I picked up this lens this evening - what a beast!!

I only got a chance to get a quick dozen hand held shots when I got home, this is the best of the bunch. Will certainly need practice hand holding this, I think my monopod will get more use now  Looking forward to giving it a good test run at the weekend :)

I know, I missed the tail :o

what does it weigh? Can you take a photo of the lens, I want to see the beast.

S'ok, I looked it up. Congratulations, I know we'll be seeing some amazing shots from you.

Finally edited my shots from the field day at the weekend, so here are a few of them :) Pretty pleased with the lens so far, but have only had the one real outing with it. I'm planning to go to a lake in Perth at the weekend, so should be able to give it a good test with birds.

Shooting at 600mm is a steep learning curve, the slightest movement is amplified! I had it on a monopod for the day and it was manageable weight-wise :)

Thanks Pers :)

Got out to the lake today with RV and had a fun time with the lens. Quickly realised the monopod is no good for birds, so ended up handholding the beast for a few hours!

Only edited this one so far, hopefully get round to the others tomorrow.

That photo is definitely in the class of "I wish I'd taken that"... WOW!!!

A tip about the weight issue and using hand-held... you DO get used to it if you do it often enough... I've built biceps and decent shoulder strength since getting my 100-400... lol! When I switch to a shorter lens nowadays it all feels so light...

Looking forward to more awesome photos from your new lens CC.
