Sometimes I Really Like This Odd Black Dog :)
persephone replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
Look at all the love for you in his eyes! I wish I had a camera when I first woke up this morning. Hot morning breath woke me before the alarm. I opened my eyes to see my heart girl Stussy had not only burrowed her way under the doona but she was lying side by side with me, face to face, with her head on my pillow, fast asleep. Usually she burrows in, fully submerged under the blankets and lies at right angles so she can kick me in the belly. How can I not love her! awww.... :) -
if she respkinds to teh texture of fabric - maybe put some of these down ? Washable - hold HEAPS of pee .. and don't look an obvious dog toilet when indoors ;)

misss maddie , how Do you do ? :D

It seems as if she was never housetrained . perhaps start all over again ?
-
I would think she is stressed pretty badly ..staying awake ..and so not shutting down the system as normal. perhaps get her back to basics .. and get up during the night to toilet her . Has she spent time in her crate before last night? being in kennels is absolutely no guarantee that she was comfortable in there- or was taught housetraining. many dogs are worse when confined

I just get them at our little country IGA ...down the back with chicken necks & bones & pet meat ..... ( in S.A )
-
the vet who's looking after the dog would know ..... and perhaps a change of meds would be able to do the same job without the side effect ... hope you can work something out ..

So sorry, PD - but he is now free from all that a failing body brings with it ...

Grooming Table For Difficult Cocker Spaniel
persephone replied to jnh's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
remember how you described the dog ? ..don't forget muzzles can be useful , and not as stressful as tight leashes/slippery tables/nervous handlers.. A nice basket or jafco one which allows him to puff out his anxiety but not bite :) Are you doing him at home because he has been scared/aggressive at a groomers ? I think the more restrictions- the more fearful and snappy he will become, poor thing perhaps sedation/clipping at a groomer/vet would help - then, at home , lying on your lap/couch... as a treat filled, SHORT duration experience, repeated often , he could be played with /brushed easily on the short un tangled coat ......teaching you BOTH that it can be a relaxing thing ..... and as coat grows- hopefully confidence and acceptance grow with it. sniff brush= treat allow brush to travel over back once = treat allow brush over back twice =treat etc etc .... -
Nothing much else to say, san & paul - :) you might enjoy reading this - lots of ideas ! CLICK HERE and Click here Click HERE for a somewhat technical, but thorough and useful guide to dog behaviour , how their bodies /senses work . Understanding some of this helps explain why pups/dogs are doing things like growling/ chewing/ scent marking .....etc

this looks interesting - and for the price , maybe worth a try? ROGUE SAFARI Up to 8x More Light No Batteries Required Optically Engineered Lens Concentrates Light Optimized for Lenses Over 100mm Mounts to DSLR Hot Shoe Molded from rugged polycarbonate materials Rogue Safari focuses the light from a DSLR's pop-up flash to greatly increase the available flash power at extended distances. Safari is designed to work with crop-sensor (APS-C/DX) Canon and Nikon DSLRs. While the Rogue Safari Pop-up Flash Booster is compatible with the vast majority of modern DSLRs, some early model cameras, including the Canon 10D, 20D and 30D will not accommodate the adapter.

Like any dog - there are variances in individual temperaments :) They are ori=ginally bred to be determined and strong and to nip at the heels of cattle , regardless of hooves, dirt, horns from birth to age 4 a cattledog called Plonk was my 'nanny' in the bush. he wasn't indoors , but I spent a lot of time outdoors, and he guarded me from snakes, other dogs, and grandparent I remember him as being very patient and bombproof - and a great snake killer! neighbours here bought one many years ago, as a guard dog ....FAIL . he was the most loveable and tolerant of dogs - entire male - not treated terrible well - but useless as a watch dog - and fantastic with the toddler grandkids . he did , one day kill one of the tiny silkies who had taunted him for years ...one day there was no one to intervene That was not held against him , thankfully ... I have been bailed up by ACDs in the city - as said , mis handling , and not supplying them with what they need can cause many problems . and yes- I am VERY cautious around them .
