Was there on Friday with our foster dog in the rescue dog zone - seemed a busy show which was good :-) Was well set out at least - not jammed in and I liked that they used the 2nd floor for space. We had lots of people come and say hello to our dogs (We had a puppy there as well) :) Been a good weekend by the sounds of it.

The lack of prices on products really annoyed me as well, I am not a patient shopper I don't do wait around to ask pricing on stuff (hence why I spent no $s).

Went today, met a few lovely DOLers and got lots of Lappie & Aussie cuddles and great info on those breeds for my next prospective dog. They were all very lovely people and helpful in answering my questions. I hung around the Rottie stand for a while too, as usual. Grumpette, always so lovely to catch up with you, but I missed MrR, maybe we really couldn't see each other without Rotties in tow!

Came home with a new toy for the cat but overall found it really very very crowded, a bit too busy for my liking, but was a good enjoyable show nonetheless.

This was our stall at the Dog Lovers Show over the weekend. We had the most amazing group of dogs and handlers over the three days who all did our breed extremely proud. They were all absolutely brilliant ambassadors.

A huge thank you to Sam with Fire and Flint, Denise with Stone and Arwyn, Katrina with Merlin and Bella, Lisa and Kira, Louise who handled Fire, Stacey with Naja and Lotus, Joanne with Cruiser and myself and Zephyr. A huge congratulations to you all on a brilliant job.

I was really happy to attend the show. We had a great space that was well set up and there was plenty of space for visitors within and outside the stall. It was brilliant having the gardens as the toilet area because it meant that there was no awful smell due to only having a small area for all the dogs to toilet, like has happened at other expos/shows that I have been to. It was well set out and I even made a few great purchases that thrilled the dogs left at home :D

We were there today and met Flint and what a lovely dog he is. We also meet a couple of Lappies, some beautiful Bernese Mountain dogs and I finally got to see an Italian Spinone. All the dogs were so well behaved considering the huge amount of people there and were a credit to their owners

I was not overly impressed with it, but it is only the first year. Got a couple of freebies. But was not tempted to spend stupid amounts of money on stuff my dogs don't need (collars and cutesy coats, treats and dry food). Stopped to say hello to the JRT stand and didn't even get a hello from the two women manning it :(. To bad if my mum and I were general public wanting to know about the breed.

It was a good day out with my favourite people though .

What day did you go in, Clover?

I was there on Saturday at the Lappie stand, along with Armahani and two of her dogs and another club member with her young boy. I had a chance to have a quick look around and talk to people from a couple of other breed stalls - one of the ladies at the Boxer stand turns out to have dogs related to my lovely old boxer girl, which was rather nice to discover :) I got to meet the Spinone and a lovely little Chow, as well.

Tarja had to stay home, but apparently the deer antler I got for her was awesome enough to compensate her slightly

How very dare they be at a relevant event pushing their relevant agendas. Why, I couldn't bear to be in the same exhibition hall with them. Someone might think I supported them!:eek:

LOL Corvus

I would have thought it would have been a good idea to turn up and promote pedigree dogs regardless of who is there? If we don't get out and be noisy then we can't whinge that more people don't know about pedigree dogs.

Totally agree, Lhok. Squeaking wheel gets the oil and all that.

If anyone has an agenda they believe is worthwhile, they can't whinge if they aren't going to spruik it, while someone else spruiks theirs which might be the opposite or they may not agree with.

All well said, DD, Corvus & Lhok.

Get balance into it. Pedigree dogs & their benefits to the world of welfare and human companionship, need to be put out there.

What amazes me is that registered breeders & their pedigree dogs are the only ones with solid research behind what they contribute as companion dogs.... yet they're so often out of the public eye on why this is so.

So instead of a battle-field mentality... & on the basis of those strengths... do some influencing with the Oscar's Law folk to fill in the big gap in their aims. That is, how dogs can be best be brought into this world & raised so they're at lesser risk of adding to the dog welfare problem.

Grumpette, I just saw your post how your breed represented itself at the Show. You did exactly what I'd be hoping for... & other breed clubs taking part, too..

But why should I be surprised about the Rottie Club of Victoria. I've never stopped praising them over the years. Like for:

.Best article on the importance of socialisation & how it's done.... on their website.

.Best radio interview where a representative of the club explained the above, succinctly & clearly.

.Best response from a club spokesperson after a 'Rottie' was implicated in an attack.

.Best featuring of how adult dogs turns out when well-socialised, via Rotties in the Dogs Vic pet therapy program (among other breeds).

.Best example of how show-dogs can be superb as companion pets, via the 'show' Rotties (& other breeds) used in that program.

:thumbsup::thumbsup: Yeah for Rotties. LOL.

Mita about a thousand years ago, I worked for the Commonwealth Games Foundation when they were held in Brisbane in 1982. My boss was the Marketing Manager and our department was responsible for all the Concessions, Games Souvenirs, Sponsors, Product, Media concessions, etc etc etc --- huge job. Many sponsors of product acknowledged that they weren't involved necessarily to make money, but rather they were there for exposure and as such they edged out their competition.

Important lesson.

I went and enjoyed meeting the dogs. We rehomed a Griffon last year and I was totally in love with her, so nice to see the Griffons, they deserve to be much better known. I kind of concur with the opinion that the breeders on some stands could have been a bit more outgoing. The woman with with gorgeous Clumber Spaniel was great, and the guys showing the AmStaffs did a wonderful job of showcasing their breed. as did the Chow Club. All of the dogs were wondeful, particularly the Shar Pei who was party central all on her own, a great ambassador for Shar Pei Rescue.

I'd level the same criticism at the Rescue Zone. Lots of young and passionate rescuers, but not much in the way of people skills. So instead of drawing people in, they just waited for people to talk to them.

I'd rather like to have seen a bit more depth in the education and in the commercial stalls. It was all very "Joe Public" and I'd have liked some of the specialist book sellers, or even individual products. At Equitana there's a lot of depth in the education segments, which are worth the price of admission all on their own.

Still, it was a nice day out and I saw some lovely dogs and caught up with friends.

I met a young lady at Petrescue she had a cute black dog on a lead and I swear 80% of the dog was a Schipp X but she was calling it a Pom X.

She wouldn't really listen to me when I presented her with some pics of my guys to show that the dog she had was soooo much like my guys.

So not sure what criteria they use to label their breeds.

I was talking to a young woman in the rescue zone who had a Lab-sized dog with a lovely blue coat. I asked what breed was it and she declared "Mastiff X". I gently suggested Weimeraner X. No sale. LOL
