Argh....

Blood cell count way too low to do chemo again...

We have to wait until at least Friday for another blood test to check levels... So now chemo will be a least a week late again...

He is fine - munching on half a scotch finger biscuit on the lounge (he is so spoilt  )... But worth more than all the lounge covers in the world

Jodie

You don't think Ollie's tampering his own blood cell count, now do you ...... just for all the added benefits? Maybe pushing for Tim Tams? ;)

Sorry, Jodie. The news is not good and is damn frustrating. I do admire the way you seem to handle all these set backs. Good on you. Take care of yourself (and Ollie dog, of course! :()

Thanks guys...

I get so frustrated with the ups and downs sometimes...

I am not going to continue the chemo once this protocol finishes (if it ever does)... He has had enough of blood test and all the other stuff that goes with the chemo treatments... And so have I to be honest. I really don't think it has made any difference to how the cancer is progressing - the same tumours are still there and yes they do go up and down but that is pretty standard for the type of cancer he has...

Thanks for listening to me all the time...

Jodie

ETA: I think I get so frustrated because he looks and acts so well 90% of the time - it is like he is not really sick...

Jodie,

I do know how you feel....even if Lucinda has not undergone chemo.

But we need to try to keep in mind that Lucinda and Ollie know nothing about what they have been diagnosed with. They may have down days..but they bounce back, I think because they have no preconceived ideas about what is happening. If they feel good then for them thats to be taken advantage of..( unlike humans who can waste a lot of quality time pondering the future ). Dogs are great examples of "carpe diem" grasp the day. We can all learn from them.

we are having a bit of a down time. yesterday Oscar, Lucindas litter brother was at the vet. 3rd time this tear. previous visits, blood tests etc have revealed nothing but yesterday ..xrays show that there is something very nasty going on - heart and lungs involved and that bloody C word has poppped up again, as well as possible heart failure. So I am trying to practice what i preach and desperately grasping for the day... Thursday afternoon should bring more information from the specialist. Its not bloody fair!

scotch fingers just might be responsible for an increase in white blood cells. I think Ollie is just doing a little responsible research.

Thinking of you all, you too dogbesotted and that bit about the dogs seize the day attitude is simply wonderful. :(

Helen, I do hope you get good news for Oscar... We will keep you and the pooches in our thoughts and prayers...

We are OK, every now and then I just do the head banging thing to get the frustration out of my system...

Most of the time, you would never even know Ollie was ill.. He still loves all his usual things...

Sending lots of good thoughts to Oscar and the lovely Lucinda...

What a sad, shitty time...

Ollie's down, Kal's down and now Oscar is ill :(

I'm so sorry you are having such a rough time at the moment, nothing I can say will help, but I'm thinking of you all anyway.

Special hugs to you Jodie

Yesterday's blood work came back great, so he had his chemo this afternoon... ;)

He just had dinner (half HSD/UD and half chicken and veges) and ate it all in a matter of seconds - he just swallows it without chewing some nights...

Ollie is very bouncy and happy this week and it makes me so happy when he is like this - I secretly wish it was like this everyday...

Our vet informed me today that there are only two more intravenous and one more oral chemo sessions left in his protocol... Once this is completed, I don't know if I should put him through another one... My thoughts are quite confused over this decision sometimes and quite clear at other times... I guess the decision will be made when the time comes to decide - no point in planning ahead when you have a dog with a terminal illness. Just living day to day is the most precious thing to do...

Cheers for now

Yay! way to go Ollie!

Jodie i am so pleased Ollie is having a great UP time! So is lucinda..she is disgustingly perky at the moment. Put on her very best slavering savage dog act for the man delivering the water this week...I was delighted to see that ( dunno if the bloke on the receiving end was tho LOL). Oscar is on the improve too ( not what we were suspecting ..it appears that altho his heart is slightly enlarged ( acceptable for his age according to specialist) but the breathing is due to thickened bronchial passages...so he is on pred for a short time..his has been much happier and much more comfortable since then. Have appt with Sue for this afternoon to see if we can put together something less harsh for him.

Please give ollie dog heaps of smooches from me..I really miss those bully snuggles, kisses and snorts and snores.

Yep the lad is doing well - dare I say it... He was bouncing off the back of the lounge last night trying desperately to get OH beany off his head - it is a game he has played since he was tiny... So funny to watch - a grown man and a stafford fighting over a beany...

He is doing the 'look at me, I am starving' thing again all the time... I had his T4 checked with the bloods this time and they were fine, so perhaps he is just being cheeky...

Still need to make time to call the girls from all natural vet care and chat about the slippery elm for his tummy... Have been horribly sick this week myself, so have not been able to do much of anything - except lay in bed and check on DOL...

Such good news about Lucinda and Oscar - fingers crossed it all keeps going well...

Have not had a chance to check on Kal's thread but will do later on... Hoping all is going OK for her and Erny...

Cheers

Jodie

Hi Jodie

Great news about Ollie. It's been quite cheering to read of the "up" days Ollie, Lucinda and Oscar are having, and of course I'm still delighted that Pampa's girl came through ok and that Rusky's "Goldie" seems to be improving too.

Kal has her up and down days and there's still things we're checking out. I'll leave you to read her thread, but only when you feel better yourself. I hope there's someone around who can take care of you to wellness the same as you've taken care of Ollie. If you do, then I expect you'll be bouncing off the back of the lounge too before long!

I hate Macrolone... Ollie has been back on it for a couple of weeks now and it makes him so thirsty... He drinks 3 to 4 litres of water a day... And now has taken to peeing on the new tiled floor...

He was really easy to toilet train as a little tacker and now it is almost like he has forgotton.. At least it is on the tiles and not the carpet...

I will ask the vet about it when we go back in a week or so, but thought I would ask if anyone else has any idea why a nearly 9 year old dog would forget his toilet training???

TIA

Jodie

Hi Jodie! :) I hope you are feeling better. ;)

If Ollie is seeking out the tiles to go on then I'd suggest he's not forgotten his toilet training, but just can't make it to the right spot in time. Of course, there is the factor that medication can affect their bladder control and when they've had an 'accident' once or twice, the memory of that might lead to a habit?

Eg. Kal has been taught to go around to the back yard. When I had turf laid down to form a grassed track from the front to the back, I taught her not to pee on that (her pee kills grass something chronic). When she was feeling very down (after the seizure) and weak, she went across to the grass track and peed on it. I don't think she had the strength to walk further.

Now, even though she can manage it quite well, I notice that she goes back to the grass track when she thinks I'm not looking. :D

Oh well .... the spot she pees on has clover weed growing in it, so at least she's killing that for me. :)

Jodie,

It is most likely the effects of the pred...poor lad probably cant hang on. Lucinda used to stagger to the water bucket, drink what seemed like gallons, stagger away pee, then return for more water. she was so thirsty and sometimes even peed and drank at the same time.

Erny could be on to something with the comment that Ollie is perhaps remembering peeing on the tiles. Can you get some spray on deoderiser from the vet to take away any remaining urine smell ( which his oh so sensitive doggy nose will be picking up)

Hugs to Ollie dog
