The thing is I don't know if I will truly end up showing. I will do agility and obedience, I want to try showing but don't know if I will really end up doing it. my husband and kids reckon I won't do it and if I do it will only be one or two shows then I'll stop as it will be too strict for me.

If you have the right people around you, and meet some lovely people showing, I can guarantee you will like it! I'm only new to the show world, have a whole 6 shows under my belt!

To me, it's fun. I'm only showing a neuter at the moment, so the pressure and competition is less but it's great to learn in that sort of group (similar to baby puppy I would imagine, I didn't start until Cleo was 6 months old).

My breed mentor and breeder of my next pup is also my good friend now. We catch up at shows and compete as well, and she introduced me to more lovely dally people who took the time out to work with my girl, lent me a different show lead to try and complimented my girl to boot!

also - every judge I've met so far has been kind and patient! Until my last 2 shows I was a nervous wreck, bumbling around and messing up - I may not have won but they were still kind. I now have 12 points under our belt and can't wait to get into the ring with an entire dog!

Something for me to consider, I have a few friends that show, one was telling me how her pup did really well one day but the second day she had a different judge and got nothing. It's really hard to know what is a good show dog. I've been offered two partnerships in pups but don't think I want to go down that path.

showing is a fun day out for both the dog and owner. For the few I have been to most people seem lovely.

As long as your pup meets the standard it will be fine but yes what one judge sees as the best dog on the day can be different to another as we all interpret things differently.

Enjoy your puppy cuddles and you never know the one you like might be show quality.

Agree wholeheartedly with this statement, and it is the first and foremost reason Sumo and I participate :) I enjoy spending the day with like-minded people and talking about our prides and joys together in a way you can't do with "non-doggy" friends. It's also an awesome opportunity to socialise your pup with heaps of other people and dogs.

At the end of the day, I'm thrilled if the judge likes Sumo, and it's so pleasing when people compliment me on him, but either way I still know I have the best dog in the world :D We don't take it too seriously.

Nova and I met a Great Dane breeder/exhibitor at lunch today. Very nice people, gave us lots of hints for the show coming up :)

That sounds promising Lisa, I find most show people are lovely and only too willing to help :) When will Nova and yourself being debuting?

Probably at the Wagga show, so early October.

It still depends on whether his breeder still thinks he has potential in a few months. I'd be happy to stick to sports if he doesn't. :)

Not too long away then depending on what his breeder says, I think he Nova is stunning.

Introducing "Casper" 7 weeks old, we can go bring him home in 2 weeks

Welcome Casper, your gorgeous. Do you have much puppy preparation to keep you busy for the next few weeks fairystar?

Casper is gorgeous :) ... congrats - I hope the next 2 weeks goes quickly for you :D

Hows Finn doing this week? Settling in well?

Casper is gorgeous! Congratulations, the last two weeks are the hardest smile.gif

Thanks Whippy, I have little idea what makes a dogs go from 'nice' to show potential. I can tell the ones that are from working lines though laugh.gif

But the Dane breeders we met thought he was stunning and 'unique markings to what we currently see in the ring' which according to them may work for or against him.

He doesn't have the flashy white markings which I have noticed are in a lot of shows. Surely there are better things than colour though :)

I have noticed the dogs that win of all breeds move really nice and smoothly :)

Any puppies coming home this weekend?

No but 2 sleeps until I get to go see two prospective boxer puppies. I was hoping the hubby would be home this weekend to keep me focused and stop me from saying yes to both but it looks like he will be away. Wonder if the kids will be able to keep me on the up and up.

How did you go today BoxerBright?

Well I have come to the realisation never go puppy looking with your children. I walked away NOT being the owner of a new puppy, but my daughter walked away being the owner of a new puppy instead (what can you do when your kids work and can pay for their own things). Looks like my show dog will have to wait a bit longer now, but she is cute. She is 6 weeks old so another 2 weeks and she will join our clan. I must admit though out of all the puppies we looked at today and there ended up being a lot, 5 litters in total, she was the one that seemed to take to us the most and most of all really took to my 3yr old son. I don't think I can push my luck with owning 4 dogs though, so hubby has promised me that when one of our older dogs ventures to Rainbow Bridge, I can buy another pup and then get the one that I really want. Gives me a lot of time to attend shows and check out other dogs. I am however going to do obedience and agility with this girl. I used to do it with my other 2 and really enjoyed it so hopefully she does too and we can have lots of fun.

Congratulations on your new family member Boxbright. She is gorgeous, and obviously was meant to be part of your family.

I look forward to seeing many more pics as your (daughter's) puppy grows. She will be great practice for when you get to choose your own puppy.
