Niques, had to just tell you after our earlier posts that I had to leave Badger for 3 and a half hours this evening while we went out and when we got back, he was beside himself with joy! Was so excited to see us! So obviously I have to go out for a decent length of time for him to really miss me.. :(

Aww, how sweet :o

James has discovered the art of licking, so I've been slobbered to death today. When he's not trying to chew the buttons of my shirt, that is.

Poppyx, I'm sorry to hear about the delay ;) Have you picked a name for your girl yet?

Jangels is such a squishy little guy! Happy 9 weeks to him! We considered going for a yellow lab at one point, but black was the original idea so we decided not to waver. Yellow labs have the most expressive faces though! Our breeder sent out a slideshow of piccies from the pups' first 8 weeks and all the photos of the yellow puppies are just wonderful.

James too, turns 9 weeks old today! We finally got around to weighing him and freaked out that he was underweight until some googling was done, and apparently he's spot on  He's finishing most of his meals now and I think is actually chubbing up a little. Must keep an eye on that.

Has anyone's puppy seen the vet yet? James' next vaccination isn't until the end of the month and we've been tossing up whether or not to give him a general checkup beforehand.

Niques Yes he is a squishy little guy. We are 'one eyed' yellow or we call cream as we always pick the lightest. As I am writing this I can hear another argument

downstairs between Jangels and hubby. He must be telling him to stop biting or something and Jangels has to have to have the last say. Very hard to be serious as it is so funny. Jangels has his next vaccination (2nd of 3) next Friday 12th. My opinion on a checkup unless you are worried about something it's not really necessary. Just my thoughts. No worries here on Jangels finishing his meals :o Typical lab!! Happy 9 weeks to James too!

Awww Jangles is gorgeous :( I can't wait till we get our Lab.

Thanks Gumnut When do you get yours & what colour & sex?

I have put my name down with a breeder whose bitch is due this month but since putting my name down I have decided to try my hand at showing, this breeder doesn't show and after some wonderful advice from a fellow forumite I have decided to go with a breeder who actually shows, I am going to see their show dogs soon but her litter isn't due till April.

I still haven't got up the courage to ring the first breeder and take my name off the list :crossfingers:

I would love a black female.

Niques, Badger is having his second vacc on Monday.. (He'll be 10 weeks old) I didn't take him for a check up before cos he's so healthy and active and eating well and even if the vet found a heart murmer or something, we knew we'd still keep him.. I guess if you're worried about something, you should take them earlier...

i will keep watching the thread and hearing how all your babies are going, till i have a definate date to post and then my countdown will begin!

Justaquick EDIT: checked my email and have recieved note from owner, always good to see, so next week she should be coming down if all goes well. i have suggested the 19th for a travel date - i hope this is okay with them - Fingers Crossed!! :crossfingers:

Hi Everyone

I have been watching this thread for a few weeks now and thought it was about time I posted.

It is so wonderful to hear the news of everyones new pups and being able to follow there development.

We are getting a Hungarian Vizsla pup on the 25th March, Costa. We live in Darwin and there are no breeders here so he is coming from South Australia.

He is also 9 weeks today like a lot of the other pups on here, but we weren't able to take leave from work until closer to Easter so we have decided to wait till we have time off to welcome him into our household. His litter mates have left, but he gets on well with the breeders dogs and the breeder has started training him so he won't miss out during this important stage of his life.

We decided back in October last year it was time to get a Vizsla, we have always loved the breed and promised ourselves that when the time was right we would get one, and that time is finally here, I can't wait!!!

I have bought a few toys, dog bowls, ordered the crate online (hasn't arrived yet), just have to get a bed to put into his crate, any ideas?

Thats all from me for now.

Cheers

Hi Costa's Mum.. :crossfingers:

Always nice to welcome new people to this thread..

At the moment Badger just has a fleecy blanket in his crate.. His snuggly dog bed does fit in it but it has just been so hot lately I think he'd cook in it.. :(

Poppyx.. Hope the 19th works out for everybody.. Holding thumbs all goes according to plan - on your side as well as the breeders..

Hi Costas Mum,

we have snoozies in our dogs crates, they have a sheepskin look and are padded and washable. Ours love them so much we also have them in the back of the 4wd and on the floor! NOt that they are often on the floor! I know you can get them at the big pet place where the discount chemist and WOW are, can't remember the street name! but its only 10 mins from palmerston on a major corner, I"m sure you would have been past it. I got mine in QLD and they come in black or cream. They are still good after 5 years of constant use and washing.

Dont' forget to put pics up in the vizsla thread in breed pages!!!!! :happydance2::thumbsup: xxx

Hi everyone,

Costasmum ~ Wow thats a first, most breeds (all breeds) are always interstate, and you actually found a breeder in SA  sorry but SA don't normally have that many breeders and here I find they have the Vizsla

Wow those getting pups on the 19th, I'll be thinking of you, its my 48th Birthday :happydance2: we were going out for a double celebration as its OH's Birthday on the 15th, he'll be 65, but money is tight and bills come first so we had to cancel. But my daughter has decided to do dinner for us :grimace: so we will go there.

JakeyJangles ~ I have 4 grandchildren and the one on the way  I love being a grandmother. I can do what I want, spoil them rotten, and the best part give them back, and have nanny naps when I want.....I hope our new pup likes naps too

As for seeing the vet, I never used to go unless they are sick or need their vaccinations. But they do recommend you see the vet within a week of getting your pup. Mostly I think to check the pup is healthy and is exactly what you just forked out money for. Plus it gives your pup a chance to meet the vet without having any bad experiences (like vaccinations, some dogs scream the house down). I think I will be taking my pup for a check up, but thats more for my peace of mind than anything else. Plus I want to get pet insurance for the dog, and if the vet gives it a clean bill of health you stand a better chance later if the pup does come down with something or has a medical or hereditary problem, as the insurer might fight the cover. But the first history of the pup is in good health they can't fight it. Just a heads up on that.

Poppyx - make sure you call around for quotes on the flight. Ours was really reasonable - $140 with jetpets. :happydance2:

i i shopped around alright! i emailed every one i could find someone quoted me $400! the cheapest i have got so far is $220 so we think we'll go with them, jet pets were $50 more expensive than these guys .

140 is cheeaaap! did that include crate hire?

Yea, it included crate hire. I think I may have gotten it when it was on special though. That's a shame you can't find anything cheaper, $220's alright though, who's that with?

Poppyx, Briar Rose is a pretty name!

Welcome, Costa's Mum! I hope the next couple of weeks fly by for you. That's great to hear that he's getting well-socialised with the breeder's other dogs!

Happy birthday for the 19th, Bluefairy (and your OH)! Your daughter sounds lovely

Thanks for the input on seeing the vet, everyone. We don't have any specific concerns and he's already met his (potential - there's one other in the practice who does small animals) vet as we're friends with them. I think we'll just hold off til his 12 week vaccination.

James is a firm fan of rose bushes. How he hasn't been scratched or cut his mouth yet is beyond me, but he loves curling around them, chewing on the wood (thorns and all) and eating the rosebuds. He had lovely rose breath the other day :happydance2:

Yes we are the same with our grandkids, spoil them rotten & send them home :grimace: I too love the nanna naps. Makes a lot of sense your explanation of seeing the vet. As we are thinking of pet insurance also. So thanks for sharing that  Hope you have a happy day on the 19th too.

Welcome Costa's mum - not long for you - how exciting. I don't know what to put in my crate either - as Jax said, I guess it depends if it's hot or cold.

PoppyX - glad you've got a final date now - I'm sure it will all work out for you.

Monah - those Snoozies sound good - I'd better Google that.

Bluefairy - Happy Birthday to you and your OH, have a lovely dinner.

Niques - you'd think James could have found something easier than rose bushes to fall in love with - what a funny puppy!

KritalJay - where are you? How are things going?
