he was out of that pound was what motivates us & allows our hearts to overule our heads at times - & I am grateful for that, as while we have that, we know we are still part of the decent side of humanity.

And by the way, he did cost me a fortune for those few days but I think I got my repayment in many other ways.

Mita and Esky ... well said.

Hey, Esky. I was thinking about you just yesterday and thought I hadn't seen you around for while, or have I just not seen you on the threads I've looked at?

Any news on May yet, Merna? You know you should all have laptops so you can update us from the vet hospitals :rainbowbridge: .

You are so right, Esky - I agree with every word you said!!!

If May won't be able to pull through, it is thanks to Stefie, Merna and DABS that she at least will be feeling loved and looked after before she goes. Where she truly suffered was in the pound, alone, abandoned and sick. Now, she has Merna by her side, and is warm and looked after.

Robert Frost once said in one of his poems:

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Thank you so much Merna, Stefie, Carole and Esky for taking the road less traveled by because that makes all the difference!

May is in my thoughts and I hope she will get well.

Hi Esky,

Was that the little chap with his tongue out to the side...I asked around after this little man as he also had that look of please....just someone love me for a while! I saw him on Senior rescue and asked Toots about him.

I am happy he got a last chance to chop on chook and be loved even for just a few days...

And Chinaplate...............dont ever feel bad for taking a poor soul from a dreadful situation and giving at least a chance of love even if it were just for a short time......she may (pardon the pun) rally and show that sometimes little miricles happen.

big hugs to May.

Hi all,

ok, here we go..

I waited anxiously at vets and i got to see May finally :)

She was looking very tired at first i though oh god she is the same! but she saw me and got so happy and started licking my face to death and sat right at my chest for a hug.

She got up and walked in front of me (slowly though)

Peter said that she has a very good appetite and she is drinking well.

She had an ultrasound today and the specialist who did it usually takes 20min tops pete said, but when he saw May he looked at several areas of her body and spent an hour on the ultra sound as he thought he would see cancer in her spleen or heart etc but he didnt ..

She has a congestive heart failure problems with her arteries and she has a murmour.

she has lost alot of blood from somewhere which they could not find where from the ultrasound, she also has 3 masses, i think in her somewhere i was too blank to remember , they did not know what the masses were... now i am not a vet it was complicated so this is what i remember.

Now she got up and we went and sat in the garden and she ate all the chicken and followed me around everywhere , i spent ages with her , cuddling her , kisses, pats , stroking her. I also got her a nice blanket to sleep on.. ;)

When i came to leave she cried... First time i heard her voice..

Peter said when i leave he will start her on some med for her anemia... if she seems ok and able to walk again and eat and drink i can take her into a home so she can be relaxed and live out what ever time she has left..

He DID NOT THINK i need to put her to sleep today..

He said we wait and see from now til Saturday..

She did not walk alot but she was better than the day i got her..

So guys i have hope ..

Peter phoned norma today and said if May keeps eating and is able to walk and drink then he was happy for her to go into my care on saturday...

I said as long as she is not in pain and suffering i will keep her.

Cross my fingers she will progress even more tomorrow...

Atleast i know i can have the opportunity for her to spend her last moments in a home  I HOPE!

Hi, no the pom with the tongue out to the side is Jen Jen & she was taken in by the lovely Toots & is still with us as far as I know ;)

The little pom I was talking about was a male & I called him Jerry. He was one of my first "solo" rescues & there were many frantic threads about him posted here as I was so confused what to do.
