I picked up my grey yesterday after a week in the kennels and he didnt want to know me. Got him home and my other grey was soooo excited to see him but he wasnt interested, she spent all afternoon trying to get him to play but he just wanted to lay on his bed, He usually likes to lay on the couch next to me not on the floor. He does seem a little happier today though

He could be having a little sulk  My cats do it to me when I come home from being overseas for months at a time, but it only lasts a day at most, and don't get me started on my dog who absolutely refuses to acknowledge my existence! Watch him and if he seems to be physically fine, I'd give it a few hours or a day.

My puppy sulks. If she's being silly and whizzing around my feet and I accidentally step on her, she goes and ignores me and sulks in the corner for fifteen minutes or so. A few years back when I came home from overseas, one of my cats refused to see me as well, so I think all animals sulk to some degree.

I don't think they 'sulk' like humans... I think, because they mostly live in the moment, that a change of environment-even back home, somewhat disrupts them ..and leaves them a bit confuddled

Some dogs don;t seem to be affected, tho.

Dogs also react to body language etc.. so pick up on anything which may be happening with you.

Sometimes, too, after being in a kennel- the learned behaviour is to lie & sleep a lot... so it is carried on for a short time at home again....

I have found that often the new environment/routine/socialisation can create a very relaxed and 'tired' seeming dog  This wears off once home and back into normal anticipatory behaviour

When I was in year 9 at school, we went away for an entire term (it was one of those "development" camps that was supposed to keep us out of trouble!), and I swear it took my dog at least a week to even look at me when I got home. He eventually got over it and we were back to normal pretty soon after.

that makes sense persephone he has gone from his trainer to the pound to my home to the GAP kennels and now back home so has spent alot of time in kennels . After many fosters i also believe that dogs live in the moment. I am sure he will soon settle back to his own self

I have a dog who is a master sulker! Every time I have to tether her up at dog club, which is inside the clubrooms and I'm always a few metres away, she insists on turning her back on me.

Never does it any other time.

No question - dogs can sulk!

It can simply be stress. I left my malinois at the kennel for a week, a few months back, and when she got home she didn't want to know me - just wanted to sleep for 24 hours - exactly how she acts when something really stresses her out. THEN she got really happy to be back!

Yes, I think they sulk. But it's different to being blue. Kivi gets blue when he comes home from my parents' house where there are lots of dogs, and when OH's parents leave after they stay for a few days. He goes quiet and inactive. He sulks when I do something to him like put smelly stuff on him, or brush him all over, or take him for a hydrobath and blow dry him. He'll go and lie on his bed, which he never does any other time. My last dog was the queen of sulking. She would go and lie in a corner and refuse to make eye contact. If I went over to her she'd turn her head away from me. If I called her she'd refuse to budge. It was this game we'd go through where she would hold out for as long as she could while I would try to entice her out of the sulkfest.

Fair enough- tho I would perhaps interpret this as him feeling physically uncomfortable ..and going to a 'safe' spot - his bed ..

One of mine once sat in the corner facing the wall and would not look at me after I cut her nails. She wouldn't even take treats! So I don't know what exactly was going through her mind, but it certainly looked like sulking to me.

I think Perry sulks. I recently went to NZ for a long weekend - away from Thursday afternoon to late Monday night. When I came in she covered my face with kisses and then sat down with a look on her face which seemed to say "Wait a minute, you went away and left me" and went and lay under the dining table with her back to me. she did not get over it until the next day when I was unpacking the case and she came to see if I had brought her a present.

But why would it be "safe" if he never uses it? There are heaps of places he typically lies where he might feel safe, but I could count the times he's chosen to lie on his bed on one hand. He only has one because I feel mean for giving Erik something cuddly and soft and leaving Kivi to the floor. If he wants to hide from me, he goes under the deck or into the garden.

Do bears **** in the woods?

Krnny won't talk to me for days after he has been in kennels, even if I stay out overnight, it takes him a couple of hours to come to me for a pat, or lie on the couch.

:thanks::eek: I used to have a dog like yours. She would literally go towards the corner of the kitchen and turn her back to me.
