crate TRAINING is just that ..taking time to get a pup used to going in, then staying in a crate. It is NOT intended to physically stop a puppy toileting inappropriately indoors...and it is not at all kind or fair to leave a pup crated until it HAS to soil its bed area Crate training will mean initially more work for you ..as YOU will be the one letting him out for toilet ...YOU will be timing his crate time, teaching him about crates, and toilet training him by taking him outside every hour or so , unless you are happy for him to toilet indoors on paper always think hard about this ..you have a baby puppy ..and whatever he learns now will be with him all his life :)

I have only ever fed pup food when I'm weaning pups..and the bitch gets what's left ..or as an ad lib thing for a week or so at that time ... just a normal good diet, with plenty of edible bone ..and increase if .when needed.

two pups /different owners ..... this may be an interesting time for you household!!! Make sure you are both co ordinated with housetraining, rules on nipping/barking/feeding . A few points ....in case you hadn't thought this far ahead :) baskets are great as chew toys nice expensive bedding is a lovely texture to chew playtime on slippery floors with two sets of legs may lead to injuries .... two pups doing zoomies inside .....well.............. tug -o-war with clothing /cushions/leashes /electrical cords is MUCH more interesting with two :p puppies Loove cardboard boxes, toilet rolls and small empty soft drink bottles (with loose bits removed) outside is a great place to be . sprinklers/plants/trellising/mats are also terrific toys! two pups playing make GREAT photos!! Puppy pre school and further training classes are a great idea for both owners and pups.

When breeding dogs to obtain pups for Guide Dog work ..soundness of body AND temperament were paramount ( back in my day ...) With our working sheepdogs temperament is vital ... and is selected for when choosing parents for a prospective litter . I think the point is that , yes, puppies can inherit temperamental traits from parents . No question . BUT .. with training and socialisation a pup can become what its owners need. The nurture part may also cover over temperamental faults ....the 'problem' is still there , albeit now smoothed over and relegated to the deep , so to speak .

If a sire has a 'really bad temperament' In what way ? is the dog aggressive, or noisy, or pushy? What were HIS parents like? Was he born like it ? the breeder should know . As a general rule, I will not knowingly take on a pup from parents who have aggression/fear issues.

:) Great idea..doing your research .. These questions may help you decide .... is a daily walk possible? Can you do daily training sessions (short)? Will dog be sleeping indoors? Are you renting? Do you have secure fences? Are there dogs next door? Are you willing to pay to have your dog professionally groomed every 6 weeks? Any allergies?

Benny is not a puppy any more :) What is his body language when he barks ? Is it one or two barks ..or continuous? Sounds as if he would benefit from a few more guidelines ..like what you will find in THIS LINK

Ok.. what if .... you blend lamb muscle meat plus some canned food? Also .. make up some chicken soup .. chicken meat/offal/some veg/rice ..and let it simmer until some liquid is gone . blend this with any other meat he has . he may also benefit muchly from lactose free milk & egg = eggflips ! Flavour with some melted bacon fat as you blend :) Eggflips can also have sardine blended in ... my old cats love it

..if AB's sorted it , then it seems to be a bacterial invasion of some sort , perhaps invading an area inflamed by allergy ..perhaps not .. I hope it settles soon .

Some dogs are born with fear/nervousness , or boldness/aggression issues. perhaps these things are why the dog was in a pound/rescue ? perhaps not. I do agree with a lot of observed behaviour being nature and not nurture . I like to know a bit about a 2nd hand car I buy , or a pre owned dog, or a pre owned gadget :) Doesn't mean I make excuses, just means that I then can learn what may have happened , and adapt my management style to what I have .
