  1. driving with ..... well- driving a few hundred metres from here to there , and back again ;)
  2. I'm not you - but if I want a holiday - it's no dogs .
  3. Your friend needs to be started on this journey by a qualified trainer who can SHOW her what she needs to do. A few one on one lessons from a decent trainer would be a good start. She has months of learned behaviours to undo. All the good will in the world will not be enough for a novice handler to conquer that. yes. Your friend sounds as if she really wants to do it alone - but it's like repairing a car/computer , etc . Without a professional showing you what goes where- and how they connect - there could be some interesting and dangerous things happen in the operation! Please encourage her to use the professional's knowledge to teach her the skills needed. Then she & pup can continue the journey :)
  4. .. :) it will take me a few more days before I stop getting out of bed carefully so as not to disturb the big lump in one corner .....and last night I saved the steak offcuts ..... early days :)
  5. I saw thejolly balls on ebay ..very similar - but what I liked about these tuggo ones is that water can be added to change teh weight ....
  6. Which makes me wonder what is missing if this pup is still lunging and pulling with the owner after attending training and having a behaviourist consult ... Hope they can get it sorted soon. If the dog is just untrained she doesn't need a behaviourist, she needs a trainer. If she's attending group training sessions she's not getting the drift and is just confusing and frustrating herself and her dog. It would be best for her to stop the group training sessions immediately and find a competent trainer to work one on one with her and the dog. Pers, as you know her perhaps post the general area of where she lives and maybe someone can recommend a good trainer. I don't know her ??? well, I don't think I do ....

  8. Not really The handler's knowledge of the dog's body language , and how to react will teach the dog 'manners'....whether on a strong flat collar , or something else. I . M . O - if you don't know WHY your dog is doing what it's doing ..and what to replace it with ....AND how to communicate this to your dog ... no beneficial teaching /training will happen .
  9. From what was posted , NO way would I suggest any sort of headcollar , without it being part of a training program ...and , if a trainer and a behaviourist have worked with this dog - what were their recommendations for training equipment ? They have SEEN the dog and how it is handled , so , ideally , they are better placed to suggest and TRAIN WITH equipment which best suits the situation.
  10. I really think they need to ask a different trainer for some help
  11. ..with cats - the new ones always have to be immediate - Years ago, in melbourne , My dear Rufus was magicked to be on the same day I lost "Scratch" ( to a half brick thrown by a neighbour) I was distraught , and went straight out to the Cat Protection Society ..lots of pens, lots of cats .. one or two gingers .. none of them triggered any feeling By this time I was crying again ...and asked the lady was she sure there wasn't one I'd missed ? Somewhere? Another lady explained there was one adult who had just come in - castrated yesterday ..has been living under a car ... anyhow - Rufus the Red came straight home with me ..straight into the shower as he smelt and looked disgusting ..and was my special boy thru several house moves ...with other cats , and alone ...for years & years . My Tabby girl was left with me to have a home found .... well, she was def. a foster failure :p ..... I have a few stories like that ...there was Jerome - given us by a couple who believed very much in the benefits of 'weed' ..and , judging by Jerome's attitude.. smoked it often ;) there was Monty - 'rescued' amongst tears from a fodder store who had a couple of scrawny pups in a cage - plus a mushroom and white fluffy kitten trying to eat dog food from a bowl ... I just can not be away from cats for too long , & am so looking forward to a new little girl :)

  13. thank you - I so hate the catless feeling Every other time there has been a catshaped hole torn in my heart , I have immediately filled it - this time , it may be different - or then again..... there is this moppet available not all that far away ... (have posted in cat chat ) ..but will put this here - sure Dougie won't mind :)
