was just thinking about Don Burke. I remember him having a story on cross breds on his show. It must have been over 10 years ago now. Anyway one of the things he was spruiking was maltese X Shih Tzu's and how great they were. Now these MalteseXShih Tzu's must be one of the most popular dogs in Australia, they are everywhere!

I think there is nothing wrong with advertising in the TP. But i would have thought you would get a lot more tyre kickers, generally bizarre people, people who dont know the breed etc etc ringing up. I'd actually like to know how the TP ads compare to the ads here on DOL, in terms of the people they attract. I think the DOL ads would attract more serious, educated buyers but I guess that would not always be the case.

You know the ballpark figure for a BB on limited register is $2K to $3K. My major concern would be whether you could establish a good rappport with the breeder and getting a healthy puppy from Health tested parents with some kind of health guarantee, not the price.

my friend got one from a prominent WA breeder, just a pet on limited register and it was $3k, thats about the norm And I also think its appropriate NOT to list a price, you are not shoppping for some inanimate object

I havent read the womans day articles. But ive heard him recommend Standard Poodles and say that there is nothing effeminant about them and i really liked this.

I can see why you would keep the papers until the dog was desexed. But to me the papers are part of the purchase price. Otherwise you are effectively spending X amount of dollars on a dog of unknown parentage, that doesnt technically belong to you. I would like to know the rules on this actually. Isn't there something in the code of ethics that says all puppies from registered breeders must be registered and buyers supplied with a copy of the pedigree. I recall reading something similar although that might be an exaggeration of a rule. Or is that a rule in another state?

As Amy said. But I dont think it is very ethical for the breeder to hold onto the papers until you have her sterilised. After all they are only limited registration papers, you couldnt register a litter from her anyway so i dont understand why they are holding the papers. They should just give you the papers after you purchase the dog and then give you a rebate when the dog is desexed if they want to encourage you to have her desexed.

Just thought i'd ask your opinion on something. I was talking to a breeder the other day. And he said what he does is offer more money for pick of the litter. Like say your dogs are being sold for $1000 each, he will offer the breeder $2000 for the pick of the litter. Does this happen very often? And what I was wondering is how you guys would react in such a situation. Would you take any offense to such an offer? He also tries to buy older dogs that have already done some winning to increase his chances of success at shows. Not that this is bad thing, i just find it interesting that there seems to be a bit of wheeling and dealing going on.

There is a woman who lives just up the road from me who has a dane. Think she said it was 100kg and 103 or 4 cm at the withers. She has been on today tonight and in womans weekly.

would you stop bagging the small dog owners please! And stop it with the running and squealing. This is not a common response from a fearful dog in comparison to say standing there yapping.

would you please stop saying ran and squeal. Because this is generally not what a nervous or intimidated dog does when confronted by another dog. The dog will either cower with fear, get in a submissive position or growl or snap or bark or lunge. And I also dont think its acceptable to let your dog join in with the 'pack' and have a go at a fearful dog.
