Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread
JulesP replied to megan_'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
To my mind it doesn't matter what Jake's temperament is like, he was on lead the other dog wasn't. But I can understand your reluctance to make a fuss. I returned 3 little yappers last week (on separate occasions). All 3 acted very aggressively towards my dogs, just lucky that mine didn't react. Think they are getting used to me rounding up stray dogs! So tea and sympathy from me. I hope you aren't feeling too sore. -
Lovely son in law put a cap on it so that bits all good. Trouble is the connections burst off when I bathed the dogs Next step is to try some better hose fittings. I'm glad I am using it outside. Yes the connection popped off in the laundry. I had water fountaining out the door  You could try that white tape. I've put it on every connection because I know they have a rep for being leaky.

How did you go Gretel? I adapted one today for outside tapes. Just got a couple of caps from Reece for the washing machine connection bits.

Saw this today at the pet shop near Harvey Norman at Chirnside, Vic :)

agree - however - if teeth are present , but have not descended ? That would be an extra problem./expense an owner could well do without , I think ..... This is the sort of fault that I would be concerned about. A kinky tail or the wrong ear set = no problems for a pet. But actual physical things would bother me, so much can go wrong with them as it is.

Joint Health Protection/prevention

You feed runny stuff so would be ok with a powder at least. I mainly feed dry or a bone so found it annoying which is why I use the chews. -
Joint Health Protection/prevention

I use the PAWS chews because they are easy to give. Poppy does have issues and there was a marked improvement with the chews. I have also given her Joint Guard but don't think that was any better for her than the chews. -
I don't know if the teeth thing is a problem in a Chi but I would be aiming to buy a puppy without obvious faults. Good luck, your puppy is out there!

No zoom groom isn't just for bathing. I think they work better on shorter coats though. Mason Pearson brushes are good
-
Don can you set up something to film them when you aren't there? I would be interested to see if they carry on with you not around.

Here is how I set up my crate/pen for my last puppy.

Me & the dogs got attacked by a Pom yesterday The border collies were like 'wtf'. I had to go and knock on the door to let them know their dog was out, I did fear for my ankles!
-
Poppy would hate one of those. The only slicker that she likes is the Les Pooch one.
-
What brushes are you using? Poppy objects unless the brush is super gentle. I used one of those big square human paddle brushes on her yesterday and she liked that.

I had my border collies in the house until a certain age and then they went outside. Didn't have an issue. But I have at least 2 dogs. I don't think I would put a single dog outside at night. One of the puppies hated being in the house when the others were outside so he went out earlier then normal. I had a bitch that really mothered the puppies too though. None of this is fair on the neighbors anyway. Yes I would ignore a crying puppy normally but not if it was disturbing other people.
-
I personally would not have a puppy of that age sleeping outside by itself.
-
No complaint was filed with council. They called the council who told them to do the letter thing first. This council isn't super proactive with pet stuff. We have a 24/7 cat curfew that they have asked residents to police!
-
No you can't just ignore night time barking unless you want to really piss your neighbors off. Can he sleep in the laundry/bathroom/kitchen?
-
In particular I would be checking her for copper storage liver disease.
-
I would suggest getting a full blood test first to see if anything is going on with her health.
-
The neighbor with the barking dogs just came round! He asked his other neighbor about the letter and they told him that I had been around the night before with the same letter. I did tell him who the letter had come from. They had been using barking collars but have left them off for a few months. The dogs are annoying but I would probably rather have their dogs barking then a couple that had really loud parties all the time! I kind of feel bad for dobbing them in too
-
I spoke to all the neighbors last night!
-
I'm going to be tense every time the dogs make a noise now! Interestingly everyone thought it was really gutless to give me a unsigned letter. Also feeling pretty annoyed today that the people admitted that they didn't know which dogs it was but still delivered the letter. Wouldn't you want to be pretty sure before you did that?
