SwaY Posted July 30, 2010 Share Posted July 30, 2010 As printed in the August Dogs Vic gazette Insert new Regulation 3.3.9 3.3.9 Pregnant Bitches Due to the associated health risks it is strongly recommended that bitches do not participate in exhibition after being mated. The following restriction is mandatory. 3.3.9.1 A bitch is prohibited from exhibition for the period four [4] weeks after mating until ten [10] weeks after whelping. 3.3.9.2 A bitch that fails to conceive may resume exhibition. Wouldn't this be better served to fall under a general "fit for function" type banner where the dog should not be awarded if it is noticeably underweight/overweight, pregnant or lactating? What about sporting competitions? Would it apply to pregnant agility bitches too? Is this an ANKC ruling or just Dogs Vic? Questions, questions...... Still the 10 weeks post whelping rule as she has not been looking after babies until weaning. I wouldn't show my bitch after 4 weeks in whelp anyway, but my bitch was in the ring 9 weeks after whelping a singleton and looked like she hadn't even been looking after a baby. I am new to the world of dog and happy to be corrected but surely pregnant doesn't = invalid. Pregnancy is a condition not a disease Would you suggest that a woman stay inside and avoid all human contact once she is 4 months pregnant? My pups are 33 days old today, and their Mum is going well. CC ps If someone's going to the Prez & Sec meeting tomorrow, could they find out? I shall be stewarding at my breed club's Agility trial a 100 metres or so away from the meeting - haven't these officials got a dog event to help at? I do know for a fact that there have been people tracking bitches in whelp when they have just a week to go before their due date. Stopping that ever happening again, I'm all for.
