I would suggest getting your dog's liver checked before doing anything else. -

JulesP replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I prefer BARF as per the book. Not the patties. -

Keeping My Future Pugs Young And Healthy

I thought heart worm was transmitted via mosquitos? Oh is it? I don't know why my vet said that then. Sorry  Mosquitoes can be pretty rare along the coast, I've received similar advise personally about other mosquito borne infections. When in Malaysia I was told to not worry about malaria tablets if I was staying near the coast and in the Cook Islands recently they recommended people going into the mountains wear insect repellent when they were having a dengue like outbreak. This would explain why beach areas are low risk for heartworm Ohhh, okay thanks :) I wonder what he was talking about (the guy vet)? Maybe he meant the fox disease? I will have to ask him. Maybe he was talking about stuff like Parvo? -

Wanting to learn how to treat your dogs so they live a happy and healthy life is not, in my opinion, being a control freak. Having a mini break down because someone offers your dog a treat at the dog park (something I strongly disapprove of BTW LOL) would be. You are still grieving for Grover, but you could perhaps be a little kinder to yourself and stop beating yourself up about it :). Slowly and surely, you will get there Agree. There is nothing wrong with having these thoughts. It is totally normal. You should see the hysterics I have if I see the dogs eating something in a park because I lost a dog to bait. It wasn't even in a park. Like your experience with Grover I was there when my dog died and it wasn't pleasant. Not that any of the deaths have been. Even my 20yo cat passing in her sleep was horrible. One of the local postmen gives the dogs Good-o. Not something I would buy and not something Amber is supposed to eat but for some reason the dogs frigging love getting those Good-os. I give them homemade gourmet biscuits. They are also really naughty when they see the postman, they even pull on the leads But they love it and the postman loves it, so I relax my standards for this interaction. -
Poppy in Amber's coat which is a size down.
-
I went with the back size. The neck is very adjustable. The chest bit is pretty adjustable too. Amber was my skinny child and the chest bit is fine for her. Poppy can wear Amber's coat which is the size down. It doesn't look too tragic.

My first 2 border collies mainly ate supercoat & natures gift. They were always vaccinated. They both got to 15. My first cat only ate Whiskers cat food and passed away at 20! I feel like the more I have fussed the more stuff has gone wrong! -

Come to terms with the fact that animals can be fragile and may break your heart. I've lost 2 young pets in the last couple of years and have one that is terminal. Prior to that both my dogs lived to 15yo and never went to the vets. You can take all the precautions but sometimes things happen. -
It means do what they have to do until the animal is in a safe place.
-
I have breeders from 3 different breeds regularly on my FB page and they all do rally around when one of their breed is in need.
-
Why do you think breeders should rescue dogs they haven't bred? A friend's dog got ripped to pieces by a rescue dog btw, which has always put me off rescuing. Friend was a very good instructor too. So bad stuff can happen. I have hooked quite a few dogs up with new owners though.

Is day 3 when you know for sure you're onto a good thing? Just out of curiosity HW, how round you rate this food compared to the VIP grain free or the new Natures Gift semi moist? NG isn't new :) It has been around for years. I've never feed it a lot as it used to come in tiny bags. So couldn't give a long term assessment of it. The dogs all love it though.
-
Sometimes the owner of an animal wants nothing to do with the breeder ever again. Might be why some wouldn't call. Maybe some people don't realise they can call.
-
I only bred one litter and was offered one of that litter back. The person wanted me to pay the full price to get the dog back. I thought that was rather rude and declined. The dog had 2 litters by that stage and she was only 2yo(no complications) so I thought it was super greedy. The dog wasn't in any danger of going to a pound etc. She ended up in a lovely home and I got to meet her. I've always regretted not taking her back as she was my fav puppy but I was really pissed off. That put me off breeding. I think it is up to the owner to rehome their pet unless there are circumstances like the owner is really sick. The breeder should offer help though as they may know of people that want a older dog. I would expect a breeder to take a dog back if the owner was threatening to drop it off at the pound.

Has his pancreas been checked? Poo checked for parasites? The fact Metronidazole was working makes me think this isn't a food allergy. Antibiotics don't do much for allergies. Could also be IBD.
-
I've never used it. According to the instructions on the Pet Barn page you add some warm water to it.
-
Have you tried the K9 Natural food from Pet Barn? It is similarish to Ziwi in that it is freeze dried chunks. http://www.petbarn.com.au/dogs/dog-food-dry/dry-food/k9-natural-freeze-dried-lamb-feast-dog-food.html
-
We had a long thread on this food :) I found Poppy's teeth went a bit skanky and she lost coat shine. She is quite difficult to feed though.
-
Lots of passion and a thin skin. Like most of us about our dogs and our dog related hobbies I suppose. Vets All Natural have stayed pretty professional. And actually paid for advertising.
-
An allergy response will happen really quickly. That is a true allergy. Intolerance response is usually slower but I would expect to see a problem within days. If the food is just not good for the dogs (ie not enough oil for the coat) then that can take weeks.

Puppy 4 Leggs might be worth a go too. Not as big as Chunkers or normal 4 Leggs. If is sort of kibble sized chunks. Natures Gift is available in supermarkets but is a bit hard to find. -

Just blend her food up for her :) -
You gotta be joking  For the last 30 years the halter Arabian horse has got further & further away from the performance Arabian..... & now with more interest in the desert racing Arabian, the Arabian breed is changing again, a lot of breeders have turned away from the compact Crabbet type to breed a stretchy, taller type, more suitable for the racetrack & in particular the lucrative 40km desert races of the UAE. Are people saying that there is only one correct type and the others shouldn't exist? Yes the racing type is much taller, many individuals now are measured at 15.3hh & even 16 hands. While there is no standard height, commonly the Arabian horse stood between 14.1 - 15.1hh. The incidence of taller individuals is much higher these days. The French horses in particular look like Anglos (Thoroughbred x Arabian). Sorry, I didn't really address your question, but yes there is heated debate. :) There has never been just one type of Arabian.
