I was caught out once like this - with a VERY large bull terrier , who I was photographing ..luckily he was on a chain ..and I had room to step back as it lunged I just didn't read him correctly .. I knew I was in deep shit but had no where to go. I would much rather deal with a dog going off its head.

It was predatory stalking, and legs are a natural target as taking the leg out immobilises the prey. There isn't any sound on the video, but the silence is a bit of a give away, coupled with the intensity. It can be hard, though. Toby, my GSD, stalks other dogs when he sees them at a distance. At first it is hard to figure out what he's doing, but it quickly turns into calming or play signals (which most people miss, so I usually call him to me if we don't know them). The dog that attacked me and my dog acted in the same manner. It is very scary. There was no growling or snarling. No hackles up. Just trot across the road and bang.

That cat meant business! Cute how it runs back to the boy after. Can't quite work out why the adult didn't pick the boy up or stay with him.

I don't think there's a name. She bought it off eBay I think. Ivy loved wearing it, she was strutting around lol. She didn't like her cool coat when she was a puppy but the rain coat was absolutely fine. Sounding a bit like a sales person for Hurtta here but they do make a raincoat with legs like that. http://www.eurodogdesigns.com/Hurtta-Outdoor-Overalls_p_67.html

This! Well written DDD The OP wants a Border Collie and good on them! Great dogs, there WILL be one that suits their family and be a wonderful addition. Where's the "Like" button Well actually they are asking if we think it is the right breed for them. Therefore people are quite within their rights to say 'no'. It isn't like the OP has come on and said they are getting a BC and people are then saying no. There are some things in the OP post that make me go 'mmmm' enough that I wouldn't say a 100% yes.

I would recommend a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as a good dog for your family :)
-
Mine aren't super impressed but they only wear them when they are going for a walk and that trumps having to wear the coat!!
-
Not really sure what you mean? They don't have front leg holes. Poppy is pretty chunky, she weighs 22-25kgs

I remember when this was first reported. I really like that they trusted their dog in the first place.
-
Yeah I started with these. They are nice but were too warm for walking the border collies in. Similar pattern.

Poppy modeling her Hurtta raincoat!

I had 3 girls and 1 boy at one stage. I had no issues. I've got 2 girls now with no issues. But in 25 years of having the dogs I haven't had one fight.

Do you have a Horseland near you? Or a Petstock? I would go try them on. I found them to be a bit weird in size.
-
I went off actual measurements. The site I got them through has a demo video on how to measure and put on. http://www.eurodogdesigns.com/Hurtta-Rain-Coat_p_36.html Out of interest I just put Amber's coat on Poppy and vise versa and both coats were ok on the other dog so they do adjust pretty well.

Yes! That's what i'm looking at. This one? Hurtta Raincoat I have 2 of these :) Very happy with them. They move really well with the dogs, as in when the dogs are off lead running flat out. In pissing down rain they look pretty soggy but the dogs are staying dry under them. The dogs are also not getting hot in them, which was the problem I was having with rugs with fill. How do you find the sizing? Good. I went mainly off the back length measurement. They are pretty adjustable around the belly, Amber is a skinny thing and I can get it tight enough on her. Amber is in a 50 and Poppy a 55. The neck adjusts too.

I got my dog coats from a US company...... US horsey people certainly rug too, but they call them blankets. A non dog friend laughed here when I said I had rain coats for the dogs. Then we went for a walk in the rain and she saw how soggy they got and said she knew why I had the coats.

The problem with an unlined rug is that they can prevent the animal's own hair acting as insulation due to squashing the hair flat. The hair normally puffs out a bit trapping warm air next to the skin. This can make the animal colder with the rug on. I would also be looking at a coat with buckles not velcro if I was planning on leaving it on.

I've had 2 border collies get out on their first seasons. The gaps they have squeezed out of have been amazing! The first one I lost over night. I was devastated. I was lucky that both were not pregnant. For all my girls that very first season has been the one were they have gone really nutso. Amber didn't try and escape (she never has) but had a full on phantom complete with milk production. There is a lot to be said for desexing prior to the first season!

Great news. Can you please share where you managed to buy the RHCV for $65? I can't find it under $87 plus postage at the moment. Do you have a chemists warehouse near you? The human version is often on special there.

I use Epi-optic but don't squirt it down the ears. I use a make-up remover pad like Erny does. -
"proper" Dog Friendly Retreat Type Accomodation In Victoria
JulesP replied to osusoy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've stayed in a couple of places belonging to this company. http://www.oceanbluecoastalretreats.com.au/ They have quite a few places that are dog friendly. Dogs are allowed inside but not on furniture, which is fine with me as I don't do dogs on furniture. Thanks for the 'heads up' JulesP. Gosh some of those places look just lovely & within reasonable to the in-laws. I like the one in Rye, Shear water cottage, perfect !! Thanks again. Appreciate it :) I stayed in the Shellcroft, which is part of that group of cottages. It had a small courtyard but was well fenced. Walking distance to a great beach which is off lead in winter. -

I got some Hurttas. Happy with them so far. Heaps of people are stopping to ask me about them too. Most places around me see to charge the same prices as Petbarn so I was happy with my 20% off :)
